Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 185: Eat High-Quality Food While Training

Book 4, Chapter 185: Eat High-Quality Food While Training

Chen Chuan cast a glance at the ingredients before asking, “How long can they be stored?”

“If you have special containers and a proper place to store them, the bioactivity can last for around two years, but their nutritional value will dwindle away.

“This is unavoidable. If you’re not getting your ingredients in the merged space itself and eating them there but are instead having them shipped here, it’s hard to make sure that they’re provided to you in time and in their freshest state.”

“Hard, but possible?” Chen Chuan asked.

“Yes. It’s all a matter of how much you’re willing to invest. As long as you pay enough, you can get fresh ingredients,” Gao Yanjun clarified.

“Are those who can verify the quality of ingredients common?” Chen Chuan asked after nodding.

“Since you need to practice verifying the ingredients for a long time before being considered skilled, you need to work with a martial arts master for some time, and you need a certain degree of talent for it, they’re not common. Most people have a hard time verifying the quality, but there are tools nowadays that can help you with it.

“If I were to evaluate this batch of ingredients by the usual standard, every packet reaches the passing mark, but they’re lacking a bit in terms of overall nutritional value. An inexperienced person could easily miss this.”

Chen Chuan hummed at that before turning to Rui Shenggu. The man immediately understood what he meant and said, “The domain has been locked down since you came in, which makes it hard to send any signals or messages outside. We will only remove the lockdown and restore communications at your request.”

“Alright. Please restore it. I’d like to call someone,” Chen Chuan requested.

“Please come with me,” Rui Shenggu said.

The three of them left the room. Once they were outside, Rui Shenggu spoke to an employee waiting there. In less than a minute, communications were restored.

Chen Chuan immediately called Gao Ming and gave him a brief run-down of the situation. “Tell the municipal government that I’m not satisfied with the ingredients. They should send another batch and ensure that the quality is on point. I won’t hold them responsible for this one, but I don’t want to see anything wrong with the next one.”

“Got it. I’ll talk to them,” Gao Ming stated.

Chen Chuan didn’t take the ingredients with him. After thanking Rui Shenggu, he said goodbye to him and left with Gao Yanjun.

The municipal government was soon told about what had happened and began to sweat buckets. Mr. Quan personally contacted Chen Chuan and apologized to him before promising that they would make sure that such a thing would never happen again. They were going to make sure that the next batch was going to meet the standards.

The municipal government finally had the chance to ease tensions with Chen Chuan. At the very least, they didn’t want anything to go wrong during this period of time. If Chen Chuan ended up fighting them because of a problem with the ingredients, all their efforts would go to waste.

It wasn’t as if the municipal government had done this on purpose. It was simply that they had never needed to take care of a martial arts master before, so they had handed it over to a professional agent.

The food of martial arts masters was unique. Most of them were purchased from the merged space. In the past, when Jibei Road’s merged space was at war, the municipal government used underground trading channels with the former royal family, so it wasn’t difficult for them to get the ingredients.

Once the imperial army was defeated in the merged space and the former royal family pulled out, the channel disappeared, and the municipal government practically couldn’t get fresh ingredients. All their agents could do was purchase ingredients from branch companies in the merged space, which did internal quality assessments of the ingredients to “make sure” that they passed the mark.

Yet something still went wrong. Gao Yanjun sent her assessment report to the municipal government. After reading through it, they found that the overall nutritional value didn’t hit the mark. Once they did a review, they found that they had indeed been careless in this.

This meant that they would have to buy a new batch at a high price from branch companies and other Central Cities.

Some politicians had stored a lot of high-quality merged space ingredients and nutritional paste, and they sold them at a sky-high price to the person in charge of gathering the ingredients.

After only two days, the municipal government managed to prepare another batch. Since they were worried that things would go wrong, they doubled the original amount and asked the politician in charge of it to personally deliver the ingredients to Chen Chuan’s house.

Gao Yanjun inspected all of them to make sure that they were harvested within the last month and could be considered fresh. The food still had its nutritional value.

The politician sighed in relief after passing the inspection. Once he said goodbye and left, he found that he was covered in sweat. Even his hands were shaking.

There was simply no way he wouldn’t be scared. The previous two politicians who had given the order to attack Chen Chuan were examples of what would happen to him if he failed. These two had already been unpersoned. Their names were removed from the municipal government, and they could no longer be seen anywhere. No one spoke of them, as if they had never existed, and even their families had disappeared overnight.

