Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 638 - 637: Urgent Mission

Chapter 638: Chapter 637: Urgent Mission

Despite the flight attendants’ desperate, loud attempts to calm everyone, even at their own risk, panic had already spread. Many passengers in the cabin were crying and shouting as if the apocalypse had arrived.

Yan Feifan was afraid, too.

But he noticed that while the plane was shaking, the turbulence wasn’t violent enough to feel like it was out of control.

Looking out the window, he also noticed that there was no terrifying black smoke trailing from the back of the plane as it made a wide turn in the air.

This gave Yan Feifan a great deal of hope that he would survive.

Perhaps this really was just a temporary return to the airport for some unknown reason.

He suddenly noticed that Feng Jian, sitting beside him, was remarkably calm, even though his face was a little pale and his hands were clenched tightly on the armrests.

"Aren’t you scared?"

Feng Jian shook his head. "I am, but there’s nothing I can do about a situation like this. All I can do is wait and see what happens. I’m trying to be philosophical about it."

"So what are you thinking about?" Yan Feifan asked, a little curious.

Feng Jian answered quickly, "That it won’t be painful. The moment of impact, the massive force will make us lose consciousness and die instantly."

"I also thought about how the death compensation for an aviation accident is very high."

Yan Feifan murmured an "oh" and asked, "Do you have any regrets?"

Feng Jian thought for a moment, then replied, "Not getting married and having a child to keep my parents company in my place."

"Mr. Yan, what about you?"

"Me? Regrets?"

Yan Feifan mused aloud, "The money I’ve earned is enough for my sister to live a wealthy life."

"Su Ye, as a doctor herself, is used to life and death."

"The tumor puncture injection technique should leave me with some medical renown after I’m gone."

’Do I have regrets?’

Images of several people flashed through Yan Feifan’s mind. To his surprise, they were Yanyan, Chu Xiaolong, Tang Zheng, Liao Zili, and a few others.

’I still have several surgeries I agreed to do!’

’And I could have helped so many more people live better, healthier lives.’

’I’ve been so busy with studying and work... my life seems a bit monotonous...’

After that simple chat with Feng Jian, Yan Feifan found he wasn’t that scared anymore.

Life and death could be over in an instant, but life’s responsibilities were endless.

For some reason, Yan Feifan found himself thinking that dying and leaving it all behind wouldn’t be so bad after all...

The passengers’ terror finally subsided ten to twenty minutes later, when the plane landed smoothly at the airport.

But after a brief moment of calm, some passengers, ignoring the fact that the plane was still taxiing, scrambled to push their way to the exit door.

If a flight attendant hadn’t shouted a reminder about the "at least two hundred thousand yuan fine," someone might have even opened the emergency exit.

A safe landing meant the danger was over.

The last of Yan Feifan’s fear vanished completely. He sat in his seat, watching the other passengers’ reactions with great interest.

A few minutes later, the plane came to a complete stop. The cabin door opened, and the ten or twenty passengers crowded in front of it surged out.

They nearly knocked two soldiers in camouflage uniforms, who were waiting outside to board the plane, right off the jet bridge stairs.

Fortunately, they reacted quickly, dodging backward and pressing themselves against the handrail to avoid the first torrent of people.

A moment later, Yan Feifan saw the two soldiers squeeze into the cabin. They straightened their caps and uniforms as they walked toward him.

Seeing the two soldiers, a thought popped into Yan Feifan’s head.

’Holy crap, don’t tell me this emergency landing was because of me?’

’What big shot is having a medical emergency that they could order a plane in mid-air to make an emergency landing?’

Before Yan Feifan could react, Feng Jian, who was beside him, shot to his feet and crisply snapped a salute.

"Sirs!"

Yan Feifan saw that of the two men approaching, one was a colonel and the other a captain. He stood up as well.

The colonel first gave Feng Jian a casual return salute, then stood at attention and gave Yan Feifan a standard military salute.

