Chapter 1406: Myriad Devil Assembly

Chapter 1406: Myriad Devil Assembly

In Beichen Realm, Spiritual Infant cultivators sometimes took advantage of alliance gatherings to trade with one another, making them small-scale trade fairs of sorts.

But the Myriad Devil Assembly that gathered so many Spiritual Infant experts, presided over personally by a late-stage Spiritual Infant grandmaster, was something Qin Sang had never heard of before, and it piqued his interest.

"The list is only a small portion of what will be there, meant to draw attention. Even if you don't see any treasure you want on it, you'd best not miss the assembly. There's no harm in going. At worst, it's still a chance to mingle with fellow cultivators..." Valley Master Mu advised out of goodwill.

As they talked, the four of them flew another stretch through the seawater. Then Valley Master Mu and the other two suddenly stopped, turned their heads, and looked at Qin Sang with smiles, all wearing the expression of someone watching a good show.

"Daoist Master, have you not sensed anything unusual?" Valley Master Mu asked with a smile.

Baffled, Qin Sang looked around. The water was dim, and the icy currents flowing past his divine protective aura were all real. Everything seemed normal.

Then it hit him. He spun around to look behind him and said in surprise, "Don't tell me the entrance to Pure Sea Sect is here?"

Only then did Valley Master Mu reveal the answer, pointing back along the route they had come. "Daoist Master, do you remember what I told you before? We just passed through the array outside Pure Sea Sect. We're now on its other side."

"What?" At those words, Qin Sang's pupils constricted sharply as he stared hard at the water behind him.

Even while conversing with Valley Master Mu and the others, he had stayed vigilant the entire time, having long since roused the Sky-Eyed Butterfly and secretly activated its Sky Eyes supernatural ability.

Yet neither he nor the Sky-Eyed Butterfly had noticed a thing as they passed through the array. That stretch of water behind them looked no different from anywhere else!

Valley Master Mu had briefly recounted his experiences during this period, but Qin Sang had never expected the Pure Sea Sect's array to be so bizarre. No wonder they still hadn't managed to work out its nature.

Seeing the doubt on Qin Sang's face, Daoist Qi chuckled. "No need to find it strange, Daoist Master. Go back and forth through it a few times in a moment, observe carefully, and you'll realize what's off. To our eyes it's an ordinary stretch of water, and even passing through the array, everything feels completely normal. But it's all an illusion. The route we actually take doesn't match the one in our minds, as if space itself has been displaced or folded here. If I hadn't discovered the strange phenomenon beforehand and known this place was unusual, I wouldn't have noticed anything even after passing through the array myself."

Could it be a Mustard Seed Space?

But even Spiritual Infant cultivators had only the most superficial understanding of space. In the current world of immortal cultivation, refining a Mustard Seed Pouch was already the limit. How vast would a Mustard Seed Space have to be to house an entire sect?

Astonished, Qin Sang asked, "Daoist Qi, what sort of phenomenon did you witness back then?"

Daoist Qi pointed up toward the sea's surface. "A streak of crimson light shot toward the sky. There was no earthshaking fanfare, and it lasted only briefly, dissipating in less time than an incense stick takes to burn."

Nothing could be deduced from a phenomenon like that.

At Valley Master Mu's suggestion, Qin Sang tried a few more crossings. He turned and retraced their original route first, then switched to several other directions, passing back and forth seven or eight times.

It was exactly as Daoist Qi had said; no matter which direction he crossed from, the result was the same. No fluctuations could be felt here, and the array never attacked intruders. Had no one alerted him, Qin Sang would surely have passed this place by without a second glance.

He secretly ordered the Sky-Eyed Butterfly to exert its supernatural ability at full strength, but it found no trace of any illusion array.

Valley Master Mu then went in personally while Qin Sang observed from outside. At last he saw it. Not long after Valley Master Mu walked in, space seemed to warp for an instant, and the man abruptly appeared up ahead. The "displacement" itself showed no anomaly whatsoever; whoever was inside the array felt nothing at all. Once inside, the displacement struck without the slightest warning, leaving them nowhere to even begin.

The array did have boundaries. Viewed from above, it covered a roughly circular expanse hidden deep on the seabed, utterly negligible compared with the whole of Ethereal Sea.

Unless someone deliberately crossed through here with a companion watching closely from outside, it was all but impossible to detect.

One thing was certain: the array's purpose had to be protecting the secret of this place, the entrance to the Pure Sea Sect that Valley Master Mu had spoken of.

"Daoist Master, why not summon the Fire Jade Centipede and see whether it can sense the Myriad Spirit Fruit?" Valley Master Mu said expectantly.

Qin Sang nodded and opened his Mustard Seed Pouch. The Fire Jade Centipede flew onto his palm and sprawled there lazily. It had just consumed a Fire Smelting Pill and was still digesting the medicinal energy.

Qin Sang made several attempts with it, and just as expected, the Fire Jade Centipede showed no reaction at all. Valley Master Mu had followed close behind him, and the two were displaced out together. At the sight, disappointment crept over their faces.

Qin Sang, meanwhile, had split his attention to observe Valley Master Mu. Like his own, the man's gaze had remained clear and lucid, with no trace of daze or bewilderment. It seemed like the array's power did not affect the primordial spirit.

That made things thornier for Qin Sang. The Sky-Eyed Butterfly and the Jade Buddha, his two greatest trump cards, were both useless for breaking this array.

Still, it was too early to draw conclusions. If the array's power could be provoked into revealing itself, exposing the array in full, the Sky-Eyed Butterfly would surely have its chance to shine.

"What do you propose, Daoist Master?" Valley Master Mu looked at him.

Qin Sang hesitated a moment. "Give me three more days. If I can't come up with a way to break the array by then, we'll set up the Three-Spirit Coiling King Array."

"Very well!" Valley Master Mu nodded, and the three of them withdrew to the side to give Qin Sang space.

Three days later, Qin Sang was still at a complete loss. He sought out Valley Master Mu and agreed to set up the insect array. Overjoyed, Valley Master Mu and the others immediately began preparing the altar.

As agreed, Valley Master Mu first passed the secret techniques of the Spirit Elevation Rite and the Three-Spirit Coiling King Array to Qin Sang.

"Gasp! So many things to prepare!"

Qin Sang looked first at the Spirit Elevation Rite he had been longing for, and was startled on the spot by the spiritual objects it required. The list was crammed with dozens of them!

Then again, the Spirit Elevation Rite could raise a spiritual insect's cultivation by an entire level out of thin air. How could it be any ordinary thing? During the elevation, the power that stimulated the spiritual insect's potential came partly from its master and partly from external objects.

Fortunately, most of the items fell short of the rare treasure grade. But some would take real effort to gather even for a Spiritual Infant cultivator, with no guarantee of success. Elevating the Sky-Eyed Butterfly through the Spirit Elevation Rite would not be as easy as he had imagined!

Hundred Flowers Valley has surely gathered everything the Spirit Elevation Rite requires; the question is how much is left. Qin Sang shot Valley Master Mu a glance.

But he also understood that those spiritual objects were certainly being kept for the descendants of Hundred Flowers Valley. Getting Valley Master Mu to hand them over would likely be even harder than getting him to teach the rite.

With his expression unchanged, Qin Sang suppressed the thought. He would gather what he could on his own first, then trade with Hundred Flowers Valley for whatever truly couldn't be found.

Reading on, Qin Sang finally grasped why Lan Jingsi had said outsiders performing the Spirit Elevation Rite on a spiritual insect had a lower chance of success than disciples of Hundred Flowers Valley.

It was deeply tied to the secret technique of the life-bound insect gu!
