When Renee Jennings arrived home, Michelle and Sean Fuller were in the living room, wearing aprons and chef’s hats while studying a cooking video projected onto the wall.

"Renee, you’re back!" Michelle Fuller asked with concern. "Are you hungry?"

"Renee," Sean Fuller said in greeting, before turning his attention back to the cooking tutorial.

"I’m not hungry." Renee Jennings glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already four o’clock, which meant dinner might not be on time. "I’m going upstairs to stream for a little while and make up for last night. You two carry on."

"Huh?" Michelle Fuller pouted. "You’re going to stream? Then that means I won’t be able to watch!"

Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow, a playful smile on her face. "Well, in that case, maybe you two shouldn’t cook tonight?"

"We can’t do that." Michelle Fuller shook her head. "We promised we’d be the ones cooking tonight. Just remember to tell me if anything interesting happens after you finish your stream."

Sean Fuller chimed in, "Me too!"

"Got it," Renee Jennings replied with a smile, then turned and headed upstairs.

After quickly tidying up, she went into the study to start her live stream.

The moment she started broadcasting, viewers began flooding the screen with comments.

[Whoa~ Why are you streaming at this time?]

[I just saw the notification and thought I was seeing things lol]

[Waaah, I tuned in last night just as the stream was ending.]

"My apologies, something urgent came up last night." Renee Jennings smiled lightly. "I promised I’d make it up to everyone, so here I am."

"So, lucky Sunshine, is there anything I can help you with?" Renee Jennings asked.

"Yes, yes!" Sunshine nodded eagerly and explained, "Don’t worry, Streamer, I’m one of the good ones. I definitely wouldn’t spam the call button if there wasn’t a real issue."

The smile on Renee Jennings’s lips widened, and her voice was gentle. "Alright, then tell me what’s going on."

"Okay." Sunshine nodded. "I have a tabby cat named Toto, but his behavior has gotten a little strange recently. He’s always hissing at me and my family, acting like he’s about to bite, and he refuses to be affectionate with us."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings asked curiously, "Is he acting this way toward everyone in your family?"

"Yes," Sunshine said. "He only comes out to eat. The rest of the time, he stays hidden, as if he’s afraid of us seeing him."

Sunshine’s brow furrowed. "Sometimes he even hides from us when he eats. It’s really strange. I once saw a story online about someone who took their cat to be bathed and accidentally took home the wrong one. I was wondering if it’s possible that happened to my cat."

Before Renee Jennings could even speak, she heard an indignant voice coming from her phone.

"MEOW MEOW MEOW~ You big idiot! A cat would never get swapped! I’m way too smart to let something that stupid happen to me!"

Renee Jennings blinked, recognizing it as the cat’s snarky commentary.

"MEOW MEOW MEOW! Hmph! As for why I’m hiding, don’t you have any idea why?"

Renee Jennings said softly, "He probably wasn’t swapped."

Sunshine was completely baffled. "Then what’s wrong with him? This is just so weird."

"MEOW MEOW MEOW! What are you pretending for? I’m walking on eggshells in this house, and it’s all because of you horrible humans!"

Renee Jennings frowned slightly and asked slowly, "How did these ’horrible humans’ hurt you?"

Sunshine jumped at her words. "’Horrible humans’? Streamer, don’t scare me... Were you talking to me?"

[She’s definitely talking to your cat!]

[For her to say something so random out of the blue, she must be communicating with the animal. I heard meowing just a second ago. Ms. Jennings must have heard some key info!]

"MEOW MEOW MEOW! *You’re* scared? Then how come you’re not scared of terrifying a cat?"

Renee Jennings found this increasingly odd. "Toto, can you tell me how these ’horrible humans’ hurt you?"

Toto the tabby cat didn’t know who was speaking to him, but since this person could understand him, he was determined to pour out his sorrows.

"MEOW MEOW MEOW! You have no idea! I’m so pathetic! The people in this house are monsters! They’re so terrifying. They actually said they were going to stew me and eat me!"

’Sunshine’s family was going to eat their tabby cat?’

Sunshine was extremely curious. "Know about what?"

Renee Jennings said, "Just a moment."

Sunshine immediately clamped her mouth shut.

Toto, meowing from his unknown hiding spot, continued, "MEOW~ I heard it with my own two ears! Both of them! They said they were going to cook something called ’Dragon-Tiger Soup.’ They’d catch a snake, then put a cat and that snake into a pot together, stew it until it was all fragrant, and that you could eat five bowls of rice with one serving and it would make your body super healthy!"

The more Renee Jennings listened, the stranger she found the situation.

She asked, "Sunshine, has Toto been with your family since he was a kitten?"

"He has," Sunshine replied. "I was taking a walk around my apartment complex when my neighbor and I found a litter of newborn kittens that had been abandoned by their mother, a stray."

[How did you know they were abandoned by the mom? What if she just went out for a bit?]

[Yeah, imagine the mama cat coming home to find her whole litter gone. She’d be devastated.]

Sunshine quickly explained, "No, it’s a misunderstanding. We were certain they’d been abandoned because we checked on the kittens several times, from the first evening all the way through the next afternoon, and the mother cat never came back."

"After that, we fed the kittens and waited until that night. When the mother still hadn’t shown up, we decided to adopt them."

’It sounded like Sunshine and her neighbors were kind-hearted people. Having raised the kitten themselves, it was impossible that they would ever think of eating him.’

Renee Jennings guessed that Toto must have misunderstood something.

She chose her words carefully. "Sunshine, before Toto started acting hostile toward you, did your family happen to talk about anything like a ’Dragon-Tiger Soup’?"

"Dragon-Tiger Soup?" Sunshine frowned, thought for a moment, then shook her head. "No, I don’t think so."

"MEOW MEOW MEOW! You’re lying! You were all talking about it and seemed so happy!"

Renee Jennings prompted, "Sunshine, try to think a little harder."

"Dragon-Tiger Soup..." Sunshine suddenly recalled something, her voice filled with astonishment. "Could it have been that day my mom was watching a video? It was criticizing unethical people who eat wild animals. It said they would catch a snake and stew it in a pot with a cat, and they called that ’Dragon-Tiger Soup’..."
