Doted By The Regent King

Chapter 1864 - 1802: Hidden Secrets

Chapter 1864: Chapter 1802: Hidden Secrets

Although I couldn’t glean any factual truth from Nanny Shui, based on today’s events, Wufu can basically conclude that the Emperor truly harbors feelings of admiration for Empress Dowager Mo. He genuinely views the Dowager as a beloved woman, rather than a mother.

As for Empress Dowager Mo, whenever she faced Emperor Yan, not even a trace of the emotions one has towards a lover emerged, not even the slightest bit. What she displayed was entirely the attitude expected of a stepmother.

In fact, she avoided discussing Emperor Yan.

Her avoidance suggests something ambiguous.

Either Empress Dowager Mo is an expert in acting, hiding her true feelings deeply, or she is somewhat resistant and evasive towards the Emperor’s affections.

Wufu leans towards the latter view.

A woman, if she truly loves a man, cannot conceal it no matter how clever. Even a glance or a small gesture will betray hints for others to capture.

But with Empress Dowager Mo, there wasn’t even the slightest hint of affection or love.

Thus, Wufu suspects that the Emperor is unilaterally consumed or that there are some undisclosed secrets between them.

Not to be spoken of...

Wufu paused his steps, furrowing his brows. What on earth could absolutely not be revealed?

Except...

Wufu’s complexion changed.

"Ah, Princess Consort of Jin, are you departing the palace?" A voice interrupted Wufu’s thoughts.

Looking up, she saw Empress Song standing before her, accompanied by palace maids and eunuchs, alongside a group of patrolling guards.

Wufu approached, curtseyed, and greeted, "Her Majesty the Empress, may Ji Xiang be with you."

"I was just on my way to pay my respects to the Royal Mother. Are you leaving the palace?" Empress Song smiled at her.

"I have important matters to handle in the mansion, hence I am leaving the palace," Wufu replied with a smile.

A sharp intuition caught the gaze coming her way, prompting Wufu to glance sideways where a guard in dark red attire lowered his head.

"Then next time, please come to Kunning Palace for a conversation," Empress Song suggested.

Wufu curtsied slightly.

Empress Song nodded and departed with a team of eunuchs and palace maids.

Once she left, the patrolling guards followed suit.

Wufu watched the Empress’s silhouette disappear, slightly tilting her head, and asked Mo Lan beside her, "It seems Her Majesty lacks heirs under her knee?"

Mo Lan thought for a moment and said, "Yes, but I heard there once was a Little Prince who passed away young."

"Oh?"

Mo Lan continued, "This is the Central Palace’s pain and hence, forbidden to discuss. Is there anything amiss, Princess Consort?"

"Nothing, let’s go!" Wufu merely found the Empress intriguing and couldn’t decipher her fully, hence asked casually.

Upon returning to the mansion, Ah Jiu had already returned and was in the East Side Room reading a book.

After being attended to by the maids, Wufu washed and changed before sitting beside him, taking the book from his hands and saying, "If you don’t feel like reading, then stop!"

You’re holding the book upside down, what nonsense are you doing!

"How did it go? Did Nanny Shui reveal anything?" Ah Jiu asked eagerly.

Wufu shook her head, recounting the events at Cining Palace, and concluded, "If I persist a bit, Nanny Shui might eventually yield, but I feel the Royal Mother isn’t the type to entertain such thoughts, rather she seems..."

She pursed her lips, refraining from saying more.

"What is it?" Ah Jiu knitted his brows.

Wufu glanced at him, saying, "I sense there’s an unspoken secret between them, which is why the Emperor is so on edge, not only due to his admiration for the Royal Mother."

Ah Jiu was stupefied.