That was why the politician had been nervous from the moment he got this job. When there was a problem with the first batch, he had already wanted to run away, but thank goodness he managed to get the second batch to pass.

When he thought about how this was going to continue for the next couple years, he felt like even breathing was a herculean task. Quickly, he took the medicine he carried on his person and decided to get a new cardiovascular implant.

Since the ingredients couldn’t be stored for long, Gao Yanjun immediately got to processing them. She asked for a room, and half an hour later, she brought out a tray with the ingredients. The amount seemed pitifully small, no more than ten mouthfuls.

This was because ingredients needed to be prepared in a certain way, and all their unnecessary parts had to be removed, so that the nutrients would concentrate in the little pieces, and the martial arts master could absorb them in a more efficient way.

After processing the ingredients, the nutritional value would be retained for up to a little over ten minutes. Chen Chuan had to eat everything immediately after it was brought to him.

He grabbed a pair of chopsticks and put a slice of meat into his mouth. His mutated tissue started greedily inhaling the calories within it.

He nodded at that. Setting aside the nutritional value, the taste was also on point.

He had learned from Gao Yanjun that she didn’t add any seasoning. All the taste came from the synergy between the ingredients. Of course, the cooks didn’t do this just for the taste. It was mainly because they wanted to ensure that the ingredients complemented each other perfectly to benefit the absorption of nutrients.

“The ingredients and nutritional paste should last you for around a month, maybe two, based on usual consumption,” Gao Yanjun remarked.

Chen Chuan nodded. The nutrients would indeed be enough for a regular martial arts master, but to him, this was far from enough.

Later on, he would ask the municipal government to increase the amount, but he wasn’t going to ask for an impossible one. It would just make them think that he was doing it on purpose, and he would end up intensifying the conflict. Right now, both sides were getting into a state of preparation, and it wasn’t time for the final battle, so there was no need for him to do that.

Besides, his current source of energy was what he absorbed from the other world. It replenished all the energy he used up, while the food he got was just a snack.

When it came to ingredients that were beneficial for his training, he would have to go to the depths of the merged space or near the World Ring to get them.

After eating the food, Gao Yanjun asked, “What should I do with the first batch?”

While the municipal government prepared another batch, they didn’t throw away the previous one. Grand Prosperity Finance had sent it over as well.

Chen Chuan thought about it. The nutritional value of that batch was much lower than what he ate. It was practically a drop of water to him. If Gao Yanjun processed it, he would end up wasting her energy and time. So, he asked her whether animals could have it. Once he was told that they could and would benefit greatly, he knew what he should do, though he would have to control the amount given.

He nodded. He had decided to feed them to Dawncall.

Once he finished eating, Gao Yanjun left. Over the next few days, she was going to come every day to process the ingredients.

Chen Chuan made some estimates. The energy he stored from the food could let him fight once against Wei Guochan and Long Xiang. If he wanted to fight more intensely, he would need more energy. Other martial arts masters would have to spend even more energy, because they were bound to fight longer.

This didn’t even consider the energy that would be burnt while training. It was no wonder why martial arts masters avoided fighting at all costs.

Chen Chuan went back to his training room, where Dawncall was waiting for him. The moment it saw him, it chirped. Ever since it came back from the merged space, it seemed to have gone through some sort of transformation. Its mutated tissue kept growing, and it was now so big that when it stood up on its feet, it reached his shoulders.

Chen Chuan went to the side to pick up the Frost King Saber and drew it out. He released his biofield, then opened a small gap and placed the eggshell artifact in front of it. Wisps of smoke came out.

Dawncall chirped happily and hopped over to inhale the smoke. At the same time, the raccoon yipped, and a translucent raccoon charged out of Chen Chuan’s shirt pocket to bite off an entire chunk of the smoke. It swallowed it quickly and snagged another wisp. It was moving at a lightning fast pace.

Chen Chuan watched them eat. The eggshell could cover for the energy he used, but this was only a Class Five artifact, so it wasn’t all that useful to him. There was a limit to how much it could help him recover. Once he reached that limit, no matter how much more smoke he inhaled, it did not do anything.

This was because Chen Chuan was in a higher state of being than the artifact. However, it was still useful to Dawncall and the raccoon, especially the latter. Chen Chuan no longer needed to feed people to it.

In truth, the raccoon was no longer useful to him in battle, but since he had used it for this long and no longer needed to find food for it, he was going to keep it as a pet.
