Chapter 824: Chapter 814: Du Qiang’s Recovery
Tang Nan is just the classic case of sour grapes, though it might be the stench of their relationship that gets to her.
After all, being single for a long time isn’t scary, what’s scary is having people flaunting their love beside you. A little love drama isn’t unbearable, but being force-fed it isn’t pleasant.
The landlady is invincible, impenetrable, unwavering, self-sufficient, able to live comfortably on study materials alone.
Divorced for years, she’s now a well-read woman with countless files on her hard drive. In ancient times, she would have belonged to a literary family. Even without a man, she’s living better than when she had one, so of course she doesn’t care about his and Shen Yi’s bit of experience.
Su Qing even suspects that, combined, he and Shen Yi may not have as rich a spiritual world as hers, but Tang Nan is different. She’s sensitive after all her ups and downs in the entertainment industry, having seen all kinds of things with no child to take up her energy.
"Hey, there he is! Haven’t seen you in nearly two months, really had the nerve to leave? You haven’t forgotten you’re still our investigation consultant, have you?"
In the office, Zhao Minghui laughed while reproaching him.
If he were an ordinary investigation consultant, he would’ve had someone call and bring him back to work long ago. But Su Qing, born in the 2000s, he wouldn’t dare.
Although they still pay him a salary over there, does he really need that money? Heaven forbid this youngster quits and never comes back, that wouldn’t be good.
As much as it pains him to admit, Zhao Minghui knows sometimes Su Qing truly provides considerable help to their police station, which he saw clearly last year.
Nowadays, it’s not Su Qing relying on them for a living, but rather they need him as a countermeasure sometimes; after all, talent is invaluable in any industry.
"Come on, as if I’d do that. I was just off tending to my personal marriage matters, gotta give young folks some time, right?" Su Qing sat back on the chair, smiling as he replied.
Tang Nan was off experiencing detective life, so naturally she wouldn’t be lounging in Zhao Minghui’s office, besides being a public figure; she didn’t expect the detective captain to accompany her daily.
Though their fame and finances differ vastly, their social status isn’t weak by any means. On the surface level, who would seriously compare a celebrity like Tang Nan with a cop, except her rabid fans?
They’re in completely different circles, where paths don’t cross unless Tang Nan ends up in legal trouble in Jiang City, then they may have some connections.
Given how many celebrities end up sewing in a jail cell, a regular person might hold Tang Nan’s star status in esteem, but people like Zhao Minghui see only two types: law-abiding citizens, and those worth cuffing.
"Really? You’ve actually found someone? Getting married? Hold up... Don’t tell me your significant other is..."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Minghui was shocked, his face lit up with joy then quickly turned to doubt, as he mistook Tang Nan for Su Qing’s partner.
After all, Su Qing’s online antics are well-known; how could he not know? Even if he didn’t care, officers in the station would discuss it, with Su Qing’s notoriety, hard to miss.
With movie investments, knowing a few actors would be no surprise.
Su Qing immediately gestured in understanding, "No, no, we’re just friends. Plus, I’ve invested a bit in her project; considered a minor investment. She hasn’t decided where to film yet, so I thought some extra promotion for our station wouldn’t hurt."
Zhao Minghui was skeptical, "You sure?"
"Absolutely sure!"
"That’s a shame! If you’d managed that, our station’s future promotional work would be sorted! No doubt a major star boosts promotional efforts considerably!" Zhao Minghui sighed.
Without Su Qing’s introduction, their department couldn’t afford to hire a celebrity like Tang Nan for promotions, even a basic commercial performance would cost hundreds of thousands, beyond their budget.
Su Qing gave old Zhao a look, "You really like the idea, huh? Getting addicted to freebies there?"
"Hey, with your connections, of course it would be silly not to use them!"
Su Qing waved his hand with a smile, "Alright, discuss the promotional work amongst yourselves, I’m staying out of it. By the way, any major cases in recent times?"
Upon hearing this, Zhao Minghui rolled his eyes, "What do you think? Jiang City is huge, a first-tier city crowded with people, how could there be no cases? We’ve dealt with two murder cases already, just within our jurisdiction, not counting other branches!"
This caught Su Qing off guard; was it really this brutal?
"So we..."
"Of course, they’ve been solved, don’t tell me you really think without you we’d be helpless?" Zhao Minghui said proudly.
Suddenly shy, Su Qing blushed, realizing the narrator’s influence gave him a bit of an ego.
Upon learning more, he found out the basic details of the cases: one a crime of passion, a man cheated post-marriage wanting divorce to gain property, conspiring with his mistress to kill his spouse. Their hurried crime soon revealed flaws and got solved.
The other case was simpler; a job agent arranged factory work, took commission, then refused paying the worker’s son, and got killed. The perpetrator was quickly identified, only arrest remained.
Movies are movies; reality is reality. High-intelligence crimes exist, but not as many. Most difficult cases stem from datedness and lack of evidence, rarely a chain of convoluted calculations like in films.
Mid-conversation, the office door suddenly swung open.
"Su Qing!"
"Du Qiang? You’re better?"
Looking at Du Qiang at the door, Su Qing froze momentarily, then immediately checked his leg.
"Haha, you’re back finally! Don’t worry, my body’s as strong as iron, no sweat taking you on ten-to-one!" Du Qiang jumped twice, then playfully patted his back.
"Ouch~~ easy on that, too heavy-handed, glad you’re okay!" Su Qing, sharing the cheer, since Du Qiang was bedridden when he left.
"Watch it, you’re just recovered, don’t overdo it!" Zhao Minghui, ever-teacher, cautioned nearby.
"No worries master, I’m fine, fit for duty and capture activity anytime, Su Qing’s back, I need to talk with him, I’ll go then!"
"Get lost already, you jumping bean!"
Just as he finished, Du Qiang grabbed him by the arm and dragged him out, simultaneously a narrator chimed in Su Qing’s mind.
[Du Qiang, just out of hospital three days, injuries healed, hearing about Tang Nan filming a crime-drama series locally, considered guest appearance, tempted by fame none can resist]
Su Qing’s eyes widened at this—a detective wanting to act? What kind of character was this?
