Chapter 2340: Understanding (2)
Culture King said nothing about that. Instead, he looked at Return again and raised his brow, "Do you think this is a bait? Or is he really looking for us?"
"What business would this guy have with us?" Martial King said with disdain, "This guy didn't even have much fame before this. For him to suddenly step forth, this is clearly a trap. Maybe this guy was sent by that bastard."
Culture King smiled. That wasn't necessarily the case. He contemplated the matter and considered numerous factors before suddenly vanishing with a flicker.
Return, who was still carefully calling out, suddenly found his vision blurring. When it recovered...his heart thumped violently. This might be a clone, but the clone of a tier-one was by no means weak.
Yet his clone had been dragged off before he could even sense anything. How terrifying. Just as he was about to say something, an ethereal figure clad in white robes appeared before him. And next, reality itself warped around Return as he found himself appearing inside an elegant courtyard.
A towering tree stood in the middle of the courtyard. A stone table appeared underneath it, followed by stone chairs.
"Sit."
Culture King smiled before sitting down. A cup of tea appeared in Return's hand. Meanwhile, Return was paling with fright.
Too strong.
Even when he was only here as a clone, he couldn't stay calm. He licked his lips nervously and asked, "I wouldn't dare...May I ask if...this is Lord Culture King?"
"You're many years my senior. How can I be your lord?" After taking a sip of his tea, Culture King asked, "Are you looking for me?"
"Yes...no..."
Return was growing nervous as he hurriedly said, "Lord...don't misunderstand...I'm here looking for you on someone's request..."
"Oh?" Culture King laughed, "Inside or outside the gate?"
Return grew even more alarmed. How did he know that it was someone outside the gate? It should be almost impossible for those outside to contact those inside.
Right at that moment, a burly man appeared beside Culture King. He said with impatience, "Just catch his main body and extract his memories. Why are you going through all this trouble?"
"Silence!"
Culture King berated Martial King before flashing his smile at Return, "Please continue, Senior."
Return's heart was beating rapidly. He talked big in front of Su Yu, but he couldn't stop feeling nervous when he was actually standing before these two. He was a tier-one. He was very strong.
But the two before him were supreme powerhouses who had fought a forbidden land for countless years without dying. Over the years, Eternal Life Mountain had even lost some tier-ones to them.
Apart from the overlord, every member of the Eternal Life Mountain would be in grave danger upon encountering the two.
Return did not dare to make them wait as he hurriedly answered, "O-ou-outside..."
Martial King glared at Return, but Culture King stopped him with a gesture. Then, he asked with a smile, "And what business does this person have with me?"
Return was surprised by this reaction. Was Culture King pretending to be calm, or was he really so indifferent to this? Shouldn't he be surprised to hear that it was someone outside?
He wasn't even asking for the identity of that person.
Return guessed that Culture King was pretending to be calm, but he didn't dare to slight Culture King. He carefully said, "It-it's the tenth human lord. He's looking for you. The tenth human lord is the tenth master of humanity after Human Emperor."
"I know that." Culture King said, "There is no need to explain all that to me. Just tell me what he wants."
At this, Return started hesitating. He was scared that the two would beat him to death the moment they heard his demand. He grew even more nervous. He was starting to regret not asking for a token of identity from Su Yu. Then again, it would be too hard to send anything through the gate.
"He...he wishes..."
Return hesitated. How was he supposed to say it?
Su Yu was asking for all the treasures Culture King had gathered from killing so many Masters of Laws over the years. He was asking for all the law fragments and dao powers. The more Return thought about it, the more nervous he became.
Just then, Martial King's cold voice rang out, "You're being all hesitant and suspicious. Are you courting death?"
Next, a ferocious aura descended upon him, causing him to suffocate.
With a wave of Culture King's hand, the ferocious aura faded. He smiled and said, "Tai Shan, stop messing around. Why are you scaring the senior?"
Scaring the senior...
Return did not dare to say anything about that. He said, "Y-you see, that...that fellow...w-wishes to..."
Culture King laughed and asked again, "Just say it. What is it? Is he asking for something? Some questions for me? Or is he telling you to scold us on his behalf or something?"
Return's expression changed.
All three...were accurate. Su Yu was indeed asking for something. He also had some questions, and he also wanted to scold Martial King.
Culture King...Su Yu...
Countless thoughts emerged in Return's mind. His fear intensified as he hurriedly said, "He is asking for all the dao powers and law fragments you have accumulated over the years. He wishes to strengthen his subordinates with them..."
Culture King asked, "Are you his contractor within the Heaven Gate?"
