Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Goldie Has Really Made Something of Itself
"Ow, ow, ow..." The bald man howled in pain.
Sawyer grabbed his wrist, twisted it sharply, and pinned him to the sofa with his arm behind his back.
The bald man hadn’t expected the girl to be so skilled. He quickly called to his accomplice, "Archer, get over here and pull her off me!"
"Got it!" replied Archer, the man with the short ponytail. Just as he was about to move, several uniformed police officers burst in. The dark muzzles of their guns were pointed right at him, and his face instantly turned pale with fright.
The bald man, face-down on the sofa, had no idea what was happening behind him. He was still yelling, "Hurry up and grab this bitch! I’m gonna screw her until she’s crying and begging for mercy!"
After shouting, he noticed the unnerving silence around him. He frowned and urged, "Archer, stop dawdling! Hurry up!"
The Archer he was calling for had already received a new pair of "silver bracelets."
Kyle Morgan stepped forward and snapped a handcuff onto the bald man’s wrist.
He felt a sudden chill on his wrist, and his heart inexplicably lurched.
’What’s going on?’
Kyle Morgan hauled the man to his feet, cuffed both his hands, and said sternly, "You’ve been arrested for unauthorized entry into a private residence and attempted sexual assault. We have both witnesses and physical evidence..."
The bald man was taken to the station for questioning. He couldn’t figure out how he’d been caught when he had been so careful.
Grace Holland was also at the station giving her statement. Watching the surveillance footage of the incident in her home, she felt a mix of anxiety and relief.
She couldn’t bear to imagine what horrors she would have faced without the police’s help.
At one in the morning, Renee Jennings, Sawyer, and Kyle Morgan escorted Grace Holland home. They also contacted her landlord and urged him to fix the building’s entrance security system as soon as possible.
"Let’s go," Renee Jennings said with a smile. "Time to find Goldie."
Goldie had been worried about Grace Holland all day. He couldn’t get interested in anything else and had even picked at his food distractedly.
’That streamer said she was coming to get me. I wonder when she’ll be here.’
’Did she forget?’
The convenience store owner saw Goldie lying listlessly on the floor by the entrance, looking utterly dejected, and couldn’t help but frown with worry.
"What’s wrong with Goldie? He hasn’t gone out to play at all today. Could he be sick?"
"Goldie." The owner came out from behind the cash register, walked over to Goldie, and started stroking his back. "What’s wrong, boy? You barely touched your dinner. Are you feeling unwell?"
Goldie sighed and let out a soft whine. "Dad, I’m feeling down."
The owner couldn’t understand what he was saying, only that his barks were soft and weak, lacking all of their usual energy.
"What am I gonna do?" he fretted.
He glanced up and saw two uniformed police officers and a young woman walking toward them. The owner stared, stunned, as Goldie, who had been listless just a moment ago, suddenly jumped to his feet, wagging his tail happily.
"Goldie," Renee Jennings called with a smile.
Goldie’s tail wagged even faster. He barked as he ran toward her, "You’re here, you’re here! I was starting to think you wouldn’t come!"
Seeing this, a look of astonishment appeared on the owner’s face.
’Goldie looked like he’d lost the will to live just a second ago. Why the sudden change?’
Renee Jennings reached out and stroked Goldie’s head. "We came to find you as soon as we were done."
The owner asked uncertainly, "Um, do you know my Goldie?"
"I do." Renee Jennings looked at him and smiled. "Are you Goldie’s owner?"
"Yes." Seeing the two police officers with her, the owner asked nervously, "My Goldie hasn’t gotten into trouble, has he? He’s usually very well-behaved. Maybe there’s been some kind of misunderstanding?"
Goldie looked back at him and barked, "Dad, how could I possibly get into trouble?"
"Goldie didn’t get into trouble." Renee Jennings glanced at Goldie, the smile in her eyes deepening. "He performed a great service."
The owner’s eyes widened in surprise. "What did you say? Goldie performed a great service?"
Goldie proudly puffed out his chest. "Dad, aren’t I amazing!"
Renee Jennings explained, "Goldie sensed someone was about to commit a crime and was silently protecting the victim."
"For real?" The owner looked incredulous. "Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?"
He knew Goldie was well-behaved and never caused him any worry, but he never imagined his dog was clever enough to spot a criminal and even protect a victim!
"Dad, why are you doubting me?" Goldie was a little unhappy.
"It’s true." Renee Jennings’s expression was serious. "Goldie really did perform a great service."
Kyle Morgan handed him an envelope. "Here’s five hundred yuan. It’s a reward for Goldie from the victim."
"There’s a reward, too?" the owner murmured in astonishment. "Goldie’s really made something of himself."
Renee Jennings continued, "We also learned that Goldie wants to be a police dog, so we wanted to come and talk to you about it."
"Huh?" The owner couldn’t help but pinch his thigh, wondering if he was dreaming.
’Aren’t police dogs usually German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, or Kunming Wolfdogs?’
’I’ve never heard of a common yellow dog becoming a police dog...’
Watching his owner’s reaction, Goldie anxiously pawed at him with both front paws. "Dad, what are you spacing out for? Hurry up and say yes!"
The owner snapped out of it and finally voiced his confusion. "How do you know Goldie wants to be a police dog? And can he just become one because he wants to?"
Renee Jennings explained softly, "I’m an animal communicator. During our conversation, I sensed he wanted to be a police dog. Because he performed so well this time, we can have him start by receiving professional training at the K-9 academy."
"Won’t the training be very tiring and difficult?" the owner asked.
Before Renee Jennings could answer, Goldie barked excitedly, "I’m not afraid of hardship or getting tired! I just want to be a police dog!"
The owner looked at him, his expression serious, and asked, "Goldie, do you want to be a police dog?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Goldie immediately nodded his head like a jackhammer. "I want to more than anything!"
Seeing his "kid" nodding so enthusiastically, the owner had no choice but to say, "Then go."
’The kid’s all grown up and has his own dreams. How can a parent stand in his way?’
"Hooray!" Goldie cheered excitedly, his tail wagging joyfully.
As the owner was seeing Goldie off, he held his paw and said with concern, "If you decide you don’t want to do it anymore, just come back home. Dad will be waiting for you."
Goldie barked, "Pfft, don’t jinx it!"
The trio of Renee Jennings, Sawyer, and Kyle Morgan drove Goldie to the K-9 academy that same night, not getting home until nearly three in the morning.
Half an hour later, after washing up and getting into bed, Renee Jennings opened WeChat and saw a message from Michelle Fuller, sent a little after eleven, asking about the Barbie Lowe incident.
’This girl’s curiosity is just too much.’
Renee Jennings yawned and typed out a short reply: [Let’s have dinner tomorrow night. I’ll tell you all about it in person.]
She slept until almost noon. When she woke up and opened WeChat, she saw that Michelle Fuller had already picked a place for dinner.
Michelle Fuller: [Renee, let’s eat at this place tonight~]
Michelle Fuller: [Actually, the reason I’m so curious about Barbie Lowe is because Hank has been getting pretty flirty with her lately.]