"Mr. Yan, by order of the General, you are requested at the base to consult on an extremely urgent and important mission."

"Mr. Yan, time is of the essence. Please, come with us."

Seeing that they were indeed here for him, Yan Feifan started to follow the two men, but was unexpectedly pulled back by Feng Jian.

Feng Jian looked at the colonel and said, "Sir, I’m responsible for Mr. Yan’s safety. Please show me your identification!"

Yan Feifan spoke first. "Feng Jian, not just anyone can order a plane to make an emergency landing in this country."

"There’s no need to verify their identities."

"Just grab our luggage and let’s go with them."

Under the watchful eyes of the pilots, flight attendants, and over a hundred passengers, Yan Feifan and Feng Jian followed the two soldiers off the plane and got into a camouflage-painted military vehicle parked beside it.

As Yan Feifan fastened his seatbelt, he said, "Give me the patient’s medical file first. I’ll take a look!"

The colonel, sitting next to him, explained, "Mr. Yan, as for the specific details, the General will brief you personally once we arrive at the base."

"Mr. Yan, hold on tight!"

As he said this, he gestured to the captain in the driver’s seat to go.

The moment the colonel’s hand dropped, Yan Feifan was thrown back against his seat by the sudden inertia.

The vehicle continued to accelerate, and the g-force pressed him firmly into the backrest.

Not only that, but the vehicle also executed a ninety-degree fishtail, turning itself around while still accelerating.

The shock sent Yan Feifan’s heart rate soaring to more than double its normal pace.

The vehicle’s speed quickly climbed to 140 or 150 kilometers per hour as it shot out of the airport.

Once on a normal road, the speed stabilized at around 160 or 170 km/h, and they flew along at a breakneck pace.

Watching the scenery flash by the window and car after car being overtaken, Yan Feifan thought to himself that they were right not to give him the medical file.

’Who the hell could focus in a situation like this?!’

After racing for ten to twenty minutes, Yan Feifan noticed the vehicle had slowed down. They seemed to have entered a region of steep mountains.

The sides of the road were lined with large, exposed rock faces, with the occasional hardy shrub or patch of grass growing among them.

Another ten or so minutes later, after passing through three checkpoints, the light suddenly dimmed then brightened again. Yan Feifan realized they had driven into a tunnel.

Soon, the vehicle came to a stop.

Yan Feifan got out and, after a security check with a handheld scanner, followed the colonel onto an electric cart.

As for Feng Jian, he was led elsewhere by the captain to wait.

Yan Feifan rode the electric cart as it twisted and turned through the tunnel for another five or six minutes. Then he got off and followed the colonel into a spacious office.

There were quite a few people here. Seven middle-aged men in white lab coats were gathered around several pieces of equipment, working.

There were also four soldiers in camouflage uniforms.

A short-haired soldier with graying hair and two gold stars on his shoulder boards led the group and strode over to greet them.

He took the initiative and firmly shook Yan Feifan’s hand, saying with a thick accent, "Mr. Yan, we desperately need your help."

"General, I’ll do my best!"

Yan Feifan glanced around and added, "First, please take me to see the patient."

"Mr. Yan, it’s not a patient. It’s a satellite!"

Before Yan Feifan could ask, the General continued to explain, "One of our satellites was struck by a small meteoroid and has been damaged."

"We attempted to send up a robot to perform repairs."

"The robot did manage to reach the damaged satellite, but its camera malfunctioned after an impact during the process."

"This has left us in a situation where we have to perform the repairs blind, relying only on photos taken before the camera failed."

"And what’s more..."

The General said with a look of urgency, "Mr. Yan, if we don’t adjust this satellite’s orbit, in five hours it will pass a critical point and fall into the atmosphere."

"Mr. Yan, we know you’re famous for your precise and meticulous surgical skills. We also know you have a photographic memory and powerful simulative and deductive abilities."

"Given our situation, can you help us?"
