Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 634 - 633: Here for Xv Fang

Chapter 634: Chapter 633: Here for Xv Fang

Yan Feifan’s call with Xv Jiande wasn’t long. They exchanged a few brief words and hung up.

"Academician candidates sure have high moral standards."

Yan Feifan remarked. Seeing his sister, Zeng Ni, and the others looking at him, he explained vaguely, "His son made a mistake on the R&D project I’m leading. I thought he was calling to plead his son’s case..."

"But to my surprise, he started by apologizing to me. He said he failed to discipline his son properly and told me to handle the matter with the utmost severity."

Yan Ziruo’s brow furrowed slightly. "Feifan, the mistake his son made... was it serious?"

Yan Feifan hummed in agreement. "It’s quite serious. At the very least, the punishment will involve revoking his medical license."

Yan Ziruo pressed, "When he called, did he invite you to dinner or to meet up?"

Yan Feifan recounted everything faithfully. "He did, but I told him I have plans tonight and don’t have time."

Yan Ziruo pondered for a moment, then said, "Feifan, I think that call was still a plea for leniency."

"It’s like a top executive specifically instructing a department head that the new round of hiring must be handled strictly, with absolutely no favoritism."

"But the department head knows that the top executive’s son is one of the applicants."

"So tell me, do you think that department head will show favoritism or not?"

Zeng Ni also chimed in, "Feifan, when Chinese people speak, you have to know how to read between the lines."

"Especially with words from a superior. You have to ponder them, grasp their true essence. Often, you’re meant to do the exact opposite of what’s said."

Yan Feifan said disbelievingly, "We’re doctors. We’re used to being direct. It’s not as complicated as you’re making it out to be."

"If we overthink things like that, we’ll end up delaying a patient’s treatment."

Seeing her brother’s stubbornness, Yan Ziruo opened her mouth to argue further but stopped herself just as she was about to speak.

’These days, my little brother doesn’t have to walk on eggshells for anyone. I should just let him handle it straightforwardly, according to his own principles.’

Yan Ziruo changed the subject and urged, "Feifan, we should get going. It’ll probably take a while to get there..."

The group of ten—the Yan siblings, Feng Jian, Zeng Ni and her three-person entourage, plus Yu Nanxing, Zhao Xiaoting, and her assistant Mr. Liou—left Baining Hospital in three separate cars.

Yan Feifan and Yan Ziruo rode in Baining Hospital’s spacious and comfortable Cadillac van.

Feng Jian drove, and Yu Nanxing kept them company. Shang Xiaorong had also shamelessly squeezed into the car with them.

Along the way, Yan Ziruo got the full details from her brother about Xv Fang conducting an experimental treatment on someone without authorization.

She also learned that Xv Fang’s mother had previously come to Yan Feifan to plead her son’s case, even suggesting that Yan Feifan take the fall.

This made Yan Ziruo even more certain that Xv Fang’s father’s phone call was a plea for leniency disguised as the opposite.

It was just that, as an academician candidate at a critical moment in his career, he couldn’t be too direct and give anyone leverage against him.

「An hour or so later, they arrived at Taifeng Building.」

Taifeng Building specialized in Lu cuisine. The grand table of exquisitely prepared dishes turned Yan Feifan into a glutton, and he ate to his heart’s content.

After dinner, the group chatted over tea until nearly ten o’clock at night before parting ways.

Feng Jian drove Yan Feifan and Yu Nanxing back to Baining Hospital.

Once the van was moving smoothly, Yan Feifan looked at Yu Nanxing, who was sitting next to him. Having had some red wine, his face was flushed.

"You’re interested in Shang Xiaorong?"

Yu Nanxing said, a bit shyly, "She’s cute, and her personality is so quirky and fun. Being with her just feels... easy."

Yan Feifan couldn’t help but chuckle.

’A girl like Shang Xiaorong, who’s practically a little delinquent... Only someone with eyes for her like you would think she’s ’quirky and fun,’ huh?’

Yan Feifan said casually, "If you two really end up together, remember to invite me to the wedding."

"Definitely, definitely..." Yu Nanxing’s face was full of hopeful longing.

