Book 4, Chapter 138: Exterminate
Chen Chuan pulled the saber back, and Siegfried’s body fell on the ground. He turned around to see that Qi Qianyang’s eyes had turned red.
“Thanks for waiting,” Qi Qianyang said while grinning.
Chen Chuan pushed his hat down and replied calmly, “I told you before. It makes no difference to me.”
Qi Qianyang didn’t say anything else. From this moment on, he would be burning his life force with every second. With a loud shout, he spun on his feet and snapped the whip forward. The power from his movements traveled up the whip section by section until it eventually reached the tip.
Chen Chuan shifted to the side, and a loud explosion rang out. A huge pit was left behind on the spot where he had stood. The whip’s strike was no weaker than a shot fired from a small cannon.
He ignored it and positioned his saber behind him, then leaned down and dashed forward. The scarf on his neck fluttered from the wind.
Once the whip struck the ground, it bounced up, and Qi Qianyang dragged it back. It was going back to him as quickly as Chen Chuan was rushing forward.
Qi Qianyang could see this clearly due to his heightened senses. He wasn’t expecting that Chen Chuan could get even faster, but he soon realized that he hadn’t just become faster, his overall strength had increased as well.
After killing multiple enemies, Chen Chuan’s resonance with his second self had increased. While overlapping, he could get stronger bit by bit in battles against powerful enemies.
Qi Qianyang noticed that things weren’t going right. He wouldn’t be able to bring the whip back before Chen Chuan reached him, so he was forced to bring his arm up. It shone with faint light as it blocked the saber coming down at him.
Since there was a limit to how much spirit sense a weapon could use, and it was much lower than what Qi Qianyang could inject into his arm, he could easily block it with his bare arm while still having ample spirit sense to spare.
It would use up quite a lot of his mental energy, but he could only stay in the amplified state for around two minutes, and it would keep him at the peak in every aspect. He didn’t have to care too much about how much energy he used.
Chen Chuan delivered several slashes in an instant, but Qi Qianyang blocked all of them. When Chen Chuan noticed that he didn’t seem to be affected by his refined force and was able to keep up with his speed, he guessed that Qi Qianyang had entered some kind of boosted state.
Since his slashes were useless, he immediately changed his tactic. He let go of his saber and got into Qi Qianyang’s face to attack him with Sanshou.
Qi Qianyang immediately turned his shoulders and swung his arm like a whip. The light on the edge of his palm stood out like a light bulb.
Bam!
The moment Chen Chuan’s fist met Qi Qianyang’s palm, a blast of air shot out. Their spirit senses exploded like fireworks, and his second self went blurry for a moment. Meanwhile, Qi Qianyang’s expression didn’t change. With the breathing technique, his mutated tissue could withstand such power, and the Submission Force was a great fit for the breathing technique.
Chen Chuan’s gaze sharpened as he deflected Qi Qianyang’s arm and grabbed it to inject it with a grappling-type refined force. It didn’t achieve anything, but he had still got hold of Qi Qianyang’s arm.
The moment Chen Chuan caught him, Qi Qianyang’s expression changed. Spirit sense shone where Chen Chuan touched him, but light was also shining from Chen Chuan’s palms. For a time, their spirit senses ate away at each other. After a moment, Chen Chuan yanked Qi Qianyang over and threw a punch at his stomach. A shockwave shot out from his fist.
While his refined force wasn’t doing anything to Qi Qianyang, his raw strength was a different matter. Qi Qianyang let go of the whip to block the attack.
The punch was incredibly heavy, and his hand slammed into his stomach. The light on it melted away instantly, and his bones cracked. He gave a full body shudder and would have been thrown off his feet if Chen Chuan hadn’t dragged him back and shoved his knee upward.
Bam!
Qi Qianyang’s back arched like a prawn. His legs once again lifted from the ground, and his eyes bulged.
Chen Chuan pulled his arm over and stepped into his space. Once their bodies were pressed flush against each other, he threw Qi Qianyang down and slammed him on the ground before grabbing the fallen whip to wrap it around his neck. Then, he tightened it.
Qi Qianyang grunted and started struggling with all his might, but no matter how he struck Chen Chuan, the hands around the whip refused to budge. It was as if they were made of steel.
Chen Chuan had figured out that Qi Qianyang was draining his energy and life force with every second. He wouldn’t be able to do it for long, so all Chen Chuan had to do was wait patiently.
