Chapter 2033: Chapter 15: Return to Familiar Grounds
Accompanied by Xiao Qi once again, Wufu recuperated in the Ancient Tomb for another day to regain some strength before leaving.
Borrowing someone else’s sacred place to give birth, Wufu tactfully refrained from disturbing their tomb. Before departure, she knelt on the ground holding Little Bun and kowtowed three times towards the coffin as a gesture of gratitude.
Overall, the condition of the mother and child was not especially good, but they were alive, and that was more important than anything.
Xiao Qi first skillfully climbed out of the Ancient Tomb, then, following Wufu’s instructions, grabbed some vines and tied them into a vine rope. Wufu used Xiao Qi’s clothes as a sling to strap Little Bun to her chest. With the vine rope tied around her waist, and with Xiao Qi’s help—one pulling, the other tugging—they expended considerable effort to finally emerge from the high cave of the Ancient Tomb.
Once out of the cave, the already weak Wufu looked pale, and fine sweat appeared on her forehead.
"Master." Xiao Qi stepped forward, looking somewhat helplessly at Wufu, then at Little Bun, and said, "Should I carry him?"
Wufu wanted to refuse but, seeing her slightly trembling hands and feet, she untied the child and secured him onto Xiao Qi, instructing, "Xiao Qi, if any sudden incidents occur, you must protect my son and leave, don’t worry about me."
She feared those men were not yet deterred.
Xiao Qi’s heart tightened, and meeting Wufu’s gaze, he nodded heavily.
He looked down, and the little guy in his arms had somehow woken up, meeting his gaze with open eyes, yawning, the little pink-white mouth stretching, and then licking his lips.
Xiao Qi’s heart inexplicably softened, and his usually stern and silent face relaxed considerably, corners of his mouth curling up slightly—this was a little master more important than his own life.
"Let’s go." Wufu glanced at the position of the sun and took the lead to move forward.
Carefully cradling the little one in his arms, Xiao Qi followed along.
...
They traveled by day, rested by night, and by the second day, it was already the sixth day since Wufu had given birth.
Having just given birth, her body hadn’t been well nursed; Wufu’s face was pale and haggard, her lower body sticky and uncomfortable to the extreme.
Fortunately, no one had followed them. Wufu made discreet markers along the way and continued downhill along the mountain stream and waterfall.
On the seventh day, Wufu stood on a small hill, her expression unusually strange.
"Master?" Xiao Qi approached, his face full of questions.
Wufu carefully confirmed their location, glanced at him, and said, "If I’m not mistaken, we’ve reached the end."
Xiao Qi looked at the dense forest they were in, not quite understanding.
Wufu surveyed the front, the corner of her mouth lifting—if she remembered correctly, this was where she first met Ah Jiu.
How strange it was to end up here.
"Let’s go." Arriving at a familiar place, Wufu’s heart inexplicably relaxed.
Three Shichen Chinese Time later, Wufu stood silently before some ruins.
"Master." Xiao Qi glanced at the village below, smoke emerging from chimneys, and felt excited. With people around, both Master and Little Master could take a rest.
"This is where I lived when I first arrived," Wufu kicked at a half-burnt piece of wood at her feet.
Xiao Qi rarely exclaimed, "Ah?"
A place where Master had lived?
Wufu’s mouth curled slightly. Indeed, what a marvelous mountain range and what a marvelous fate. She had left here years ago, only for life to bring her back.
When she left, she was a young girl not yet reaching the age of marriage; now, returning here, she was a wife and mother!
Gazing at the sparsely smoking hamlet, Wufu sighed softly, lamenting the passage of years and the changes over time.
