Return to the City: The Strongest King

Chapter 2447: Chapter 2245: It Came from This Cow_2

"Yeah, when I was little, the pork we ate came from home-raised pigs, which grew up eating grains and wild vegetables. They usually raised them for a year before slaughtering, so the pork had a flavorful taste—both delicious and chewy. But the pork we eat now is different; it’s all from farms, raised in large-scale operations, grown up on feed with hormones and lean meat powders. They slaughter them at three months, like unripe apples that look big like ripe ones, but does the taste compare?" Wang Shangjin followed Boss Niu’s words.

"Exactly! I thought about it too, so I asked the kitchen in our cafeteria why the pork tasted so bad. They told me it’s not the cooking skills—it’s the pork itself. So I thought, why not raise my own pigs? Not only would I eat assuredly, but I’d also save the trouble of planning the year-end bonus." Boss Niu told everyone.

Chapter 2246: Giving Pigs Pulse Drinks

"Talking about my pig farm—it’s not that easy to set up. It brought me deep insights, reminding me that saying it isn’t enough; you’ve got to do it. Consider pig farming; it’s quite the study." Boss Niu continued.

"Do you know why I let the pigs live in two-story buildings?" Boss Niu asked everyone.

The group shook their heads.

"I planned to raise pigs, so I selected a nearby location—a fairly remote rural area without many inhabitants around. I liked this place and went to discuss it with the local government officials. Can you guess what they said?" Boss Niu asked everyone.

"They welcomed you, right? Eco-friendly pig farming, boosting the local economy and tax revenue—such a wonderful thing!" Wang Shangjin said to Boss Niu.

"Wouldn’t it be great if that were true? Guess what they actually said? They told me pig farming would destroy surface green vegetation and damage the ecological environment. They requested compensation for the environmental impact." Boss Niu said.

"Isn’t that a joke? How does a pig farm pollute the environment?" Ma Jiayi asked discontentedly.

"I asked them the same thing. But the staff told me that building pig pens would destroy surface vegetation and affect the area’s green vegetation coverage rate. If I wanted to farm pigs there, I had to offer an ecological compensation." Boss Niu said.

"Isn’t this just a way to extort money?" Wang Shangjin said.

"Exactly! I turned around and left without a word, heading to the neighboring village." Boss Niu said.

"What did the neighboring village say?" Zhang Lijiao asked Boss Niu.

"The officers from the neighboring village told me the same—raising pigs would indeed affect the surrounding environment. But instead of asking for money, they selected an isolated place for me, which wouldn’t affect the lives of nearby residents. They even provided a plan. They noted the preciousness of surface green vegetation, suggesting we leave the ground exposed, like the stilt houses of the Dai people, and build the farm on the second floor. Though the lighting isn’t ideal below, the vegetation stays preserved. They handed me this proposal, saying if I planned to build the farm in their area, I’d have to follow this plan. I found it feasible and agreed. So news spread about me raising pigs in two-story buildings." Boss Niu said.

"So that’s how it is..."

"I set up the farm in their area, employed many locals as staff. Many locals learned my pig farming methods, launching various other pig brands. In just a year, the economic conditions between the two villages differed significantly. This village boasts spacious and bright houses with tiled roofs, and residents drive cars, while the other has low mud houses, living just like facing Yellow Earth, back towards the sky—a stark contrast." Boss Niu said.

"Yeah, that’s short-sightedness, sacrificing the future for immediate gain. Is there not even one pig-raising household in their village? When villagers there raise pigs, it doesn’t pollute the environment, but for Boss Niu, it does?" Ma Jiayi asked indignantly.

"Simply put, they wanted money. My pig farm brings them untold tax revenue annually, and I helped the villagers grow prosperous. But the village I initially favored missed a great development opportunity just because of a local officer’s remark." Boss Niu also said annoyedly.

"Come on, Boss Niu, don’t be mad. The pork is on the table, why talk about this? Let’s taste it!" Wang Shangjin said to all at the table.

"Yes, everyone, taste it quickly!" Boss Niu enthusiastically beckoned everyone.

A group of bosses savored the pork, nodding in satisfaction.

"Boss Niu, your pig farming skills are quite impressive!" Zhou Yuanzhi, with his mouth full, gave Boss Niu a thumbs-up.

"Fragrant, tender, chewy!" Wang Shangjin said, chomping as he spoke.

"This is hands down the best pork I’ve ever had—better than the pork in the New Year pig dish when I didn’t eat meat for a whole year as a kid!" Ma Jiayi also remarked.
