Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 82: Report

Book 4, Chapter 82: Report

After thinking about it for a while, Chen Chuan regarded the resigned Tian Rui.

Chen Chuan: Mr. Tian, why did you send the letter a few days ago?

Tian Rui gripped his hair.

Tian Rui: A few days ago, the camp sent me news, saying that the branch is about to be rebuilt, and that you captured one of theirs. They asked me to be careful. But would you have guessed that the moment I heard the news, I wasn’t scared? I was happy and excited. But...

He stared at his trembling hands, and his eyes turned bloodshot.

Tian Rui: I remember all that happened, and I don’t want you to fight against him again. He’s too strong; you can’t win against him. The branch will just be massacred again.

Chen Chuan: I know that the target is strong, but if he has already reached a certain level, we won’t have to fight him. If he hasn’t reached it, then there is no reason for us to fear him.

Tian Rui grew agitated.

Tian Rui: Even if he doesn’t do anything, you still won’t win against him.

Chen Chuan regarded him.

Chen Chuan: Is it because of Swamp Training Camp?

Tian Rui nodded.

Chen Chuan typed his next message calmly.

Chen Chuan: That camp alone can’t take us out.

Tian Rui felt his breathing still. Even though Chen Chuan had restrained his mental energy, at that moment, Tian Rui felt a huge pressure.

He had felt this exact same feeling from that person before, so he cast Chen Chuan a hopeful glance, but it only lasted for a moment before he shook his head, and that spark of hope faded.

Tian Rui: The captain has a student by the name of Qi Qianyang. He sponsored the boy. Since Qi Qianyang was talented, the captain kept him by his side. We all had met him. While he never joined the purity faction, we believed that he would, sooner or later. Even the captain praised Qi Qianyang’s talent. After the incident, he stayed with the captain. When the captain came to visit Xiao Wo, he brought Qi Qianyang with him a few times. Now, Qi Qianyang is one of the two instructors of Swamp Training Camp. He came to find me recently. It was just three days ago. At that time, he was sitting right where you’re sitting now. He’s really strong. He reminded me of the captain in the past. You won’t be able to win against him.

He shook his head.

Chen Chuan said nothing about that.

Chen Chuan: This is useful information, but you don’t have to worry about how we will deal with this. It is for us to worry about. I have another question. Do you know about the trainees in the training camp?

Tian Rui: A bit. Aside from Qi Qianyang, the others are somewhat talented, but they’re only mediocre martial artists.

Chen Chuan nodded.

Chen Chuan: One more question. Tian Wo got really worked up when I came to see you. Do you have other enemies?

Tian Rui blushed at that.

Tian Rui: Aside from having the knowledge to fix some things, I’m a pretty decent martial artist. Over the years, I’ve often stepped forward to defend or help some friends, so I got into a fair bit of trouble. My wife and Xiao Wo have asked me to cut ties with them, but whenever they come to me for help, I just can’t find it in myself to say no. As for Xiao Wo...

He hesitated a bit.

Tian Rui: The training camp often tells him that someone is looking for us and to be careful. He believes them.

Chen Chuan regarded him. When he saw Tian Rui duck his head again, he figured out his thoughts easily enough. Tian Rui was worried that the purity faction would hurt Tian Wo in the future, so he allowed this to happen.

He decided not to comment on this either and asked a few more questions to figure out the gist of the situation. Then, he stood up from his chair.

“I’ve recorded your answers, Mr. Tian, and I’ll tell the faction about it. If I need more clarification, I’ll come over to speak with you again.”

Tian Rui whipped his head up in shock and asked in disbelief, “You’re not taking me with you?”

“I only came here to understand the situation,” Chen Chuan explained. “While you did break some rules, I’m not the one who decides what to do with you. The faction does that, so I will submit a report to the higher-ups. Until they come to a decision, I won’t do anything.

“But I do hope that you won’t leave.”

Tian Rui nodded repeatedly. “Of course! I won’t run again! But... What about Xiao Wo?”

He started fidgeting anxiously.

“Xiao Wo’s situation is quite special. Even though he appears normal, we can’t really tell. I’m sorry, but I can’t decide on this either. I promise you, though. We won’t do anything to him for now,” Chen Chuan said.

They couldn’t just look at the surface when it came to the existences from the other world. They wouldn’t be able to come to a conclusion without careful examination.

