Chapter 1965: Chapter 1903: Revealing the Trump Card
Empress Song saw that smile on Emperor Yan’s face, and every hair on her body stood on end as her heart thudded wildly.
"Empress, you take Me for a fool and toy with Me, and you’re very pleased with yourself, aren’t you!" Emperor Yan chuckled. That smile never reached his eyes. He looked to Commander Zhao and ordered, "Gouge out Lu Shenxing’s eyes and present them to the Empress."
"Yes." Commander Zhao turned and left.
"Your Majesty!" Empress Song’s gaze was filled with terror. He—he had gone mad.
"What are you afraid of? When you plotted against the imperial heir and against Me, hadn’t you already thought this far?" Emperor Yan smiled faintly.
"Your concubine did not; your concubine has been wronged!"
Emperor Yan barked, "Lady Song, I am not here to listen to your excuses! You think I truly believed you were wronged and hauled you in just to give you a chance to explain? Cough, cough..."
Empress Song shut her mouth and stared at him.
"I am no fool!" Emperor Yan’s chilly gaze coiled around her like a cold venomous serpent.
"So? Your Majesty has decided it was your concubine and is going to execute your concubine? Is this really about that matter, or are you covering something else up?" Empress Song let out a dry laugh, then glanced at Ah Jiu, who stood silently to the side, and sneered, "Prince Jin has come to an understanding with Your Majesty as well!"
Ah Jiu lowered his eyes and said nothing.
"Regicide and defiance of the throne, plotting to harm the imperial heir—such crimes warrant extermination of the nine clans!" Emperor Yan said coldly. "Speak. When did you begin your move? Where is the antidote?"
If he could live, Emperor Yan had no wish to die!
He did not want to!
"Your concubine does not understand what Your Majesty is talking about!" Empress Song stubbornly turned her head aside. "Your concubine does not know any Lu Shenxing. Your concubine has been framed by traitors. May Your Majesty discern the truth clearly!"
"Good. Very good!" Emperor Yan laughed coldly, almost beside himself with rage.
"Your Majesty." Commander Zhao returned, holding a box in his hands.
Empress Song caught sight of it and her whole body trembled; her lips began to quiver.
"Show the Empress." Emperor Yan closed his eyes.
Commander Zhao immediately stepped in front of Empress Song and opened the box.
"No, no, don’t come over here, don’t come over here!" Empress Song kept retreating, fear making her heart quake violently as her hands flailed in panic.
Smack!
The box was knocked from her hand, and the bloody eyeballs rolled out, landing by her feet.
The thick stench of blood churned Empress Song’s stomach. She lowered her head and saw one eyeball staring straight up at her. She couldn’t help but scream, "Aaahhh... urgh!"
She gagged and vomited in one heave. Seeing that eyeball again, her own eyes rolled back and she went limp, collapsing to the ground.
"Wake her up." Emperor Yan watched expressionlessly.
Commander Zhao did not hesitate. He fetched a basin of snow from outside and splashed it across Empress Song’s face.
Empress Song jolted awake with a shriek, scrambling up. The snow slid down from her neck into her collar, freezing her so badly she hugged her arms, shuddering; her face turned pale in an instant.
Emperor Yan looked at her with disgust and said, "Draft the decree: Lady Song Qingyi, once bathed in Imperial Grace and exalted as Empress, has nevertheless heeded the words of sycophants, formed factions for private gain, lost all womanly virtue, plotted against the imperial heir, and deceived and defied her sovereign. She is unfit to preside over the Central Palace. Strip her of the Empress title, reclaim the Golden Book and Imperial Seal, demote her to commoner and banish her to the Cold Palace. Confiscate the dukedom of Duke Chengen and exterminate her nine clans..."
"Your concubine has been wronged, your concubine has never plotted to harm the imperial heir! Your concubine is willing to confront that person face to face. Your Majesty, you must not do this!" Empress Song screamed in panic. "Your Majesty, you must not!"
"I must not?"
Empress Song said, "Your concubine is with child!" She took several steps forward, fixing her eyes on Emperor Yan’s. "Your Majesty, your concubine is pregnant. This is your only Legitimate Son, and the only one who can be chosen as Crown Prince in future!"
Everyone froze, their gazes dropping to her belly.
Empress Song lifted her chin slightly, both hands caressing her lower abdomen as she looked at Emperor Yan. This was her greatest trump card.
A trump card is only revealed at the very end.
Emperor Yan’s gaze fell to her belly. "My Legitimate Son?"
"Exactly!" Empress Song said. "Your Majesty may summon the imperial physicians to take my pulse!"
