Chapter 2036: Side Story 18: Milk Is Mother

Old Lady Zhou’s words made Wufu pause and look at Lady Liang.

She had become much more plump compared to before. Perhaps because life had gotten better, her complexion was rosy, fully displaying a wealthy look, and her features had become more kind and gentle, with a bulging chest.

Wufu couldn’t help but glance at herself. Over the years, she lived comfortably and maintained herself well. She had developed quite nicely, but compared to Lady Liang, it was truly like a small mountain confronted with a big one, incomparable.

Seeing her look over, Lady Liang blushed slightly and said, "I just had another daughter, she’s only four months old and hasn’t been weaned."

So that’s why.

"Don’t talk anymore, the child is crying so hard he might choke! Hurry up and feed him," Old Lady Zhou interrupted them, seeing the little guy cry with a red face and bulging veins, feeling a bit displeased.

Lady Liang hesitated slightly. She didn’t care, but was afraid Wufu wouldn’t want to, considering her status was different from theirs now. It was said that wealthy households were very cautious about finding a wet nurse.

Wufu, however, handed the child over without a hint of hesitation: "Aunt, if you’re willing, please grant this child a bite to eat. He won’t forget your kindness in giving him a meal in the future."

"Oh, look at you! Talking about granting. In fact, I’m this child’s Aunt too. Oh, you poor little darling." Lady Liang took the child, unbuttoning more skillfully than Wufu and feeding him with adept ease.

The scent of milk led Little Bun to snuggle up without a hint of defense, like a little pig searching for food and sucking earnestly.

"Little darling, you’re really strong." Lady Liang gently patted Little Bun.

Wufu breathed a huge sigh of relief. Since the child was born, she had been the only one to feed him. She was particularly worried that Little Bun would be picky and refuse others’ milk, but now her worries proved unnecessary.

When starving, do you pick what to eat?

As for Lady Liang’s concern that she might not want others to feed him, Wufu didn’t think that way. Survival is instinctual. When someone is starving, why pick and choose? Just staying alive is good enough, and for a child, whoever has milk is mother.

Of course, they should be clean and free from any hidden diseases.

Lady Liang, she trusts her.

"Madam, the hot water is ready," Tantan came in.

Lady Liang said to Wufu, "I’ve had them boil hot water. I noticed your appearance... Would you like to have a wash and freshen up?"

Wufu glanced at herself and nodded.

Old Lady Zhou then said, "Move the water to Madam’s room, place it in the bathtub, and have your mother bring two sets of Madam’s clothes for her to change into."

"Okay."

Wufu sat for a moment and then stood up: "Thank you."

She walked out and softly said to Xiao Qi, "You stay here and keep watch."

Although she trusted Lady Liang, years had passed since they last met, so she couldn’t guarantee anything. Little Bun is her life, someone must keep guard.

Xiao Qi nodded silently, standing at the door and watching inside vigilantly.

Wufu followed the maid called Tantan into Lady Liang’s room, taking a look around. It wasn’t overly adorned but felt very cozy, with a screen across and the bathtub inside.

Sister Gui, Tantan’s mother, a quiet and simple woman, placed a set of clean clothes on a nearby rack before withdrawing and closing the door.

Wufu quickly shed her clothes and glanced at her body covered with cuts and bruises, stepped into the bathtub, and soaked in the warm water, sighing contentedly.

She held the handkerchief, splashing water to cleanse herself. The warm water made her entire body limp, providing instant relief from the days of tight tension and vigilance, the fatigue set in, and Wufu drifted off in the water.
