Chapter 1031: Chapter 1031: Absolute Hottest Topic Among The Students

The exact moment his figure appeared, many of the surrounding students unconsciously straightened their backs and held their breath. After all, Yan Linkai was one of the school’s most famous and universally respected disciples.

"The tower reflects how much you have improved since your last visit." Yan Linkai calmly explained, his deep voice cutting through the silence of the plaza.

Bai Xifeng blinked in surprise. "I see..." She nodded several times in sudden understanding.

When she took a moment to think about it carefully, she had indeed improved tremendously since the beginning of her brutal sparring sessions with Ji Yuan. Whether it was her combat awareness, her instantaneous reaction speed, her tactical rune usage, or her overall fighting ability, she was simply no longer the same person she had been before entering the pagoda.

The surrounding students all looked at Yan Linkai in utter surprise. No one had expected someone of his stature to personally step forward and answer a freshman’s question.

To them, Yan Linkai was almost like an unapproachable being from a completely different world. He was powerful, aloof, and rarely, if ever, interacted with ordinary students.

Most of the time, he focused his entire existence on solo cultivation and intense training. Yet now, he had voluntarily started a conversation with Bai Xifeng. That fact alone was shocking enough.

"Are you going to participate in the upcoming competition?" Yan Linkai asked, looking her dead in the eye.

"Hmm... I am." Bai Xifeng answered honestly, meeting his gaze without flinching.

"Good." Yan Linkai nodded slightly, a flicker of genuine interest crossing his features. "I hope we encounter each other during the tournament brackets. I would highly like to have a match with you."

The surrounding students immediately sucked in a sharp breath. Yan Linkai actually wanted to fight Bai Xifeng? That invitation was practically a public, high-level acknowledgement of her formidable strength.

Bai Xifeng, however, did not seem nearly as excited or intimidated as everyone else in the plaza.

"Well, if you are lucky." Bai Xifeng replied casually, shrugging her shoulders.

The corners of Yan Linkai’s lips twitched slightly at her blatant lack of deference.

Meanwhile, the surrounding students looked as though they had just witnessed something completely unbelievable. One person was the undisputed number one disciple on the ranking board. The other was a freak-of-nature freshman who had somehow reached the 888th floor of the Cultivation Pagoda in a short time. And now, the two of them were openly discussing throwing hands in the upcoming competition.

For some reason, the collective anticipation buzzing in the air spiked to an all-time high, and everyone in the plaza suddenly became even more incredibly excited for the tournament to finally begin.

However, the highly charged, dramatic atmosphere was abruptly and ruthlessly interrupted by a deeply unexpected sound.

Grrrrrr...

It was the loud, completely unmistakable sound of an aggressively growling stomach echoing through the quiet space.

Everyone in the immediate vicinity turned their heads, their wide eyes landing squarely on the source of the sudden noise.

"I am hungry. I desperately need to fill my stomach right now." Bai Xifeng announced, rubbing her midriff without showing the slightest hint of embarrassment or shame after everyone heard the sound.

As if that blatant lack of care was not already enough to stun the crowd, she casually reached into her storage rune, pulled out a fluffy steamed bun, and began munching on it happily right in front of everyone’s judging eyes.

The surrounding crowd was left completely, utterly speechless. Did this girl not have any sense of public shame at all?

Just mere moments ago, she had utterly shocked the entire school administration and student body by reaching the legendary 888th floor of the Cultivation Pagoda. Now, she was just standing there in her tattered clothes, eating a cheap steamed bun as though absolutely nothing extraordinary had happened today.

Bai Xifeng completely ignored their intense stares and turned her attention back toward Cui Bojing.

"Senior Brother Cui, I will definitely come back again tomorrow." Bai Xifeng stated in between bites.

"Tomorrow?" Cui Bojing blinked in surprise, his mind struggling to keep up.

"Yeah." Bai Xifeng nodded, taking another massive bite of her steamed bun. "I still need to go back in there and completely beat up that invisible bastard who put me in this miserable state to begin with."

"Oh... Yeah. Good luck with that." Cui Bojing could only manage that simple, dazed response.

After all, it was glaringly obvious that the mysterious enemy inside the trial had successfully managed to chase her all the way out of the Cultivation Pagoda.

Meanwhile, Yan Linkai silently watched Bai Xifeng’s retreating figure as she walked away. He found himself wondering with deep curiosity what exactly had happened to her inside the hidden depths of the Cultivation Pagoda. Her uniform was completely torn in several prominent places, and there were unmistakable traces of dried crimson blood staining her clothes and pale skin.

It was glaringly obvious that she had been engaged in a fierce, life-or-death battle shortly before her allotted time inside the pagoda ended. Yet, despite her gruesome-looking injuries, she still seemed entirely energetic enough to publicly complain about being hungry.

The more Yan Linkai silently observed her unpredictable nature, the more interesting she became to him.

Before long, the fascinating public interaction between the legendary Yan Linkai and the freshman anomaly Bai Xifeng became the absolute hottest topic among the students. Heated groups quickly gathered across the campus courtyards to discuss the high probability of the two facing each other during the upcoming tournament brackets. Some students became so wildly excited about the prospect that they even started an informal, large-scale betting pool right then and there.