Return's eyes flickered as he answered, "Yes...but you know this as well, Lord Culture King. When I sever my connection with him, his Heaven Gate projection will also vanish from its current location. Therefore, you shouldn't—"
Culture King said, "Don't worry. I'm not interested in doing something like that. I'm also too busy for that. This isn't a good idea anyway, as it might risk the discovery of that bastard from the Eternal Life Mountain. He still can't open the real Heaven Gate, but what about a projection? If he manages to send his power out, the Myriad Realms will be in trouble. It's fine for you to be the contractor. You're not too conspicuous, unlike me."
Return sighed with relief. That was his thought as well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to come here.
To the side, Martial King's eyes lit up. Heaven Gate...projection...contractor!
Who?
Was it the same kid from before?
Wait, something wasn't right. That kid was still very weak not long ago. He wasn't at the level where he could already contract someone inside the gate. The guy before them might be weak, but this was still a tier-one.
Was it someone else? Martial King couldn't be sure, but he was also too lazy to guess. As far as he was concerned, the key to living a long life was to avoid using his brain whenever possible.
Culture King sank into thought. After a short while, he smiled, "Sure."
What was that again?
When Return was still doubting his ears, Culture King waved his hand and sent a ball of light over. "For him. Of course, I have a seal on it. Don't even think of opening it yourself. If you wish to be paid for this, ask for it from him. I have nothing to offer for now."
Return was dumbstruck. He couldn't resist asking, "Lord Culture King...do you know Su Yu?"
"Nope."
Culture King laughed, "Do I need to know him?"
"..."
What was he saying?
Return was stunned. Why did he agree so easily if it was a stranger? And he wasn't even asking more about it. It almost felt like Culture King was a fool here. He had agreed to hand over all those treasures just because someone had asked for it.
Yes, law fragments and dao powers weren't too useful for people like them. However, these were absolute treasures for those who were not Masters of Laws. However, it wasn't like law fragments and dao powers were completely useless for them either.
And now, Culture King had handed them all over without much hesitation just because someone was asking for it. Return started doubting life itself. He was completely dumbfounded. Just what was wrong with Culture King and Su Yu?
One was absolutely confident Culture King would agree, and the other had truly agreed.
Return did not feel happy at the completion of his task. Rather, he felt a chill creep up his spine. An intense sense of danger was rising within him. He did not know if Culture King or Su Yu was the trigger for this sensation.
The two had reached an agreement through a remote interaction; no, there wasn't even an interaction between the two.
Return was sure that Su Yu had no way of contacting Culture King. He would have done so himself otherwise. What was the point of getting an intermediary for it? The same also applied to Culture King. He had no way of contacting Su Yu, or he would have contacted Su Yu himself.
There was no connection between the two. Yet there was this odd understanding between the two. One had agreed to the request of the other even when a third party was the one here with the message.
Return stared at the ball of light in his hand. It had been sealed by Culture King, so he didn't dare to do anything to it. He didn't know how much power it contained, but he knew the amount was definitely high. That surging power contained within could be felt even through the seal.
Perhaps...even tier-one daos could be found inside.
At that thought, Return's breathing intensified. Was that the case? Possibly. After all, Culture King had killed tier-ones before.
Return grew even more anxious as he asked, "Lord...are you not worried about...me running with this thing?"
Culture King smiled, "Not at all. I trust you."
But that merely sent another chill up Return's spine.
Bullshit!
They didn't even know each other. Yes, Return knew that Culture King existed, but this was their first interaction. How was there supposed to be any trust between them? The more friendly Culture King was, the more anxious Return became.
Culture King asked with the same smile on his face, "Do you have any other business with me?"
"...Yes." Return inhaled deeply and said, "Su Yu...asked...for the location of your lair."
"Starfall Mountain. Where else could it be?"
Suddenly, Martial King interrupted, "You're a Heaven Gate contractor. In that case--"
Culture King cut him off and gave Return a long stare with the same smile on his face. After a long while, he said, "I have a question. Do you know about the current situation of Human Emperor?"
"Human Emperor?" Return hesitated slightly and said. "I heard that...he's still fighting the myriad races."
He was unsure. Culture King thought about it again. His lair. Was Su Yu asking about his world? Previously, Su Yu had asked if he had created a world.
As for the so-called lair at the Starfall Mountain, Su Yu was definitely aware of that. He wouldn't have come into possession of some things without being aware of that lair, in particular.
Was Human Emperor fine? It wasn't an issue if he was fine, but if he wasn't fine...Culture King was quite terrified of what Human Emperor would do after learning about the location of his world.
But it was hard for him to determine Human Emperor's current condition. Had Su Yu gotten in contact with Human Emperor? Unlikely, right? It had been too soon. Su Yu shouldn't have grown to that level so soon.
But since he had contracted a tier-one like Return, his Heaven Gate had clearly grown considerably. And his strength would have grown as well. More importantly, he was somehow able to make Return do his bidding. Culture King was actually quite surprised about that. That fellow was truly quite capable.