Qi Qianyang flailed and twisted desperately using all sorts of refined forces to break free. He even activated his spirit sense to fight back, and light spilled out from his neck, but Chen Chuan held him down and used spirit sense to keep him that way. All of Qi Qianyang’s efforts were in vain. His sole success was creating a deep pit on the ground with his flailing and rising dust and weeds into the air.
Two minutes soon passed.
Qi Qianyang’s explosive power vanished, and he slumped down like a punctured ball. His originally toned muscles withered, and his eyes sunk in. In just a short while, all that was left of him was skin and bones.
Chen Chuan twisted off Qi Qianyang’s head with a loud snap. It rolled off his body and bounced on the ground.
It was only at this moment that Chen Chuan let go and let the shriveled body fall. He straightened up and walked to the head.
Qi Qianyang’s flesh squirmed as he shifted to face Chen Chuan. “My master will come for you,” he said with a grin.
Chen Chuan looked down. “Even if he doesn’t come for me, I will seek him out myself.”
He brought a foot up and stomped down, even though Qi Qianyang still had something to say.
Crunch.
The head exploded.
After taking care of Qi Qianyang, Chen Chuan looked over and saw that Ingram’s group had already left. They were moving at lightning speed, so in just a short while, all he could see was a black dot.
He gave them a cursory glance before stretching his arm out and making a grabbing motion at their backs.
***
Ingram was running when he stumbled and fell to his knees while cradling his stomach. He could feel something churning inside him and gnawing at his mutated tissue as well as his organs.
That wasn’t all. It was trying to climb to his brain despite having no form. None of the other tissue in his body could stop it, and this made Ingram’s skin crawl.
He activated his mental energy to chase the thing out. The raccoon would have been expelled before, and Ingram could have recovered in an instant.
However, after feasting on the smoke from the egg shell, he was no longer suppressed by mental energy. This action only served to make it angry, and it started tormenting Ingram even more.
There were many people running away with Ingram, but none of them turned around, though Ingram didn’t know whether it was because they didn’t see him or whether it was because they didn’t dare to stop.
All Ingram could do was to pump out more blood essence from his heart to repair his wounds and stumble forward.
The insect flood was right behind him. He couldn’t stop for even a moment. He had to run away.
Besides, he could tell that this attack came from Chen Chuan. Based on his experience, there was a distance limit to stuff like this. Once he got far enough, he would be able to break free.
Chen Chuan could tell what he was planning, and Ingram was right. There was indeed a range for the raccoon’s attack, but it was huge. In the past, it could attack a target several districts away. Now that its range had increased even more, even Chen Chuan didn’t know whether Ingram could escape with his current speed. Even if he did, he would still need to escape from the insect flood.
Chen Chuan turned around and went to where Heros had buried the artifact. With a kick and a blast of refined force, the dirt churned, and the ball shot out.
He bent down and picked it up.
A flapping of wings came from a distance. Dawncall flew over with a light backpack in its claws. The backpack fell as it let go and folded its wings to dive down while chirping happily.
Dawncall was smart. The moment the insect flood showed up, it flew back to where Chen Chuan’s backpack was to try and bring it back to him, but since it was too heavy, it couldn’t do it. Instead, it opened the backpack with its beak and brought over the packs one by one. It had made this trip more than ten times.
In the end, it even brought the empty backpack over.
Chen Chuan nodded approvingly at this. Dawncall did well this time. After all, the backpack also contained the medicine. He felt ill at ease leaving it at home, so he had brought it with him, and he couldn’t afford to lose it.
He patted Dawncall’s head and grabbed a can from his backpack to feed it some special nutritional food.
Loud noises came from underneath. Chen Chuan looked down and saw that the ground had risen around forty meters. At this point, the creature finally showed itself.
It looked like a huge centipede. There were rings made of keratin and uneven wrinkles all over its body. It was all coiled up, so Chen Chuan guessed that it was around several kilometers long. Powerful legs squirmed to push it slowly forward.
Chen Chuan cast a glance at it and fell into deep thought. He had had an inkling of what it was, but now that he truly saw it, he became even more certain of his guess. If that were the case, he had no need to leave despite the insect flood rampaged toward him.
Speaking of which, where was Xu Chan’s team?
The moment the thought struck, Chen Chuan sensed movement and looked over to see a number of people making their way toward him.
