Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Preying on Colleagues During the Lunch Break
Renee was surprised that Blueberry was willing to let Tyrant share its bed.
"Blueberry, you’ve really impressed me." She bent down, scooped the cat into her arms, and said with a smile, "You’ll get a reward in a bit."
Blueberry said happily, "Thank you, Renee!"
Renee saw that Tyrant was already hitting it off with the other dogs, a sense of relief washing over her.
"Come on, let’s get you a cat treat." She carried Blueberry into the villa. "What flavor do you want?"
Blueberry thought for a moment, then answered, "Salmon!"
"Okay." Renee pulled open a drawer of the coffee table, took out a salmon-flavored treat stick, and tore open the package to feed it to him.
The ringtone of the phone sitting off to the side suddenly blared.
Renee glanced at the screen and freed one hand to answer the phone. "Henry."
Through the receiver, the man’s soft voice came, "Kai and the others are bringing someone from the hospital to the station. Do you want to come over?"
"I’m coming," Renee said. "I’ll get ready and head over."
Seeing her put down the phone, Blueberry, who was in the middle of eating its treat, stopped and asked curiously, "Renee, are you going out?"
"I am." Renee stroked its head. "Watch the house."
Blueberry’s expression immediately turned serious. "Mission accepted."
"Good kitty." Renee let it finish the treat, then went to her room to change. "Mom, I’m heading out! I won’t be home for lunch."
"Okay," Rhea Dempsey, who was engrossed in a shopping livestream, called back.
When Renee arrived at the police station, she happened to run into the girl in the white dress, Roxanne Sullivan. Sawyer and Zachary Conway had just picked her up from the hospital.
Roxanne Sullivan’s eyes were bloodshot, and the tip of her nose was also a little red. It was obvious she had just been crying.
"Miss Sullivan, let me introduce you." Sawyer took Renee’s hand. "This is Consultant Jennings. She was the one who first realized you were being targeted by traffickers last night and rushed upstairs by herself to save you. Without Consultant Jennings, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
"Consultant Jennings." Roxanne Sullivan looked at Renee and gave her a deep, solemn bow. "Thank you so much for saving my life!"
"You’re welcome," Renee said with a faint smile. "I’m just glad you’re okay."
Roxanne Sullivan straightened up and said with a serious expression, "Consultant Jennings, you’re my savior!"
"That’s a bit of an exaggeration." Renee shook her head with a smile. "You should go give your statement first."
"Let’s go." Sawyer led Roxanne Sullivan toward an interview room.
Renee went to the office to look for Henry, but a colleague said he was in the records room. She turned and went to the interview room to watch Roxanne Sullivan give her statement.
Roxanne Sullivan’s account was exactly the same as what Inky had said last night.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening came from behind her. Renee turned to see Henry’s strikingly handsome face.
"Why didn’t you come get me from the records room?" he asked.
A faint smile touched Renee’s lips. "Has Heath Lee arrived?"
"Not yet, but he should be here soon."
"Okay."
"Want to have a cup of coffee in my office first?"
"Sounds good."
Renee recalled the last time she’d had coffee made by Henry. It was when Cici’s previous owner had gotten into trouble, more than half a year ago.
After they finished their coffee, Kyle Morgan happened to come to Henry’s office. "Boss, hey, Renee’s here too. Heath Lee is in the interrogation room."
"Kai," Renee greeted him with a smile. "I came to watch you guys interrogate Heath Lee."
"Then let’s go," Kyle Morgan said with a wave.
"Coming." Renee stood up, tossed the disposable coffee cup into the trash, and looked back at Henry. "Let’s go."
Kyle Morgan and Henry Stark entered the interrogation room, while Renee and the others watched from outside through the one-way mirror.
"Heath Lee, what did you do to the victim at your house last night?" Henry questioned.
Heath Lee, with gauze taped to his face, had a calm look in his eyes. "Aren’t I the victim here?"
"Why did you have your mother, Cathy Lee, contact human traffickers to drug innocent girls and bring them to your house multiple times?" Henry’s voice deepened. "What did you do to them?"
Heath Lee scoffed. "I never did any of that. Do you have any proof?"
Henry stared at him, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. "Why did you draw those strange patterns on the victims?"
"Did I?" Heath Lee tilted his head with a smirk. "I don’t seem to recall."
"Heath Lee, you’d better cooperate with this interrogation!" Kyle Morgan warned him, displeased.
A sinister look flashed in Heath Lee’s eyes as he growled, "I’m dragging my battered body in here to sit with you. Isn’t that cooperative enough?"
Henry’s expression was cold as he spoke slowly, "You registered an account on a foreign website called Devil Food."
"I did not!" Heath Lee immediately denied it.
Henry said, "Then take a look at this."
Kyle Morgan got up and handed a file to him. "Open your eyes and take a good look."
Heath Lee glanced at the contents of the file, and his face changed abruptly. "How did you get this?"
It contained Heath Lee’s DF account information and profile content, as well as the transaction details from his overseas bank account.
"Done making excuses?" Henry’s tone was laced with sarcasm. "If you do something, you’re bound to leave a trail."
At first, they thought it was just a typical human trafficking case.
After Renee left in the early hours of the morning, Henry stayed in his office. The more he analyzed the case, the more suspicious it seemed. His intuition told him things weren’t that simple, so he contacted his colleagues in the tech department overnight to crack Heath Lee’s computer and camera.
Connor Archer’s statement mentioned that Heath Lee had an "accident" at work two years ago. The truth was, he was caught secretly photographing his colleagues.
He would often target his coworkers during their lunch breaks, drugging them, stripping their clothes, and posting the photos on DF.
Initially, Heath Lee did these things because he was psychologically twisted. But after he was fired, he went from earning 50,000 a month to an unemployed man with no income, unable to even pay his mortgage.
Because he defaulted on his loan, the bank repossessed his house. His wife filed for divorce over it, and Heath Lee had no choice but to move back in with Cathy Lee in a dilapidated urban village.
Later, Heath Lee discovered that his DF account had gone viral. A large group of people were sending him donations and demanding more content.
Having gotten a taste of the rewards, an idea began to sprout in Heath Lee’s mind...
He used the excuse that it was too painful for him to not have a woman to relieve his urges, and he got Cathy Lee to help him find young girls.
DF was a website where perverts gathered. Many of its users were people with twisted minds who would pay Heath Lee large sums of money, requesting that he draw specific things on the young girls.
Heath Lee was silent for a long time before he said hesitantly, "I posted it on a foreign website. That’s not illegal, is it?"
"Your ignorance is terrifying." Kyle Morgan’s eyes were filled with disgust. "You think that’s your only crime?"
"What other crimes?" Heath Lee frowned and retorted, "I only wrote and drew on them! I didn’t rape them! They weren’t harmed!"
Renee was speechless listening to him. She muttered a curse under her breath, "He’s sick in the head."
She turned to walk out of the observation room and suddenly heard someone calling her name.
"Consultant Jennings!"
Renee saw Roxanne Sullivan standing in the main lobby. She walked over to her and asked in a gentle voice, "Didn’t you already finish giving your statement? Why haven’t you left yet?"
