Chapter 379: Going for the Final Testing

Instructor Tang was currently standing on top of the duelling stage and was looking at the two groups of candidates who were standing below the stage.

One consisted of only nine candidates, while the other consisted of ninety-one.

Turning towards the larger group, he said, "I don’t need to emphasise the areas each one of you fell short, for I neither have the time nor the desire to do so.

However, the fact that you were able to make it this far already makes you few among the many cultivators who could reach this point in the entire White Jade Kingdom.

For those of you for whom this was your last attempt, I believe you would already have a backup plan in your minds; do that and don’t fret about the past for too long.

As he said that, Instructor Tang gestured with his hands towards Yi Chen and the rest before continuing, "I’ll be more than happy to see each one of you wearing our sect’s robes in the future, for there has never been a limitation to the number of candidates we can select. It all depends on whether you meet our requirements or not.

"Y-Yes!"

All ninety-one of them shouted in unison. Various emotions were brewing inside all of their hearts, but one desire was constant in most of their hearts. The desire to never experience this feeling of failure.

Seeing the changes in the crowd, Instructor Tang nodded his head and said, "Good. Follow me outside then, everyone."

With that said, Instructor Tang walked down the stage, gesturing for both groups to follow after him towards the giant circular array that was etched onto the ground at the end of the chamber.

’I wonder just how deep inside the ground we actually are...’ Yi Chen muttered inwardly, looking up at the muddy ceiling from inside the formation.

If not for the ceiling, they would not have even realised that they all were under the ground all this while.

Just then, the entire array started glimmering with bright blue light, and the next second, everyone’s vision turned white.

A second later, when the feeling of light-headedness disappeared, they found themselves inside a large room.

"Greetings, Instructor Tang."

An elder who had been waiting outside the array formation greeted Instructor Tang the moment they appeared outside.

"Elder Tao." Instructor Tang nodded towards him with a smile.

Taking a few steps forward, he said, while gesturing towards the candidates who were standing behind him, "Only nine were selected this time, so I’ll be depending upon you to guide the rest of them outside the sect."

’Only nine...’ Elder Tao pursed his lips for a moment while resisting his urge to let out a sigh before nodding, "I understand."

With that said, he instructed the unsuccessful candidates to follow him outside. As a result, a few seconds later, only nine candidates were standing inside the room.

Scanning all nine of their faces for a second, Instructor Tang said, "Congratulations to the nine of you for making it this far. However, do know that the final test still remains.

You might have already heard from your peers about the final test and would know by now how difficult it is to clear it.

However, as the instructor who assessed you in the second test, I would be more than happy to see all nine of you become a part of our sect.

Therefore, before I guide you to the final testing hall, here’s a final tip from my side. When confused, do what your heart says, as that’s where a cultivator’s courage stems from."

’Do what my heart says...’ Yi Chen and the rest repeated the words in their minds as the nervousness welling inside them subsided a little.

Seeing that they had stabilised a little, Instructor Tang nodded and gestured for the nine of them to follow him.

"Come. The test will begin in half an hour’s time."

With that said, the ten of them walked out of the room into a wide corridor which was lined with several other similar rooms on both sides.

The sound of doors opening and closing kept ringing in their ears.

"The others are also almost finished with their tests by now, so you might see your fellow test mates along the way," Instructor Tang said while guiding them out of the hall.

Just like he had said, they saw several groups coming out of different rooms as they were making their way towards the exit.

Many held deflated expressions and were being guided out of the sect, while a few were harbouring a bright or a nervous expression, just like the nine of them.

However, because of the presence of Elders, none dared to initiate a conversation.

A while later, they exited the corridor, as the bright blue sky brightened their moods.

Turning around, Yi Chen momentarily glanced at the building which had led them to the underground chamber earlier. The following words were neatly written on the wooden plaque on top of it.

’Weapon Testing Area’

’They really invested a lot of resources in our recruitment...’ Yi Chen momentarily thought to himself before following Instructor Tang deeper inside the sect.

Feeling the warmth of the sun after fifteen long days made them all feel refreshed as the next testing hall soon entered their vision.

"That is the building inside which your final testing is going to take place along with all the other candidates," Instructor Tang’s words entered their ears as they entered through the gates on top of which the building’s name was clearly stated.

"Cloud Hall..."

Yi Chen muttered under his breath, making his way inside.
