Book 4, Chapter 207: Relax The Mind And Perceive Distant Sentiments
When Chen Chuan and Hu Kan headed back, the mutated predecessor guarding that gap opened up before they even got close so that they could leave easily.
Even if opening the gap drained his energy, he did it willingly.
Hu Kan snorted. After the shock they gave him the first time around, he had become much more sensible. Hu Kan had been wondering whether he should hit the old guy a few times if he was too slow, but since he was being so good, Hu Kan couldn’t find it in his heart to do it.
Once they returned to Hollow Mountain Island, they walked down the path they took to come up. Before they left Clear View Hall, though, Chen Chuan grabbed the horse-cutting saber from the wall and cleaned up both sabers a bit before picking up the Frost King Saber.
It was a pity that the Frost King Saber didn’t manage to witness the final fight, but they were pressed for time, so he didn’t have the luxury of going back to grab it. He was going to pay more attention to this in his next fight.
Hu Kan found his armor and backpack. He pulled out a signal flare and fired a shot into the air.
This let the warship know that the operation was a success. Soon, they would send people to pick them up and occupy the island.
Once they packed up, Chen Chuan and Hu Kan walked to the beach, and landing crafts drew closer. They spoke to the people sent over, but since whatever was going to happen next had nothing to do with them, they took a motorboat and left Hollow Mountain Island to return to the warship.
A liaison officer approached them for a debriefing and was delighted. He wasn’t expecting them to finish the job so quickly. Without Xiaoyue Zhai around, it would be much easier to deal with the people on the island.
“Thank you for your work. Please leave the rest to us,” he thanked them.
“What are you going to do to the island?” Chen Chuan asked.
Serene Radiance School wasn’t just a martial arts school. It was also an important Zen temple that spread its religious teachings and once had plenty of believers among the island nations.
In the new era, most old religions fell into decline, including Skyhigh Cult, which had only taken in country leaders. They didn’t even have proper martial artists anymore.
Due to Serene Radiance School also passing down its martial arts, it still had widespread influence. It was similar to Fierce Wave School in this manner. If they didn’t deal with this properly, there was going to be a gigantic bomb waiting to explode in their faces in the future. Their enemies could make use of it very easily.
The liaison officer said, “We have a plan for this. It’s supposed to be kept a secret, but since you’re the one asking it, I can tell you about it.
“Master Hongfa created two schools. One of them rose to power, while the other fell into decline. Serene Radiance School was the stronger one, though the other school is still around. Xiaoyue Zhai might be gone, but we can have the successor of the other school take over this place. This will placate the hearts of the people here.”
Chen Chuan knew that he was talking about Single Flow School, and this was a good move. He asked, “You’ve spoken to the successor?”
“Yes, we have. They’re willing to take up the responsibility.”
If Talu was willing to do it, then the purity faction might have asked her to do it. Existences from the other world could come through gaps, so it was of vital importance to secure them, and now, they had a perfectly good reason to do it.
“You can rest in the warship or the airship. If you have any requests, feel free to tell us. Mr. Chen, we’ll get you the things you requested previously,” the liaison officer said politely to Chen Chuan.
“What about Lao Peng? Doesn’t he need help?” Hu Kan asked.
He was talking about the martial arts master who was supposed to come with him. Since he got called over because of another emergency on the way here, they split up.
“No. We received news that the person the Linacrox Union sent to get the artifact got stopped by someone else, so Mr. Peng should be able to complete the mission himself,” the liaison officer answered.
Chen Chuan asked a few questions about it and learned that Xiaoyue Zhai had offered the school’s artifact to the Linacrox Union in order to get some benefits and support. In exchange, the Linacrox Union had promised to send reinforcements.
Serene Radiance School had been around for eight hundred years, and Master Hongfa should have picked the place because it had a gap. Even if there was a long era of dormancy during the course of the eight hundred years, there should still be at least four hundred years where the school experienced an era of change. After such a long period of time, it was normal that it came into possession of an artifact, though every artifact was different from each other.
“If he managed to get benefits from the Linacrox Union, that artifact must be of a high class or have some unique function,” he commented.
“I heard that it can increase a martial arts master’s fighting power and waive off energy consumption for a period of time. We believe that it’s a Class Four or Class Three artifact,” the liaison officer answered.
“That’s useful,” Hu Kan said and turned to Chen Chuan. “Brother, if Xiaoyue Zhai had that artifact, he would have been much stronger, and it would have taken us a lot more effort to kill him.”
