The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 532: Taking Away Everything That Belongs to You

Chapter 532: Chapter 532: Taking Away Everything That Belongs to You

The uncle got more and more worked up as he spoke, squeezing next to Mr. Bell. "Brother, I’m serious. I’m not suggesting this so you’ll help raise Harvey. I’m genuinely concerned for you and Sister-in-law."

"Don’t talk nonsense!" Mr. Bell snapped.

Mrs. Bell also said, "Brother-in-law, you can’t joke about something like this."

"Brother, I’m truly worried for you and Sister-in-law." The uncle put on a pained expression. "Susan is a credit to you, getting into a good university. But she’s a girl, after all. Eventually, she’s just going to get married and leave, isn’t she?"

"A married daughter is like spilled water. Now, look at Ben." The uncle’s face grew smug. "His grades weren’t as good as Susan’s, but he can give me a grandson! And the boy is already this big, and so adorable."

Mrs. Bell retorted, "What’s the use of having a grandson? You had him, but you won’t even raise him."

The uncle’s expression froze. The corner of his eye twitched, and he gave an awkward laugh. "Sister-in-law, it’s not the same. We aren’t raising him because our situation doesn’t allow for it. But you and Brother are different."

"How is it different?"

"You’re retired, Sister-in-law. You have money and free time. Brother is going to retire in a few years, too. Your age and situation are perfect for raising a son! You don’t have to worry about money, and you don’t have to worry about time!" The uncle was extremely agitated, pressing his point. "Brother, Sister-in-law, if you’re willing, I’ll keep this an absolute secret from everyone!"

Seeing Mr. and Mrs. Bell remained unmoved, the uncle sighed and said earnestly, "Sigh, if it weren’t for the fact that Harvey is blood-related to you, Brother, I wouldn’t be trying to persuade you like this, would I?"

"That’s enough, Second Brother. You should hurry up and think of a solution," Mr. Bell said in a heavy voice. "For the next few days, your sister-in-law and I will look after Harvey for you."

"Well... alright then." The uncle sighed again. "I’ll be troubling you then, Brother and Sister-in-law."

But after walking out the door, the uncle revealed a relieved smile. ’As long as I can leave Harvey here, that’s half the battle won.’

Renee Jennings relayed the story Mandy had told, and Susan’s face filled with utter shock.

"What kind of crap is my uncle spewing? He’s so disgusting!" she said resentfully. "Trying to trick my parents into raising his grandson for him. He’s so shameless!"

[This isn’t as simple as raising a grandson! This is about gobbling up your family’s assets!]

[Good thing Susan’s parents didn’t agree. Otherwise, Susan would have been in for a huge loss.]

[How do you know her parents didn’t agree? They obviously did.]

Susan stared blankly at the live chat. When she saw the comment saying her parents had agreed, her brow furrowed.

"Susan," Renee Jennings called out softly. "Are you okay?"

"I..." Susan bit her lip and asked in a low voice, "Why do they say my parents agreed?"

Renee Jennings replied, "Probably because Harvey is still living at your house."

[Exactly! They said it was outrageous talk, but deep down, they were probably overjoyed.]

[I can’t believe it. Did they even consider their own daughter’s feelings when they did this?]

[Do they even need to consider them? They already said a married daughter is like spilled water.]

"Yeah," Susan said, a sarcastic smile playing on her lips. "If they really weren’t considering it, they would’ve sent Harvey away long ago. Why would they take him to his classes?"

"MEOW~ The cat knows!" Mandy cried out. "At first, Mama was strongly against it. She said it would be unfair to Susan."

"Old Man Zane, you didn’t actually take your brother’s words to heart, did you?" After putting Harvey to bed, Mrs. Bell saw Mr. Bell sitting in the living room, smoking with a heavy heart.

Mr. Bell stubbed out his cigarette and sighed. "It sounded outrageous, but I... ugh!"

Mrs. Bell took his hand, her voice choked with emotion. "Zane, I know you regret not having a son. But if we do this, we’ll be failing Susan."

Mr. Bell still didn’t say anything.

Mrs. Bell woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and found the bed empty beside her. She got up and saw him still sitting on the sofa, smoking. She frowned and called out, "Zane, why aren’t you in bed yet?"

"Honey," Mr. Bell said, putting out his cigarette. He walked over to her and said in a low voice, "There’s no rush on this. Let’s just let Harvey stay with us for now. And... don’t tell Susan yet."

Susan’s eyelashes trembled, and her eyes grew slightly red. "So... my mom didn’t agree, but my dad was tempted."

"Yes." Renee Jennings let out a helpless sigh. "And if your father has agreed, your mother will agree too, sooner or later."

Susan pressed her lips together tightly, her eyes growing redder.

She sniffled, her voice trembling slightly. "And now, it looks like my mom has agreed."

Susan lowered her gaze and gave a bitter laugh. "Because I’m an only child, whenever I heard people talk about parents favoring sons over daughters, I always thought mine would never be like that. But today, I suddenly understand. It’s not that they wouldn’t... they just never had the chance."

[Sigh, this damn world. Why does there have to be this preference for sons?]

[Aren’t daughters more caring than sons? Why does it have to be a son??]

[Because there’s a throne to inherit at home, and a son can carry on the family line.]

[A throne my ass. I’m speechless.]

Renee Jennings looked at Mandy, who was lying on Susan’s lap, and asked softly, "Mandy, did the uncle and aunt ever come to the house to see Harvey after that?"

"MEOW~ No." Mandy shook his little head. "The uncle and aunt never came again."

"Okay." Renee Jennings nodded slightly and asked, "And did Mama and Papa ever discuss Harvey?"

"MEOW~ Yes." Mandy said. "One day, Mama was video chatting with Big Sis. Big Sis found out Harvey was in our house and asked who he was."

After hearing Renee Jennings’s translation, Susan frowned. "I remember that. I was video chatting with my mom that day and heard a child’s voice. My mom said it was my cousin’s kid and kept saying how pitiful he was, that no one had cared for him since he was born. I thought it was strange at the time, wondering when my mom had become such a busybody."

’It turns out it’s because that person was going to become your brother,’ Renee Jennings thought, finding the whole thing absurd.

"It’s too ridiculous," Susan said, clenching her fists, both angry and helpless. "That’s my cousin’s child! He’s from a completely different generation than them, and they don’t even care!"

"Susan," Renee Jennings said gently. "That’s not the point here."

At her words, Susan looked at the screen, her red-rimmed eyes full of confusion. "Ms. Jennings, you mean..."

[Silly girl, you’re in college, you’re an adult now. Use your brain and think!]

[Everything in this family originally belonged to you. Now, a ’little brother’ has suddenly appeared out of nowhere to take a share of everything that’s yours.]

[Hey, do you guys think that uncle and aunt deliberately sent Harvey over? With the goal of getting a piece of Susan’s family’s fortune?]

[It’s totally possible!]
