I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 433: Pill Hall

Chapter 433: Pill Hall

"Pill Refining? I didn’t think Brother Chen was a studious type." Senior Sister Yun Xi said with an amused smile when she heard about his occupation.

"Well, after pondering over it for these seven days, I just found that it was the most suitable option for me." Yi Chen answered the next second.

"That’s good to hear." Yun Xi nodded in an appreciative manner when she heard this and continued, "In my batch, there were quite a few who changed their occupations after one year.

They had haphazardly chosen their occupations when given the chance and ended up regretting it within the first month. However, because of the sect’s rules, they had to wait for an entire year in order to apply for a different occupation hall.

Therefore, even though you’ve been late by seven days, look at it as a boon, Junior Brother, as you received more time than the rest of your batchmates to make up your decision." Yun Xi said in an attempt to cheer Yi Chen up, as he was the only one left because of his special situation.

"I’ll keep Senior Sister’s words in mind. Thank you." Yi Chen thanked her with a grateful smile, seeing the genuine intention behind her words, even though he wasn’t disappointed by this delay at all.

The next moment, he turned towards Qin Yao and asked, "What about you? Which occupation have you chosen?"

"I..." Qin Yao’s eyes turned towards Feng Min next, with a little embarrassment evident in them as he answered, "Well, I decided to take Talisman Array together with Feng Min."

"I see." Yi Chen nodded his head while glancing towards Feng Min, who subtly nodded back with a little blush evident on her face.

’Well... if she’s with him, then he’ll have enough motivation to keep going, so that doesn’t matter.’ Thinking along those lines, he looked back at him and said with a nod, "Good. Work hard then."

"Yes, Brother Chen!" Qin Yao exclaimed with a cheery smile as the subtle guilt he felt in not taking the same occupation as Yi Chen vanished the very next moment.

However, that wasn’t the case with everyone.

"B-Brother Chen..." Dong Yun called from the side the very next moment.

"Mhm?"

Yi Chen turned his head towards Dong Yun only to see an apologetic expression on his face.

"I-I actually thought that you would be interested in applying for Array Formations and thus joined the Formation Hall at that time..." Dong Yun stated the next moment with a bitter smile and continued, "However, Brother Chen, you can rest assured! I’ll make sure to switch to pill refining by next year and accompany yo-"

Before he could finish, he saw Yi Chen patting him on the shoulder the next second as his words entered his ears, "There’s no need for you to join the same occupation as me, Brother Dong. Instead, just study hard and gain as much knowledge as you can in array formations starting now.

In the future, when I’m in need of a reliable Formation Master, then I’ll come looking for you."

Yi Chen stated with a smile in order to change Dong Yun’s mind. He didn’t want him to waste an entire year on something like this, which, according to Yi Chen, was a complete waste of time.

"This..."

A contemplative expression instantly formed on Dong Yun’s face the moment he heard those words as his eyes began to brighten in realisation. "Yes, Brother Chen! I’ll do exactly that then!"

"Mhm." Yi Chen nodded in acknowledgement and said, addressing all of them the next moment, "Lastly, even though I’ve accepted your contribution points this time, I won’t be doing the same next time."

"But Brother Chen-" Zhou Mei was the first one who was about to argue, but before she could start, Yi Chen raised his palm and gestured for her to stop before stating, "Especially you, Zhou Mei."

His eyes narrowed the moment his eyes met hers as he continued, "Don’t you need to study for the Imperial Heir Ceremony test that’s in six months? I bet you were so focused on doing as many missions as possible this week that you didn’t even pay attention to reading those books now, did you?"

"This..."

Seeing Yi Chen hit the nail right on the head, Zhou Mei couldn’t help but be at a loss for words, not finding any way to counter.

Meanwhile, when Yi Chen saw this, he didn’t wait for her to reply and kept going, "If you want to get my help later on in the second test, then you better start focusing on studying rather than the missions from now on, as I’m more than capable of handling my current situation. You understand?"

"Y-Yes...Brother Chen, I understand." Zhou Mei answered while pouting her lips indignantly, for she only wanted to help Yi Chen in the end.

