Chapter 714: Chapter 565: Today, My Answer Is Still the Same
"Sister Liu Shui only loves the man I was in my past life," Xiao Mo said, shaking his head.
"But no matter how many times a person is reincarnated or their body is remade, their soul never changes."
Gui Junmeng walked up to Xiao Mo, so close he could almost feel the gentle rise and fall of her chest, as if she might touch him at any moment.
Her gaze was clear and resolute. "Whether it’s me, Sister Liu Shui, or Jing Ci, to us, you are you. No matter how many lifetimes pass, that will never change."
In the room, they stared into each other’s eyes. For a moment, neither of them spoke, and an indescribable silence filled the air.
Just as Xiao Mo was about to say something, a soft cough came from the courtyard. "Ahem... If you two are going to be so affectionate, you should at least close the door first."
Xiao Mo and Gui Junmeng turned in unison to see a woman in a Daoist Robe standing outside the door. She had an ethereal, otherworldly grace and watched them quietly, a faint smile playing on her lips.
"Master." Gui Junmeng’s cheeks flushed slightly as she hastily gave her master a respectful bow.
"Greetings, Temple Master." Xiao Mo also clasped his hands and bowed.
"Greetings, Young Master Xiao." Daoist Yun Xi gave a slight nod in return. She then turned to her disciple and said softly, "Jun Meng, I have a few things I’d like to discuss with Young Master Xiao alone. May I?"
"Yes, Master." Gui Junmeng straightened up and glanced at Xiao Mo beside her. "I’ll come find you later," she said softly.
Xiao Mo nodded, watching as Gui Junmeng turned to leave, her slender figure gradually disappearing around a corner of the courtyard.
"Young Master Xiao, do you happen to know about the situation between Jun Meng and Jing Ci?"
In the courtyard, Xiao Mo and Daoist Yun Xi sat facing each other as Daoist Yun Xi asked.
"Along the way, Miss Gui told me a great deal about my past life."
Xiao Mo nodded and continued.
"Miss Gui told me that she and Jing Ci are actually one and the same person, but their bloodline was split and their path to the Great Dao was divided. I need to cultivate the *Great Dream of Yellow Millet* and then dual-cultivate with her, so that they can both achieve the Great Dao together."
"Miss Gui also told me that if Jing Ci fails to achieve Ascension within a thousand years, she will face a calamity, and her soul will be utterly destroyed."
"And even knowing all this, you still came to the Seeking Immortal Temple?" Daoist Yun Xi gazed at Xiao Mo, her tone probing. "In your heart, who is more important, Jun Meng or Jing Ci? Are you truly willing to give up on Jing Ci and dual-cultivate with Jun Meng?"
Hearing Daoist Yun Xi’s question, Xiao Mo turned to meet her gaze directly, his expression calm and earnest. "May I ask, Daoist Yun Xi, did you not ask me this same question decades ago?"
"I did," Daoist Yun Xi confirmed with a nod.
"Then may I ask, Daoist, how did I answer back then?" Xiao Mo asked.
"You said that you wouldn’t let either of them die, whether it be Jun Meng or Jing Ci," Daoist Yun Xi recounted, each word as clear as if it had been spoken only yesterday.
Xiao Mo smiled faintly, his expression one of calm acceptance.
"My answer is the same today."
...
「The Demon Race’s World, Autumnwater City.」
In recent years, thanks to the mediation of the Seeking Immortal Temple, the Human Race had gradually set aside its internal conflicts to unite against the Demon Race.
The Human Race’s power and influence grew by the day, posing an unprecedented threat to the Demon Race.
The demons knew that if they continued their internal strife, the entire Demon Race would sooner or later be enslaved by the humans.
And so, the Tushan clan of the Nine-tailed Celestial Foxes stepped forward.
As the Alliance Hierarch of the Ten Thousand Demon Alliance, Tushan was the most powerful force in the Demon Race’s World. Much like the Seeking Immortal Temple did for the humans, they united the other major demon factions, concentrating their strength to confront the Human Race.
Thus, under Tushan’s leadership, the "Ten Thousand Demon Alliance" was disbanded, and in its place, a massive "Demon Alliance" arose.
