Chapter 1862: Chapter 1800: Fear and Dread
Summoning a court physician to Cining Palace is no small matter. Soon, the Imperial Medical Bureau dispatched a physician hastily, learning that it was merely a palace matron by the Empress Dowager’s side with a minor injury. He breathed a sigh of relief and swiftly administered treatment to Nanny Shui’s wound.
It was just a minor cut, and Wufu had already performed simple first aid, so the physician’s treatment was swift. Within moments, the wound was bandaged, and he prescribed a calming and blood-enriching remedy.
"It’s just a small cut, must I take medicine for it?" Nanny Shui said, half crying, half laughing.
Empress Dowager Mo scolded, "You’ve acknowledged your age; blood loss naturally requires replenishment to calm your nerves. Otherwise, you might not sleep well at night. Very well, over the next few days, rest well and don’t come to serve me. I’m not lacking without you by my side." Saying this, she instructed the palace maid who usually served Nanny Shui, "Take good care of Nanny, report to me if anything arises."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Nanny Shui saw this and a trace of emotion flashed in her eyes. She urged, "Your Majesty, this old servant’s quarters are cramped; please return to your sleeping quarters promptly."
The Empress Dowager graciously condescending to enter a palace maid’s room was already an immense honor.
"Very well, then rest well." Empress Dowager Mo turned to Wufu and said, "The glutinous rice buns have been made and sent over as per Royal Mother’s orders; you don’t need to prepare them yourself. Just accompany Ah Jiu properly."
"Yes, Royal Mother. Today it was all my fault, causing Nanny to injure her hand," Wufu said, feeling guilty.
"Princess Consort, please spare this old servant. It’s all due to my incompetence, not related to the Princess Consort," Nanny Shui said in trepidation.
Wufu wished to speak further, but Empress Dowager Mo said, "Enough, you are kind-hearted. These things happen; it’s not a major issue, and there’s no need for constant self-blame. Let’s go back and chat; let’s not disturb Shui Xin’s rest."
Upon hearing this, Wufu could only offer Nanny Shui a sheepish smile.
"This old servant shall see Your Majesty off," Nanny Shui stood up.
"No need for you, just rest well," Empress Dowager Mo extended her hand to Wufu.
"Then, this old servant shall later write down the recipe for the glutinous rice buns and send it to the Princess Consort," Nanny Shui looked at Wufu and said.
Wufu supported Empress Dowager Mo’s arm, her eyes twinkling, and she smiled, "Then I’ll be waiting for it, Nanny."
The two exchanged a glance and then each looked away.
Though Empress Dowager Mo insisted there’s no need to send them off, Nanny Shui certainly wouldn’t dare assume such importance; she escorted them to the door, standing by the entrance watching them leave together.
Wufu said something unknown, bringing a delighted smile to Empress Dowager Mo’s face. She patted Wufu’s hand, and as Nanny Shui watched, her eyes turned sour, her hand gently braced against the door frame, her expression complex.
If only that incident hadn’t occurred, how wonderful it would be. The Empress’s happiness and joy, her smile, was genuine and from the heart. She was truly happy; however, how long can such jubilant sounds endure now?
What Wufu said...
Nanny Shui recalled her words, and her body couldn’t help but tremble slightly, a thread of fear spreading from her heart. What to do?
Has the Emperor really harbored murderous intent towards the Prince?
Previously, the Prince indeed vaguely mentioned it to her. Did he harbor suspicions even then? Where did the error arise? Nearly everyone aware of this matter has perished; how could it...
Now, with the Prince directly questioning, how should she respond? After revealing the truth, how will the Prince, the Emperor, and the Empress Dowager cope?
Fear and suspicion, like a beast opening its bloody, massive maw, roared toward Nanny Shui, making her body weaken, unable to move.
That evening, the pain from the wound, coupled with her heavy heart, affected the aging Nanny Shui, and she fell ill.