Just then, the van they were in suddenly swerved sharply, then slammed on the brakes.

Inertia nearly threw Yan Feifan from his seat, but thankfully his seatbelt held him, snapping him back.

However, as he was thrown about, he collided heavily with Yu Nanxing beside him.

Yan Feifan’s head slammed into Yu Nanxing’s chin.

With a dull THUD, Yan Feifan’s head started ringing, and his vision went dark for a moment, followed by a splitting pain.

"What’s going on?"

After Yan Feifan shouted, Feng Jian’s voice sounded in his ear.

"A shared bike suddenly shot into our lane, right at us. I had to swerve to avoid it."

’A staged accident?’

That was the first possibility that came to Yan Feifan’s mind.

As his vision cleared, he noticed the van had started up again and pulled over to the side of the road. He reached up and felt his head.

Yan Feifan felt a lump forming where he’d been hit.

He turned to look at Yu Nanxing and saw him clutching his chin, snot and tears streaming down his face.

"Did you bite your tongue?" Yan Feifan asked worriedly!

Yu Nanxing shook his head.

That set Yan Feifan’s mind at ease. As long as his tongue was fine, a collision of this level, while inevitably painful and swollen, wasn’t a major issue.

He opened the car door and got out. Behind the van, he saw a green shared bike lying in the traffic lane. A short-haired man was sitting on the ground, continuously shaking his right arm.

Accompanied by Feng Jian, Yan Feifan walked over.

He noted the man looked to be in his mid-thirties. He had some scrapes on his right cheek and a terrified expression on his face.

Yan Feifan asked directly, "What’s wrong with you? Are you trying to stage an accident?"

The man looked up at Yan Feifan, scrambled to his feet, and cried out, his voice choked with sobs, "I’m not staging anything! My right hand suddenly lost all its strength! I couldn’t control the bike!"

"I think I’m having a stroke!"

"Please, call 911 for me!"

Hearing this, Yan Feifan firmly grasped the man’s right hand.

"Can you feel me holding your hand?"

The man nodded.

Yan Feifan continued, "Squeeze back. Squeeze my hand with all your might!"

Yan Feifan noticed the man was gritting his teeth with effort, but the responsive grip he felt was extremely weak.

"Hurry, call 911! I must be having a stroke!"

Yan Feifan said in a low, steady voice, "Your gaze is symmetrical, there are no subtle, uncoordinated expressions on the right side of your face, and your right leg hasn’t lost the strength to support your body. You are not having a stroke."

"I’m a doctor," Yan Feifan added.

Just then, Yu Nanxing, who had walked over, also spoke up. "The man in front of you happens to be one of the most brilliant genius doctors in the country."

Yan Feifan glanced at Yu Nanxing’s now red and swollen chin, then turned back to the man before him.

"What do you do for a living? Have you had any physical discomfort before this?"

The man stomped his right foot hard, testing Yan Feifan’s words. The anxiety and tension on his face lessened slightly.

"I’m a programmer. I was just heading home from work."

"Previous physical discomfort?"

"Because I’m always coding, I have a problem with soreness and aching in my neck and shoulders. Sometimes when the pain gets worse, I take a painkiller. It doesn’t affect my daily life."

Hearing this, Yan Feifan reached out and began to palpate the man’s cervical spine.

The moment he began the examination, he understood.

Yan Feifan could feel the man had a herniated cervical disc and bone spurs on his vertebrae.

"This is acute cervical nerve compression caused by long-term hunching over a computer. You need to get to a hospital for treatment right away..."

Just then, a police officer on a motorcycle arrived.

Since there had been no direct collision, the two parties explained the situation, exchanged contact information, and that was the end of it.

In the end, the police officer took the man to a nearby hospital.

Yan Feifan and the others returned directly to Baining Hospital.

By the time they got back to the guesthouse at Baining Hospital, it was already past eleven.

Outside his suite, Yan Feifan was surprised to find someone waiting.

It was Miao Quan, the director of neurology from the Affiliated Hospital.

"Mr. Miao, what are you doing here?"

Miao Quan gave a bitter smile and said, "I’ve come because of Xv Fang..."