Addressing everyone else, the next moment he said, "You guys heard me, right? It’s the same with you. You better focus on yourself instead of wasting your time and efforts on something unnecessary, you understand?

Otherwise, I’ll personally issue a challenge letter against you and teach you a lesson in front of..."

It was only when Yi Chen was fully convinced that they wouldn’t be sending him their contribution points again that he stopped before finishing his meal.

With that done, he soon went back to the residential quarters together with Qin Yao and Dong Yun and finally entered his room.

’My bed... I really missed you.’

He thought the moment his eyes fell on his bed that looked the most inviting it ever did. However, not wanting to dirty those clean sheets, he forced himself not to jump on it the very next moment and instead went to the bathroom to freshen up.

’Finally... a proper bath after days,’ Yi Chen thought with a relaxing smile as cold water soon trickled down his skin, enveloping his body with the freshness it had been deprived of in that dark, humid chamber.

"I finally feel alive again..."

He let out a deep breath as he got out of the bathroom and muttered before making his way back to his room.

He had already finished today’s swordsmanship training, and it was the same with his cultivation practice. As for books on pill refining, they were already finished, which meant there was nothing left for him to do now: Sleep.

He launched himself onto his bed the moment he entered his room and covered himself with his fresh blanket gleefully.

’So comfortable...’

He muttered inwardly, his entire body starting to relax as he soon drifted into sleep.

After sleeping like a baby the entire night, he woke up completely refreshed and just sat cross-legged on his bed for a while in a daze.

"Two weeks huh..."

He muttered, realising that he had already spent two weeks in the sect, and in another two weeks he would need to go to the Ranking Hall and officially put up a request to challenge the bottom-ranked Inner Sect Disciple in the Azure Blue Rankings.

"Even though those three moves are very basic, practising them had indeed helped move my swordsmanship by a little in these past fourteen days..." he muttered to himself while glancing at his progress in these fourteen days.

[Expert Swordsmanship (Progress: 50689 -> 53,456 / 10,000,000)]

It didn’t seem like a lot, but relative to the fact that he had only been practising three basic moves, the progress was actually pretty significant at his level.

"Alright then...Let’s start the day."

Pushing himself off the bed, he soon got out of bed and freshened up. Later, after having breakfast together with everyone, he left towards the Pill Hall, which was almost a kilometre away and bordered the Sect’s Beast Ground.

"So, this is the Pill Hall, huh?" Yi Chen muttered while looking at a two-storey building that, although a little small in area compared to all the surrounding buildings, looked the most imposing.

’The structures next to it should be the various facilities which the Pill Hall provides...’ Yi Chen thought to himself while looking at the one-floor structure, which, although vast in area, had a very humble design.

"Since Pill Refining makes a lot of money, I was expecting all the buildings to look extravagant, so why..."

As if to answer Yi Chen’s question, a deafening explosion came from one of the buildings as a black object tore through a building’s room.

BOOM!

"Nooooo! My Pill!"

A weeping cry of an old man came from inside the building as soon as the black object, which had been launched towards the sky, fell back down.

KHUNK!

A piercing sound of metal rang all around as the broken metallic object half-buried itself in the ground the moment it struck it.

’This...just how heavy was it...’

Yi Chen thought in dismay as he waited for the dust to settle in order to understand just what the hell that object was.

He wasn’t the only one who wanted to check on that object, as an Inner Sect Disciple who was in his late seventies appeared right next to the crash point a second later and swept his arm in its direction.

ZOOOM!

The dust disappeared as if it never existed with a mere sweep of his arm as the view became clear.

’A...cauldron?’

Yi Chen muttered as he glanced at the half-broken black cauldron, which was riddled with holes.

"Fucking Goddammit! It’s ruined! My Pill! My Cauldron! Everything’s ruined!" The old man struck the cauldron in anger, turning it into powder, and exclaimed, "New Cauldron! I must get a new cauldron quickly!"

With that said, his figure disappeared the very next instant.

"...I guess I now know why the buildings have a humble design."

Yi Chen muttered the very next instant.