Chen Chuan nodded. If the people taking the path of the mental form didn’t have to worry about energy consumption, they would be truly tough opponents.
In the hands of a powerful martial arts master, the artifact would be really dangerous, so it was no wonder why the Great Shun Republic sent a martial arts master over to intercept the artifact once they got word about it.
“Since Lao Peng’s going to be okay, we have free time now.”
Hu Kan beckoned Chen Chuan over. “Come on, brother. Let’s go rest and eat some good food. I’m starving after the fight.”
The liaison officer quickly got someone to bring Chen Chuan and Hu Kan to the bathroom in the dock landing ship to wash up. Once they came up, the person brought them to a lounge specifically prepared for them.
“Are you working for Ocean Development Corporation, Big Brother Hu?” Chen Chuan asked on the way.
“You can say that. The government sent Lao Peng and I over to the corporation. It provides us with the resources we need, while we solve their problems when necessary,” Hu Kan answered.
On the surface, it seemed like Ocean Development Corporation had hired Hu Kan, but in truth, it was the government who had sent him there. This way, they didn’t have to worry about the corporation slipping out of their control. The corporation would also provide all the food that their martial arts masters needed.
Speaking of which, Ocean Development Corporation was a state-owned enterprise, so it had a duty to share the country’s burdens.
They entered the spacious lounge and sat down. Soon, the large door opened, and two guards walked in. They saluted, and the liaison officer entered the lounge. He gave a sign to whoever was behind him, and four people pushed two heavy serving carts inside.
They pushed the carts in front of each of them, and the liaison officer said, “Mr. Chen, Mr. Hu, this is the food we prepared for you. We don’t have many ingredients out here at sea, so we can only provide you with this amount for now. We hope you won’t mind.”
He then had the waiters remove the food covers to reveal the food underneath. Each cart had a plate that was 1.5 meters long with a golden saltwater eel.
The eels were cut into multiple neat, even sections that allowed them to pick them up with chopsticks or forks.
Chen Chuan could tell that each section had been processed meticulously. The bones, scales, and organs were removed, then the flesh was put back together to resemble a whole eel again.
Chen Chuan could smell a strong aroma from it, and his mutated tissue stirred awake.
Hu Kan didn’t jump straight to eating, which made it clear that this wasn’t his first time eating the eel. “This is the Great Sea Eel, and it’s best eaten this way. There’s a cook specializing in it within the corporation.
“It’s hard to get this eel, because merged space sea creatures are the most elusive. Not only can it help us replenish our energy, but it can also provide us with rare minerals and nutrients. I could only eat a section of it a few days ago, then some of its meat further back. They’re only letting us have two full eels because we worked so hard for them.”
He rubbed his hands together. “We need to eat this fast, brother. I’m going to start first.”
He picked up a spoon, picked up his plate, and grabbed a large spoonful before he started chowing down.
The liaison officer bowed to him. “I won’t be bothering you two during your meal.”
With a wave of his hand, he left with the others and closed the door behind him.
Once everyone left, Chen Chuan picked up his chopsticks and grabbed a piece. When he put it in his mouth, he found that the processed, tender meat melted in his mouth the moment it touched his tongue. A freshness second to none spread on his tongue, and it was so good that he took a few more pieces. Soon, he felt a pleasant warmth in his body.
He took a moment to feel it. The eel provided a lot more energy than the national fish. It had so many nutrients that Hu Kan was letting out steam as he ate. However, when it came to the taste, this cook couldn’t compare to the limp old man.
This was no surprise, since the limp old man got his skills passed down to him. His family had been cooking for martial arts masters for centuries. The accumulated experience was definitely way higher than that of a regular cook.
Besides, each cook displayed different levels of skill with different ingredients. Some people were good with one dish, but not that good with another. Gao Yanjun was the only one who was an all-rounder. She could process every kind of ingredient with similar skill. Such a person was the best for a martial arts master.
The two Great Sea Eels were large, but the two ate so quickly that in a little over ten minutes, they finished all of them.
Clearly not satiated yet, Hu Kan put down his spoon and leaned back against his sofa before exhaling in bliss. “That was worth it, though I was only able to kill Xiaoyue Zhai by riding on your coattails. Otherwise, this meal wouldn’t have helped me replenish my energy.”
“You flatter me, Big Brother Hu. We both helped each other,” Chen Chuan said just as he got a chime on his Realm Pass. It was sent through the warship’s domain entity.
“Mr. Chen, I’m the liaison officer of Ocean Development Corporation. We’ve prepared everything you need.”