Tushan acted like the royal family of the Demon Race’s World. Adopting a feudal system modeled after some dynasties in the World of Ten Thousand Laws, they allied with other major demon powers to suppress disobedient sects.
Tushan would grant titles and territories to Demon Cultivators who achieved great merit in battle.
To date, the Demon Alliance had established three battlefronts, splitting its army into three columns to confront humanity.
Autumnwater City was a key stronghold on one of these three fronts.
As a frontline city guarding a vital strategic point, numerous Sect Leaders and Sovereigns from the Demon Race’s sects and dynasties had gathered here to plot their grand strategy.
The nominal supreme commander of this great army was the Tushan Saintess—Tushan Jing Ci.
No one had any major objections to the Holy Daughter serving as commander.
After all, she was the future leader of Tushan and had already displayed astonishing talent.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, reaching the Ascension Realm would be a simple matter for her.
Not to mention, she had the backing of Tushan Meng, and her grandfather was the great Gui Ning himself.
However, Tushan Jing Ci had never shown much interest in fighting the Human Race. Forget killing Human Race Cultivators—in all her years here, she had rarely even visited the front lines.
Most of the demon Sect Leaders and Sovereigns were understanding, however. After all, it was long rumored that her former beloved had been a human, so it was only natural for her to harbor some affinity for his race.
Besides, they didn’t want Tushan Jing Ci meddling too much in the army’s affairs anyway.
As a result, the Autumnwater City army was actually under the command of Song Lin, the Sovereign of the Qian Yuan Nation.
However, on this very day, as Song Lin and the other generals were in the mansion discussing strategy and planning an attack on a human town...
...a woman walked into the City Lord’s Mansion, her hands clasped before her. She moved with an unhurried, deliberate gait, long legs striding beneath her robes.
"Greetings, Holy Daughter."
Upon seeing Tushan Jing Ci, they all bowed respectfully, not daring to show the slightest discourtesy.
But they couldn’t help but wonder: ’Why has the Holy Daughter, who hasn’t visited in years, suddenly appeared today?’
Tushan Jing Ci didn’t spare them a glance, walking straight to the head seat of the main hall.
As Tushan Jing Ci brushed past them, the generals’ hearts seized. They felt an utterly terrifying chill wash over them.
It felt as if she could have them beheaded with a single thought.
The woman reached the head of the hall, turned, and sat down, her fox-like eyes sweeping over everyone present.
"What are the current plans for the Demon Army in Autumnwater City?" Tushan Jing Ci asked coldly, her voice like biting frost.
"To answer the Holy Daughter."
Song Lin, Sovereign of the Qian Yuan Nation, stepped forward and bowed to Tushan Jing Ci.
"Some of the generals feel that attacking the human city of Zangying is a good option. However, I believe that if we were to take the human’s Martial God Sect, we could control their right flank. This would give us the flexibility to advance or retreat as needed, though the risks are greater. We are currently deliberating."
In Song Lin’s mind, the Holy Daughter was probably just here for a routine check-in, going through the motions so she would have something to report back to Tushan Meng.
He never expected Tushan Jing Ci’s next words to make his head snap up.
"There is no need for further discussion." Tushan Jing Ci shook her head, her tone admitting no argument. "Relay my order. Tomorrow, the army marches on the Seeking Immortal Temple!"
"But... Holy Daughter, the Seeking Immortal Temple is a formidable power, and it’s located in a treacherous, well-defended position. If we march on them now, I fear..."
"Silence!"
Tushan Jing Ci cut him off without a shred of courtesy.
An immense, overwhelming pressure instantly flooded the entire hall.
Cold sweat beaded on everyone’s foreheads, and no one dared to meet her gaze.
’How is this possible?’
Everyone was shocked to their core, their faces masks of utter disbelief.
As far as they knew, the Tushan Saintess had only just reached the Jade Realm ten years ago.
But now... this was clearly the pressure of the Immortal Realm!
’What in the world did the Tushan Saintess go through?!’
’How could she possibly have entered the Immortal Realm in just ten short years?!’
"I have spoken!"
Tushan Jing Ci’s voice was laced with killing intent.
"Level it! The Seeking Immortal Temple!"