That, however, required time to get ready, because it might lead to the target reacting in extreme ways. Chen Chuan planned to keep things as they were and only make a decision after telling the faction about the situation.

Tian Rui appeared really dejected after hearing what Chen Chuan said, but he knew that since Chen Chuan had already found the place, things weren’t going to blow over that easily.

Just then, they heard footsteps running downstairs, and a small head peeked out over the stairs. “Dad, is my skateboard fixed?”

Tian Rui cast him a glance before snapping in a rather frustrated manner, “What’s going on? Didn’t I ask you not to come down?”

Then, realizing that his tone was a little too harsh, he said, “I’m sorry, Xiaolei. I’m not yelling at you. I just have a guest over. I’ll get your skateboard fixed soon. Go back to your room, okay?”

“Mr. Tian, you should keep your son company. I’ll be leaving now. You don’t have to see me out,” Chen Chuan said.

After saying goodbye to Tian Rui and rejecting his offer to escort him to the door, Chen Chuan left the house.

Outside, he saw Tian Wo sitting on the wooden steps in front of the grass.

He looked away and headed to his car.

Tian Wo jumped off and went straight to him. “Who exactly are you?”

Chen Chuan examined him. Tian Wo was currently living as a human, and there was nothing abnormal about him. “Your father will tell you about that.”

“No matter who you are, I won’t let you bother us. I might be unable to defeat you now, but don’t be smug about it. I’ll definitely win against you in the future,” Tian Wo declared while staring at him.

Chen Chuan took in Tian Wo’s determined gaze. Setting aside his origins, if Chen Chuan just looked at his talent, then Tian Wo was indeed blessed, but his technique was mediocre, and he didn’t seem to have been trained in any standardized manner, so he wasn’t able to make full use of his talent.

This meant that Tian Rui hadn’t taught him properly, and his real father didn’t either. It was probably so that Tian Wo wouldn’t stand out.

If he learned about what he was lacking and made up for it, his fighting prowess would become far greater than now.

“I look forward to it,” he said.

Then, he got into his car, started it, and drove away as Tian Wo watched. In the end, he disappeared into the slightly blinding rays of the afternoon sun.

Chen Chuan looked to the side and saw Liu Yin again. This time, he was talking to some people by the road while occasionally looking over. When he saw Chen Chuan’s car, he waved at him.

Chen Chuan slowed down and wound down his window as Liu Yin walked over. “Are you leaving already, Lead Investigator Chen?”

Chen Chuan nodded.

Liu Yin started talking faster. “I might join the Resolution Department next month.”

Chen Chuan could have guessed it. The most outstanding youths from the martial arts families all joined the Resolution Department. A large number of such people were among the officers, such as Ni Qianqian.

They had great influence in the Resolution Department, like Cheng Shang. He was the advisor of the department. Not only did he have some decisive power, but he also had a lot of deep ties with the military and Martial Valor University.

“Congratulations. It looks like we’ll be colleagues soon,” he said.

Liu Yin sighed. “But the path I take will be the one that’s already prepared for me. My grandfather took this path, and so did my uncle. It’s a great path, but I can immediately see the end of it. That’s why I don’t want to walk down the path they’ve designed for me.”

“I have a team. Would you be interested in joining it?” Chen Chuan offered.

“Can I?” Liu Yin asked in delight.

“If your family doesn’t object,” Chen Chuan said.

“They won’t. They might have set a path for me, but they said that I’m more talented, so they’re open to respecting my wishes. I think that if I join you, they’ll have even less reason to stop me,” Liu Yin said. If he joined Chen Chuan’s team, he might deviate from his set path, but he felt that he would have a brighter future by doing this.

“Just submit an application once you join the department,” Chen Chuan instructed.

“Got it!” Liu Yin saluted, just like his family who were law enforcers.

The car window rose up slowly, and Chen Chuan started the car again to drive away.

Once he left the residential area, he drove toward the apartment where Chang Dong and Gao Yanjun were staying. He told them about the situation.

Upon hearing it, Chang Dong sighed. “So that’s what happened?”

He frowned. “But there are some suspicious things and abnormalities.”

“According to Tian Rui, he didn’t join the operation to kill the target, since he wasn’t a backbone of the branch. That’s why he doesn’t know many things,” Chen Chuan said.

“We should learn everything about Tian Rui’s situation rather than waiting for the higher-ups’ decision,” Chang Dong declared.
