Chapter 431: Confinement
"Brother Chen! You..." Zhou Mei exclaimed as she arrived next to Yi Chen along with others, but was at a loss for words the moment their eyes met.
’If it wasn’t for me, there would have been no need for Brother Chen to engage with Huo Xun. It’s all my fault...’
She thought, guilt welling up inside her, which made it difficult for her to console Yi Chen, for the reason for his current predicament was she herself.
It was at that moment that she was reminded of the tidbits from Yi Chen’s exchange with Huo Xun, which she managed to hear along the way, and continued.
"B-Brother Chen, rest assured! You don’t need to worry about your contribution points. I’ll do as many missions as possible in this period and will give half of my contribution points to you!"
Zhou Mei’s eyes shone with determination as she said those words.
"This..." Yi Chen was about to say that there was no need for her to push herself so much, as he was more than capable of managing things for himself.
However, before he could say those words, he was cut off by Dong Yun, Qin Yao and the rest, who also promised zealously the very next moment.
"Count me in as well! I’ll also give half my contribution points to Brother Chen!"
"Same here, Brother Chen! Instead of half, I’m even ready to give all my contribution points if need be, so don’t worry at all!"
"It’s only natural for us to help you, Brother Chen. So, rest assured!"
.
.
.
Hearing Qin Yao, Zhou Mei, Feng Min and the rest bombard him with promises one after the other with such fervent eyes, Yi Chen had no choice but to swallow what he was about to say.
"Then... Thank you, everyone." Yi Chen said with a grateful smile and wanted to say a few more things, but the Enforcement Hall disciples responsible for taking him to the confinement chamber didn’t let that happen.
"That’s enough talking. Keep moving."
One of them nudged Yi Chen to keep moving while preventing Zhou Mei and the rest from getting any closer.
As a result, Yi Chen had no choice but to move away.
"See you guys after a week then." He waved his hand with a subtle smile and continued to walk forward while being guided by the Enforcement Hall disciples.
"Take care, Brother Chen!"
"It’s only a week, Brother Chen. You’ll definitely be able to push through it!"
.
.
.
Those well-intentioned words from behind brought a smile to Yi Chen’s face as he was being guided to the interior of the building.
’Looks like this Confinement Chamber is inside the Enforcement Hall building.’ He thought as he continued walking forward.
A while later, he was made to go down several flights of stairs before finally arriving inside a vast basement.
’So, this is where it is...’ Yi Chen thought as he soon reached the reception where a few other Inner Sect Disciples were keeping watch.
"So, he’s the new entry. Frisk his body properly to see if he has anything hidden on his body and collect his storage ring once you’re done." The Inner Sect Disciple, who seemed to be in charge, said to his subordinate before looking towards Yi Chen.
"Your storage ring will be returned to you once you’re out. As for the items inside, you need not worry, for this place is under surveillance 24/7. So, your items won’t go missing."
With that said, he was about to gesture for his subordinate to start frisking Yi Chen, but just then he felt a buzzing sound coming out of a stone that was kept on the table beside him.
"Yes?"
Picking up the Voice Transmission Stone, he responded the very next instant.
"It’s me." A familiar voice came from the stone, causing the Disciple in charge to immediately stand at attention as he responded, "Yes, Elder Jao Tian! It’s Disciple Chu Feng this side!"
"Yes, Chu Feng." Elder Jao Tian nodded from the other side when he heard the name and continued, "Has the disciple who was sentenced just now arrived there? His name was Yi Chen."
"Yes, Elder Jao! He has just arrived, and after his frisking is completed, we’ll take his storage ring as per the rules and contain him in one of the confinement chambers as per your ruling." Disciple Chu Feng answered in a well-disciplined manner.
"I see. There were some additional changes which I didn’t write on the sentence sheet. You don’t need to confiscate his storage ring, and neither do you need to frisk him.
Just send him in one of the confinement chambers as he is and ensure that he stays there for the next seven days. You understand?"
