Chapter 1877: Han Yan Activates Taunt Mode

Chapter 1877: Chapter 1877: Han Yan Activates Taunt Mode

"In this case, we don’t need to worry. With the Lingyu Divine Hall responsible for the repairs of the temple formations, there should be no issues," the group of chief priests nodded in agreement.

Many among them had witnessed Wen Gaoren’s expertise in formation techniques, so they easily recognized that even though Duan Cheng’an might not be as experienced as Wen Gaoren, his skills in array formation were not much inferior. Given time, he could surpass his master, which wasn’t an impossibility.

Hearing their praise, a subtle hint of pride appeared on Duan Cheng’an’s face. Ou Dechuan, not far away, also had a look of joy. He glanced at Chu Yanghe and others, then let out a slight sneer.

After being embarrassed by the other chief priests yesterday, he still held a grudge. With the Lingyu Divine Hall’s advantage in array techniques, particularly with Duan Cheng’an’s assistance, none of the other chief priests could completely fall out with him. Sooner or later, they would have to seek his help, and that would be his moment for revenge.

Meanwhile, Wen Gaoren’s hands were trembling slightly at such commendation.

Half of the formation techniques Duan Cheng’an used came from the ancient teachings of the "Divine Array Scripture" from their sect. The other half were insights from his lifetime of study. Without those insights, how could he, so young, have grasped the "Divine Array Scripture" so thoroughly? He was not Han Yan. Knowing that his years of hard work culminated in this treacherous disciple’s ambitious schemes, one could imagine his anger.

"Trivial skills, nothing more. How shameless to show this off, aren’t you afraid of embarrassment?" Just as everyone was praising, Han Yan’s disdainful voice suddenly rang out.

Han Yan’s words were like a giant stone thrown into a lake, stirring up a raging storm.

Everyone turned their heads in surprise to see Han Yan and his companions. They had recently disgraced Long Aoli and his son, leaving them publicly shamed. Were they not content with that, coming now to the Heavenly Sun Temple?

Long Aoli and his son Long Wucuo’s expressions changed slightly, with a foreboding feeling rising in their hearts. Duan Cheng’an, on the other hand, after a moment of awkwardness upon seeing Wen Gaoren, quickly regained his composure, looking confident. Ou Dechuan merely smirked.

"Han Yan, what are you doing here again?" Long Aoli asked sternly.

He accepted his loss to Han Yan on the competition platform, acknowledging his inferior strength. But off the stage, if Han Yan dared to stir trouble, he wouldn’t hold back. Since his reputation was already in tatters, he had nothing to lose. As long as Han Yan made the first offense, he believed that with his strength and the loyal priests of the Heavenly Sun Temple, he could handle her.

"Dragon Chief Priest, don’t misunderstand. I’m not here to cause trouble, just to observe your formation repairs. I thought you hired an extraordinary array master, but it turns out to be nothing remarkable, quite disappointing," Han Yan said with contempt.

"Oh, do you also understand the way of array formations?" Long Aoli said dismissively.

Considering the distance between Huayu Temple and Heavenly Sun Temple, he never paid much attention to the Huayu Temple. Although he knew something about Han Yan, he merely speculated that her strength was not as simple as it seemed. As for her accomplishments in formations, he had never heard of them.

"I wouldn’t say ’understand,’ but I’ve witnessed Master Wen’s formation techniques. This Duan Cheng’an, claiming to be Master Wen’s sole direct disciple, supposedly inherits the true teachings. Yet, I see him as a mere charlatan. If Master Wen were to repair this formation, it would require just half the meteorite gold. He’s clearly wasting resources," Han Yan said disdainfully.

"What, only half the meteorite gold, is that possible?" several priests exclaimed in surprise.

From what they knew of Wen Gaoren, even if he surpassed Duan Cheng’an in experience, in terms of array knowledge, he wasn’t necessarily much stronger. Saying that he could restore this formation with only half the materials was truly unbelievable.

Even Wen Gaoren blushed secretly. Although Han Yan was speaking on his behalf, it seemed more like she was exaggerating his abilities. Restoring the array before them would require about a hundred pieces of meteorite gold. He might manage with ten or so pieces less than Duan Cheng’an, but half? He couldn’t claim that.

"Nonsense!" Ou Dechuan sneered, saying to Duan Cheng’an, "Duan Cheng’an, you should know your master’s abilities better than anyone. Tell everyone how much meteorite gold it really takes for him to repair this array."

In fact, Duan Cheng’an didn’t need to say anything. After so many years in Lingyu City, as a main priest, didn’t he know Wen Gaoren’s capabilities? The reason he pushed Duan Cheng’an was simply to force a break with his master. Once Duan Cheng’an had no way back, he’d be tied to Ou Dechuan.

His methods in utilizing people were harsher and more insidious than those of other chief priests.

The crowd looked at Duan Cheng’an with suspicion. How could such a thing be forced upon a disciple? There must be some underlying story here.

Duan Cheng’an understood Ou Dechuan’s intentions but couldn’t refuse. From the moment he betrayed his sect, he had no retreat. Yet, being forced by Ou Dechuan to publicly renounce his master was a severe blow to his reputation. Seeing the puzzled looks of the crowd, he felt uneasy, even slightly regretful. Had he known Ou Dechuan was so ruthless, he would have reconsidered betraying his master and cooperating with them. But alas, it was too late now.

"Disciple Cheng’an, paying respects to Master." Duan Cheng’an stepped forward and said to Wen Gaoren, gritting his teeth.

His eyes showed a trace of pleading, evidently hoping Wen Gaoren would not declare his betrayal and spare him some dignity.

But he clearly had not considered how deeply his betrayal wounded Wen Gaoren. How could Wen Gaoren consider his feelings and spare him any face?

"Silence, I, Wen Gaoren, have no disciple as ungrateful and treacherous as you! You betrayed our sect, offering the array scripture passed down through generations to the Ou family, severing all ties with me. You dare call me master; it’s only my misfortune to have accepted a viper such as you as my disciple!" Wen Gaoren scolded harshly, his hands trembling with rage.

Hearing Wen Gaoren’s words, a clamor erupted around them.

So, Duan Cheng’an had long betrayed his sect, offered the family’s secret scripture to Ou Dechuan, and still had the audacity to claim to be Wen Gaoren’s sole direct disciple, using his reputation to embellish his own, utterly shameless!
