After sending off the two Consort Lan, Wufu stood up and went to the small compartment behind the Warm Pavilion, where Empress Dowager Mo was sitting, smiling at her.

Wufu saluted her and said, "Royal Mother, when did you come over?"

Wufu was silent for a moment and then said, "If I say I don’t wish for it, would Royal Mother think I lack ambition?"

Empress Dowager Mo laughed, "What’s the harm in that? People have different aspirations. Some girls would rather choose a young man from a common family than enter the palace as a consort; it’s the same logic. Ah Jiu nodded and, apologetically to Wufu, said, "Wufu, I..."

"Don’t say it. I’ve said it before; wherever you go, I’ll be there. It doesn’t matter if we can’t go now; there will be a time when we can, and then we can travel everywhere," Wufu said with a smile.

"I promise you, I’ll take you wherever I go," Ah Jiu said, gripping her hand tightly.

Wufu playfully said, "Then let Royal Mother be the witness, or you’ll be breaking your promise."

Empress Dowager Mo shook her head, but felt somewhat gratified in her heart. They both thought the same way, luckily so; if one loved power while the other did not, there would have been much contention between them.

Harmony between husband and wife is always good for the next generation, and for each other.