Elder Jao Tian instructed the very next moment.
"This..." Hearing such an instruction, which was very unlike Elder Jao Tian, Chu Feng couldn’t help but hesitate as his mind turned muddled.
’Why would Elder Jao Tian suddenly make such a request? Isn’t he someone who always stood by the rules? Then why... Could it be that this disciple has a special identity which we are not aware of?’ Chu Feng thought with furrowed brows while looking at Yi Chen.
"I asked, do you understand?!"
Not getting a response, Elder Jao Tian immediately raised his voice in irritation and asked.
"Y-Yes, Elder Jao! I’ll do as you’ve instructed!" Chu Feng answered in panic the moment he realised that he had been keeping Elder Jao Tian waiting while thinking, ’Since it’s Elder Jao, then there must be a reason. As a disciple under him, I must carry out his instructions.’
"Do that."
With that said, Elder Jao Tian put away his stone as the glow in the Voice Transmission stone disappeared.
Seeing this, Chu Feng let out a sigh before glancing towards his subordinate who was about to frisk Yi Chen.
"Instructions from above. No frisking and confiscation of his items are required. Just guide him as he is to the Confinement Chamber, you understand?" Chu Feng said the very next moment, to everyone’s surprise.
"What are you still staring at?! Do what I just said!" He roared in annoyance, seeing their confused expressions, as he too was unable to understand what was going on, and rushed them to take Yi Chen away.
’Just what the hell is going on in here?’ Yi Chen thought in confusion while observing the Inner Sect Disciple’s actions, which didn’t seem to make any sense, as he was soon taken to his designated confinement chamber.
Meanwhile, in Elder Jao Tian’s personal office.
Putting away his Voice Transmission Stone, he looked at a figure that was standing next to the window as his fingertips gently nudged the small flowers that were grown in a pot.
"Are you satisfied?" Elder Jao Tian said, letting out a snort as he glared at the other party.
"Yes, I’ll owe Elder Jao Tian a favour from now on. Whatever it is that you desire, I’ll help you with it. Alright?" Elder Yu Xong turned towards him the very next moment and said with a breathtaking smile.
The moment Elder Jao Tian saw this, his face momentarily turned red, making him flustered.
"Y-You dirty bastard! Quit playing those feminine tricks of yours in front of me and get out of here if you’re done!
I don’t even understand why you’re going through such lengths to help a newly admitted disciple in the first place.
Just because he possesses a peak-grade spirit root doesn’t mean that we’ll lift that brat up above our heads. We are the greatest sect in the entire Kingdom, and doing such acts will only negatively affect our image!"
Elder Jao Tian burst out, seeing Elder Yu Xong’s deliberate teasing, and along with his anger, poured out all his misgivings.
"Hohoho," Elder Yu Xong chuckled at his response and commented, "Elder Jao Tian, you shouldn’t be such a stickler for rules. At times, they need to be bent...Anyways, you have my thanks."
Elder Yu Xong waved his hand at him and started walking toward the door.
Seeing this, Elder Jao Tian rolled his eyes and said, "You still haven’t answered my question, you know? Just why would you go so far? If not for your request, I would have given him an entire month of confinement for addressing an Elder in such a disrespectful manner."
Hearing that question once again, the subtle smile on Elder Yu Xong’s face widened as he walked right past the door, and his trailing voice entered Elder Jao Tian’s ears.
"Let’s just say that someone I look up to has taken an interest in that boy."
"Someone you look up to?" Elder Jao Tian’s eyes couldn’t help but turn curious when he heard those words, but Elder Yu Xong’s figure had long disappeared before he could ask any follow-up questions.
...
CLANG!
A metallic door was slid open, and Yi Chen was pushed inside the very next moment.
"You’ll be staying here for the next seven days. Food will be served only once. That’s all."
With that said, the disciple closed the door the very next moment, leaving Yi Chen in complete darkness.
"This place... it reeks of shit."
Yi Chen muttered while covering his nose with his hand.
