Chapter 609: The Escape
Everyone in the Qing Feng Sword Formation gave out a glow and a strong wind blew out of nowhere.
The wind started to twirl in front of the Qing Feng Sect disciples and pillars of tornadoes started to form, and WanEr HuLie with the other cultivators from the north could feel every inch of their skin being sliced by the wind.
Finally, the tornadoes were at least a hundred meters high and ten meters wide at the bottom.
All of the Qing Feng Sect disciples gave out a roar and the tornadoes started to move towards WanEr HuLie and the other cultivators rapidly.
"Argh! Help me!" One of them got entangled with the tornadoes and his arm was getting ripped off piece by piece.
His compatriot beside him pulled him out from it and they tried to leap away.
But the tornado didn’t stop and it followed them.
WanEr HuLie crossed his arms in front of him and his tattoos glowed brightly and he punched at the tornado with his fists.
Howl.
A huge glowing wolf shot out from his fist at the tornado and when it hit onto the tornado, it entangled with it, making the tornado become unstable.
Its pillar became crooked and the winds that were twirling in it became slower.
Then, the tornado dissipated.
Success.
But it came at a price for WanEr HuLie.
He had used much of his Spirit Qi in his Wolf Fang Strike and he would need time to recuperate from it.
Without hesitation, he glanced over to their leader.
JunGe DaLu narrowed his eyes when the gaze from WanEr HuLie fell on him.
He had to make his move now.
However, when he tried to do so, an aura descended onto him.
His heart skipped a few beats, and his chest felt like it was exploding.
Cold sweat broke on his brows and body.
Frantically, he tried to direct his Spirit Qi to his body.
It helped a little and he was able to gasp for air but only for a moment.
The aura increased its intensity and his knees began to buckle.
Crack.
He could hear the sounds of his bones on his shoulders cracking due to the pressure from the aura coming down at them.
JunGe DaLu glanced at Zhao Geng Nian, who had stood behind as he did.
And Zhao Geng Nian was nonchalantly stroking his beard while looking down at him.
"I will pay this back." JunGe DaLu cursed silently to himself before he turned his focus back at his men.
"Retreat, we have seen enough." He mustered whatever strength he had left and shouted at them excruciatingly.
And once these words left his mouth, the aura that was descending onto him was gone immediately.
JunGe DaLu frowned when it happened.
It felt as if Zhao Geng Nian wanted them to do so.
There was no time for him to figure it out, they had to retreat back to the safety of the mountains for now.
When the bulk of their compatriots arrived, there would be time for revenge.
WanEr HuLie glanced at the fine cultivation robes and the artifacts the Qing Feng Sect disciples had on them for one last time before he flew away with the others.
They were so close to all the riches and cultivation resources...
"Peak Lord, they are getting away." One of the Qing Feng Sect disciples shouted but Zhao Geng Nian stood where he was and kept quiet.
Xiao Feng barked at the disciple and said, "You want to die in stupidity? These men aren’t as simple as we think."
He pointed at their injuries and they lowered their heads.
The encounter earlier was indeed so.
All of the cultivators from the north with their tattoos fought in such a way that if you flinched even for a moment from their attacks, you would lose your head in the next moment.
So far, the opponents that they had dealt with treasured their lives as much as the Qing Feng Sect disciples did.
But these cultivators from the north fought like they didn’t care about their lives.
The Qing Feng Sect disciples were in their own thoughts when they heard the cheers from the top of the walls.
"They did it! The Qing Feng Sect had driven them off!"
"I knew these barbarians weren’t a match against the Qing Feng Sect."
"The Qing Feng Sect are deities sent from the Heavens to protect us and Hong Feng City!"
The soldiers cheered and some were close to tears.
Slowly, the gates of the city opened and the Formation Array dissipated.
The farmers, merchants and rich men that were trying to get inside the city earlier were now bowing at the Qing Feng Sect disciples.
All of them thanking them for their help and sparing them of a massacre by the cultivators from the north.
Zhao Geng Nian didn’t say a word and he slowly ascended into the air.
When everyone else looked up at him, the bright summer sun shining down onto him blinded them as if he was an immortal from the heavens.
Xiao Feng basked in their admiration and he followed his master, ascending into the air.
The other senior disciples also did the same and once they were together in the air, they flew back into the city.
News of what happened spread into the city like wildfire and the mood turned from somber to celebratory.
Many were in tears and thought that this time they might really die.
Hong Feng City had its fair share of disasters and one after another it was even more dire for them every time.
But thankfully, for now, it wasn’t to be.
Maybe the Qing Feng Sect was the right choice as the Guardian of the City.
The Governor had finally done something right.
Everyone thought so except for Lin Xuan Qi.
He frowned when he got the news of what had happened.
Why would Zhao Geng Nian let them get away?
He had a bad feeling about it and he glanced over at Xue Cong and the others.
"What’s the matter, Xuan Qi?" Xue Cong saw his frown and asked.
