Chapter 448: Clearing Doubt

Relishing in his success for another couple of seconds, he soon started shaping the precipitate into pills, with anticipation evident in his eyes.

’Since the pills formed now will be a success, won’t they give me a much larger share of experience points?’

He thought while shaping the lump of thick greenish precipitate in his hand into marble-sized pills one after another.

The moment the final pill was formed, the system notification rang out like usual, and naturally it was much different from earlier.

Ding! Congratulations on creating 10x Sleeping Crane Pills (Success): You earned 50 EXP!

"It really increased!" Yi Chen exclaimed in excitement the moment he saw the system’s notification, especially the fifty experience points that were clearly stated on it.

’That would mean I’ll be getting 5 EXP per Sleeping Crane Pill from now on, isn’t that right? And maybe if my efficacy further increases, then the experience points I’ll be receiving will also increase?’

He thought with a grin evident on his face as he pulled open the Pill Refining mission from his status panel the very next moment.

’Let’s see...’

===== MISSION ======

Objective: Refine 1000 Sleeping Crane Pills

Time Limit: None

Penalty: None

Reward: 50,000 EXP

Extra Information: Even failed pills will be counted.

Progress: 340 / 1000

====================

"340 pills means I still have 660 more pills to refine...that means at least 3,300 EXP to harvest, isn’t that right?"

The grin on his face only widened as he thought more about the experience points he would be receiving soon.

However, a yawn immediately made him return to his usual appearance as he muttered while stretching up his arms.

"Yawwwn...Yeah, it should almost be three in the morning now. I should sleep...especially because I need my spiritual energy to be back to its maximum..."

[Spiritual Sea: 152 /198.57 (Recovery: 8 hrs of Sleep)]

’Just refining one batch had made it drop by so much... but still that should be enough to refine at least three to four batches per day.’

With those thoughts in his mind, he soon went to the bathroom to take a late-night bath before crawling into his bed, as his breathing soon turned rhythmic, too exhausted to even stay awake for another couple of seconds.

Next Day.

"Greetings, Elder Ru Qi... It’s me, Outer Sect Disciple Yi Chen," Yi Chen said with an awkward smile the moment the line connected.

"Ah, so it’s Disciple Yi Chen. What is it? Do you want to visit me at the Seventh Peak and discuss your doubts?" Elder Ru Qi’s curious voice came from the Sound Transmission Stone in Yi Chen’s hands.

"Well, I do have a doubt, Elder Ru Qi, but would it be fine if we just discuss it through the Sound Transmission Stone? You must be busy, so I don’t want to hinder your schedule." Yi Chen replied the very moment.

"Haha, that’s very polite of you. You’re correct, I’m indeed a little busy today, so if you want to visit me, then you’ll only be able to come by tonight. Since I’m free for a few minutes, I can help answer your queries, so you should start hitting me with as many questions as you can in these short minutes, Disciple Chen."

Elder Ru Qi replied with a playful tone the very next moment.

A pleased smile instantly formed on Yi Chen’s face when he heard this, as he answered, "Thank you, Elder Ru Qi! The question that I have is..."

There was only one thing that was bothering Yi Chen at the moment, and it was also the reason why he had decided to contact Elder Ru Qi early in the morning.

" ...so, your concern is that even after adjusting the flames between the two extreme ranges, the Sleeping Crane Pills that you’re refining have yet to cross the 30% Efficacy rate, is that right?"

"Yes, Elder Ru Qi, that’s exactly the issue. I made sure to adjust it between-"

Yi Chen was about to give additional explanation, but before he could continue, he was cut off by Elder Ru Qi.

"Practice more."

"...What?"

"You heard me the first time, Disciple Chen. The problem you’re facing is something every pill refiner goes through at your level. What you’re struggling with is finding the optimum temperature range at which the pill refining would be a success, meaning its efficacy crosses 30%.

In order to do that, you need to constantly attempt the refining process again and again in order to find that sweet spot, and then only you’ll be able to refine your first successful pill."

As Elder Ru Qi said this, a smirk formed on her face as she continued, "However, refining the pill successfully is only half the battle..."

"This... What do you mean by that, Elder Ru Qi?" Yi Chen asked, confusion evident in his voice.

Hearing just the response she wanted to hear, the smirk on Elder Ru Qi’s face widened the very next moment as she continued, "What I’m trying to say is that even if the Pill is considered a success at 30% efficacy, will anyone be willing to use it, much less buy it? The obvious answer is no, they won’t.

The next step is an even more difficult one where you need to constantly analyse the temperature effects inside your cauldron and meet the optimum temperature that satisfies as many ingredients used in the pill creation as possible.

The closer you are to finding that optimum temperature, the higher will be your pill’s efficacy rate... However, that’s something you need to be concerned about only when you could masterfully control your spiritual Qi, so you need not worry too much about it."

A subtle chuckle escaped Elder Ru Qi’s lips as she said the next moment, "Though I’ve heard of a few geniuses that are able to use just their intuition alone to cross the 50% efficacy rate while being only at the Meridian Refinement Stage... of course talents like those are mostly concentrated in the top three kingdoms... a pity, isn’t it? Anyway, I believe I’ve answered your question now, Disciple Chen, haven’t I?"

"Y-Yes, Elder Ru Qi... thank you for your time." Yi Chen answered the very next moment.

"Alright. See you later then."

Elder Ru Qi disconnected the sound transmission that very moment and chuckled while looking at the Sound Transmission Stone on which her blurry face was being reflected.

"To be able to apply what you had just learnt so quickly and jump from a mere 10% to almost 25% in a day? Disciple Chen, will you be able to surprise me yet again?"

Elder Ru Qi grinned with a look of anticipation evident on her face.
