"She hit me first!" Shirley Ewing said with a pout. "She threw the first punch. If I didn’t fight back, wouldn’t I be a disgrace to everyone from Hundale?"

Vera Xavier was left speechless, but she found Shirley Ewing’s logic rather endearing.

Vera Xavier just smiled, feeling completely calm inside.

Half an hour later, Ms. Bell came upstairs and called everyone from Vera Xavier’s room to come downstairs.

The dean of students was waiting downstairs, scowling. As soon as he saw Vera Xavier and the others, he said grimly, "Follow me."
