Chapter 167: Chapter 167: The Child Is Not Cole’s
Mrs. Griffin stared at Renee Jennings anxiously. "Young lady," she pressed, "what makes you say he’s a pervert?"
Renee Jennings met Mrs. Griffin’s gaze and sighed. "The truth is, the male teacher was after the female teacher’s family connections. He couldn’t stand the thought of letting her slip away. He confessed his feelings to her a few more times after that, but he was rejected every time. So, he came up with a plan..."
"What plan?"
Several pairs of eyes stared at her without blinking.
Renee Jennings said slowly, "The female teacher is very timid, isn’t she? The male teacher wanted to get some leverage to blackmail her, so he intentionally found a handsome male student to pursue her."
Cole’s fists clenched abruptly. A stunned look washed over his face as he stared intently at Renee Jennings.
’How does she know all this?’
Seeing she was about to continue, Cole shot to his feet. "Renee Jennings, come outside with me!" he said, his tone grave.
"Whatever you have to say can wait." A relative waved for him to sit down. "Let us hear the rest of it first."
"That’s right, don’t be rude."
"Just sit down! I want to hear which poor girl was so unlucky!"
Renee Jennings said with a cheerful smile, "Cousin, this happened at your school. Aren’t you curious who that male teacher is?"
Cole’s expression was grim. "This is a private matter," he said in a low voice. "Could you please stop talking about it!"
"Cousin, why are you trying so hard to stop me?" Renee Jennings watched him, her expression unreadable. "Is it because you have a guilty conscience?"
A sinister look crept into Cole’s eyes, but he forced a smile. "What would I have to feel guilty about? I just think this reflects poorly on our school."
Renee Jennings chuckled. "So, you think our relatives here are going to spread rumors?"
The relatives were not pleased.
"Cole, my lips are sealed. Don’t worry."
"Hey, we’re all family here. Why don’t you trust us?"
"We’re just listening for the entertainment value. We won’t go around badmouthing your school."
"Renee, keep going! The male teacher got a student to pursue the female teacher. What happened after that?"
"Alright." Renee Jennings nodded and continued in a measured tone, "The student was indeed handsome. He used tutoring as an excuse to get close to the female teacher, asked her out, and intentionally flirted with her. The teacher, having never been in a relationship before, quickly fell for him. The two of them began a secret affair."
Mrs. Griffin frowned, looking puzzled. "But didn’t the male teacher like the female teacher? Why would he have another man pursue the woman he supposedly likes?"
"That’s the million-dollar question." Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow at her. "This male teacher wasn’t actually interested in the woman herself, but in her family’s money."
"And did you know? Every time the teacher and the student went on a date, the male teacher would be hiding nearby, secretly taking compromising photos of them..."
Unwilling to let her continue, Cole strode forward, grabbed her arm, and started dragging her toward the door. "Renee Jennings! I have something to say to you!"
"You let go of Renee!" Rhea Dempsey rushed after them, her face filled with anger. "You’re hurting her!"
The relatives, who were listening with rapt attention, all got up to follow the commotion.
"What’s going on?"
"I thought we were going to hear the whole story! What’s the rush? It was just getting good!"
Renee Jennings forcefully shook off Cole’s hand and sneered, "What do you think you’re doing?"
"Just come outside with me!" Cole reached for her again.
Renee Jennings slapped his hand away, her eyes filled with disdain. "The only reason you’re this nervous is because you’re afraid I’ll tell everyone that you are the male teacher in the story."
"What?" Mrs. Griffin cried out in shock. "If the male teacher is Cole, then the female teacher is..."
Cole’s mother froze for a few seconds, then glared murderously at Renee Jennings and shrieked, "That’s ridiculous! How could my Cole possibly do something like that? You say one more word of nonsense, and believe me, I will rip your mouth off!"
Renee Jennings rolled her eyes at her. She turned to look at Cole’s pale, ghastly face, her voice cold. "You deliberately took compromising photos of Cherie and the student, waiting for the moment Cherie became pregnant with his child to ’accidentally’ discover everything."
"What?" This time it was Cole’s mother who shrieked. "What did you just say? The baby in Cherie’s belly isn’t Cole’s?"
Mrs. Griffin swayed and fell into Mr. Griffin’s arms. Her lips trembled as she asked, "What is going on?"
"Renee Jennings, shut your mouth!" Cole ground his back teeth, veins bulging at his temples as he shot her a warning look.
Renee Jennings’s lips curled into a smirk. "Are you going to deny telling Cherie that you’d help her keep her secret? That you’d be the father to her baby, let her keep seeing the student after you were married, and even agree to a divorce whenever she wanted? Did you tell her all that?"
"You..." Cole’s face turned ashen. "What lies are you spouting!"
He quickly turned to the relatives. "Everyone, don’t listen to her lies! She’s just jealous of me, trying to drag my name through the mud because she can’t stand to see me happy."
"What’s the rush? I’m not finished," Renee Jennings said, turning to Mr. and Mrs. Griffin. "Cherie refused to treat marriage like a joke, so she didn’t agree to Cole’s proposal."
"You shut your mouth!" Cole’s mother screamed, trying to rush forward and clamp a hand over Renee Jennings’s mouth. "This is impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
The other relatives held Cole’s mother back.
Rhea Dempsey pulled Renee Jennings behind her. "If you dare lay a single finger on my daughter, I swear I’ll take you down with me!"
Cole’s mother was fuming. "Then get your daughter under control! Stop her from spouting this madness!"
Renee Jennings peeked her head out from behind Rhea Dempsey. "And you’ll never guess what happened next."
"You’re still talking!" Cole’s mother was about to go berserk, but the relatives held her fast. "Let go of me! I’m going to rip that little bitch’s mouth off! She has such a filthy mouth!"
Rhea Dempsey planted her hands on her hips. "Renee, keep going."
"Okay." Renee Jennings looked at Cole’s ashen face and said coolly, "Cherie rejected you again. So you pulled out the photos of her and the student on their dates and threatened her. If she didn’t agree to marry you, both she and the student could watch their reputations be destroyed."
"Cherie is a timid girl. She was terrified of this getting out and didn’t want to drag the student down with her, so she had no choice but to agree to your outrageous demand. And that’s what led to this meeting between our two families today. Am I right?"
"No!" Cole stared at her with pure hatred. "This is all a pack of lies you fabricated! I never did any of those things!"
Renee Jennings said, her face devoid of expression, "And I’m guessing Cherie still has no idea that the student she’s so head-over-heels in love with is just a pawn in your game, right?"
"Is what she’s saying true?" Mrs. Griffin came up to Rhea Dempsey, her face etched with desperation.
’No wonder I always felt that my daughter’s relationship with Cole came out of nowhere. I could never understand what she saw in him.’
’If this is true, then everything makes sense.’
Renee Jennings said, "If you want to know if it’s true, you can ask Shirley Griffin herself."
