Doted By The Regent King

Chapter 1944 - 1882: Wufu Sneaks Away

Chapter 1944: Chapter 1882: Wufu Sneaks Away

Someone intends to harm Emperor Yan or make a big move during the Imperial Family’s sacrificial rites. Although all this is mere speculation without actual evidence, Ah Jiu dared not risk it. He summoned many people and issued numerous orders.

Wufu kept sitting behind the study’s screen, listening to various orders being conveyed. He only came out when the room was empty.

"It may not be as we think. If someone wishes him harm, who could it be?" Wufu asked.

"If we knew, we wouldn’t be in this situation, having to be cautious everywhere, unable to act freely!" Ah Jiu replied with a bitter smile.

Just by missing a batch of large fireworks did they suspect someone intended harm against His Majesty, and saying this out loud seems quite incredible and hard to believe.

Precisely because of this, the people who came to see Ah Jiu, though having received orders, were somewhat skeptical and reluctant to act according to his words, even raising doubts. After all, if something went wrong, consequences would follow—something Ah Jiu himself claimed full responsibility for.

It’s understandable that people don’t believe it; even Ah Jiu finds it hard to believe. If it weren’t for hearing from the Director of the Imperial Observatory about the fall of the Emperor Star, he probably wouldn’t have associated it with that issue.

Now, even with slightly more information than others, even if it strings together, he can’t be certain that it’s truly as they imagine.

"Could it be an insurrection by someone from the Former Dynasty?" Wufu pondered. "Or perhaps the Empress? Isn’t it still unclear who is backing her?"

Ah Jiu furrowed his brow: "If it is her, could it only be for revenge? She’s been under house arrest in Kunning Palace recently."

"How about I go to the Imperial Jue Temple to take a look?" Seeing the scene firsthand would better prepare them for what might happen and how to respond.

Ah Jiu refused without a thought: "No way!" As Wufu glanced over, he added, "The situation isn’t clear, you can’t go risking yourself."

"What’s so risky about it? I’ll just watch from afar," Wufu laughed. "Besides, when the Emperor leaves the palace, the security must be extremely tight. Don’t worry too much!"

When an emperor travels, there are overt and covert protections aplenty; wouldn’t people realize? If someone managed to attack him, has Emperor Yan maintained his throne all these years merely by luck?

"Listen to me!" Ah Jiu glared at her.

Wufu pursed her lips, noticing the dark circles under his eyes, she said, "Then you listen too; you haven’t slept all night, look at the dark circles under your eyes."

Ah Jiu was tired. Now he just awaited the outcome. With nothing much to do, he said: "I’ll go take a bath."

A whole night without sleep left Ah Jiu soaked in warm water, feeling sore and relaxed, and he truly fell asleep upon hitting the bed.

Wufu had the maids keep their voices low, forbidding them from disturbing him. She then summoned Mo Lan: "Go call Xiao Qi, have Chi Liu prepare, we’re heading to Imperial Jue Temple."

Mo Lan frowned: "Is the Princess Consort heading out? Should we notify Guard Su for a trusted aide escort?"

She was unaware that Ah Jiu had forbidden Wufu from going to the Imperial Jue Temple.

"No need, just a few of us will quietly go."

Sometimes, having fewer people is more convenient than more.

She didn’t deliberately intend to go against Ah Jiu’s wishes; she merely wanted to go and watch the spectacle.

Seeing her determined, Mo Lan went off to make arrangements.

In a moment, a simple carriage departed from the side gate of Prince Jin’s Mansion, heading towards the Imperial Jue Temple.
