Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 702 - 701: So Much Bullshit

Chapter 702: Chapter 701: So Much Bullshit

After a family dinner, Su Ru chatted with the Yan siblings in the living room for over half an hour before going up to the attic bedroom with Yu Suye to have a private talk.

With just the two of them alone, Yu Suye got straight to the point. "Mom, you showed up unannounced this time. Did Dad and Grandpa send you?"

Su Ru looked awkward and stammered for a moment before finally nodding in admission.

This left Yu Suye feeling frustrated.

"I knew it. Whenever I asked you to come over before, Mom, you always said it wasn’t convenient or you didn’t have time."

"You were so quick to come this time. Turns out you were just following orders."

"Mom, just tell me. What’s the real reason you’re here?"

Su Ru took her daughter’s hand as they sat on the bed together. "Su Ye, I don’t have any special purpose. It’s just that your dad and grandpa regret what happened, so they asked me to come see you."

"After all, we’re family. Blood is thicker than water."

Su Ru then changed the subject. "Your brother mentioned you’re busy with renovations for the new villa. You and Feifan have been together for a while now. It’s about time you started planning for marriage."

"He basically has no parents, so there’s no one on his side to worry about these things."

"But you have a large family. If we don’t show up for it, people will laugh at us."

A blush flashed across Yu Suye’s face, and she huffed, "Feifan and I are perfectly fine as we are. In this day and age, marriage is just a ceremony. It doesn’t mean much."

After a pause, she asked, "Is it because Feifan’s career is taking off faster than they expected, and my brother’s is poised for great success, that Dad and Grandpa are starting to have regrets?"

Su Ru nodded, directly admitting it.

"Although they said they were cutting ties with you, how could they truly ignore you?"

"Your dad and grandpa have still been keeping an eye on you privately. Otherwise, your brother wouldn’t have gotten their permission to come work in Binhai so easily."

Yu Suye pursed her lips, expressing serious doubt about that statement.

"Mom, you don’t have to make excuses for them. I understand perfectly well."

"If Feifan wasn’t doing so well and didn’t have the power to influence my brother’s future, they never would have had a change of heart."

Yu Suye didn’t dwell on the topic. She changed the subject again. "Mom, besides getting Feifan to treat that patient with the cerebral blood clot, do you have any other specific missions this time?"

Su Ru quickly shook her head. "No, no."

"Other than that, I just came to see you and your brother."

She sighed with a hint of complaint. "It’s not just you who never comes home. Your brother hasn’t been back in months either. Even when he calls, he can’t talk for more than two minutes before hanging up in a hurry."

Yu Suye’s heart softened. She explained, "My brother is just busy."

"This is a critical time for his product launch and promotion. He’s so busy he barely has time to sleep."

"I mostly contact him through messages, and it often takes him several hours to reply."

Su Ru nodded gently. "I know he’s busy, but his wedding has been set for the end of the year, and there’s a lot to prepare."

"I need to talk to him about the wedding preparations while I’m here."

She asked again, "Su Ye, Feifan gave you a gemstone ring worth millions, and now you have a grand villa worth over a hundred million for your new home."

"You and Feifan, you two..."

Yu Suye quickly interrupted, "Mom, you should worry about my brother’s wedding first. He’ll probably be busy right up until the end of the year."

"As for Feifan and me, don’t worry about it. I have it under control."

She quickly added a warning, "Mom, tell Dad and Grandpa for me: Feifan is a medical genius. He acts straightforwardly and thinks in relatively simple terms, but that doesn’t mean he’s stupid or easy to fool."

"On the contrary, he’s an excellent judge of people and situations. His likes and dislikes are absolute—it’s one way or the other."

"Mom, you should tell Dad and Grandpa it’s best they don’t have any clever little schemes or intentions. If they truly earn Feifan’s disgust, there will be no turning back."

Seeing her daughter’s solemn expression, Su Ru also said seriously, "Su Ye, I will relay your words to them, word for word."

Her seriousness didn’t last two seconds. She urged, "Hey, Su Ye, hurry up and let me see that multi-million-dollar gemstone ring..."

Downstairs, Yan Ziruo carried a plate of sliced fruit into her brother’s room and found him sitting at his desk, deep in thought with his eyes slightly closed.

"Thinking about a surgical plan again?"

Yan Feifan opened his eyes, speared a piece of fruit with a toothpick, and popped it into his mouth. He chewed a few times and swallowed.

"I have three surgeries tomorrow. I need to prepare for them carefully."

Yan Ziruo leaned against the desk and looked down at her brother, whose face showed signs of fatigue. She advised, "Pace yourself. Don’t try to cram all your work into one block of time."

"How old are you, anyway? You have plenty of time."

Yan Feifan let out a soft sigh. "I may have plenty of time, but my patients don’t."

"There are so many drowning people waiting for me to save them. I can’t afford to slack off."

Yan Ziruo rolled her eyes and teased, "You’re just bursting with an overdeveloped sense of responsibility."

"Even God can’t save everyone. Just save a few more people when you can. Don’t burn yourself out in the process."

She picked up a piece of fruit for herself and tossed it into her mouth.

"Uncle and Mrs. Hui are going to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register their marriage tomorrow. This Saturday, I’m going with them to pick out a car."

"They want to buy a Porsche sports car."

Yan Feifan said, "Oh?" He added, "Didn’t Uncle say he wanted to buy a big, tough-looking car? Why the sudden interest in a sports car?"

Yan Ziruo chuckled. "I guess Mrs. Hui’s opinion won out in the end. Anyway, our job is just to pay. We don’t care what car they choose."

After a pause, she continued, "Duan Yu is going back home tomorrow."

"I’ve already prepared the gifts: the two bottles of Maotai you had Feng Jian buy last time, and some of the health supplements we received as gifts before."

Yan Feifan added, "Sis, let’s add something practical. Prepare a red envelope with tens of thousands in it."

Yan Ziruo hummed in agreement, then changed the subject. "Feifan, are we going to sell the apartment at Happiness Garden?"

"Mrs. Tian said that housing prices are unlikely to rise any further. If we sell now, we’d be selling at a high point."

Yan Feifan hesitated. The apartment at Happiness Garden held many of his memories, but he also knew that he would almost certainly never go back there.

Yan Feifan pondered for a moment, then said, "Sis, let’s sell it."

"What’s past is past."

Yan Ziruo nodded lightly, her voice filled with emotion. "We lived in that apartment for over a decade. So much happened there."

"But now that I think about it, a lot of it was unhappy."

"When you woke up, it was as if fate finally decided it couldn’t stand to watch anymore and started to compensate us."

"Selling that apartment is like making a break with the past and saying goodbye."

Yan Feifan shot his sister a look. "Sis, selling an apartment is just selling an apartment. You don’t have to be so dramatic about it."

The words had barely left his mouth when he received a flick on the forehead.

Just then, his phone rang.

It was a call from Liu Jin.

"Feifan, a working group from the National Health Commission is in Binhai to inspect public health work. Our Affiliated Hospital is an important stop on their inspection tour."

"They’re coming tomorrow, and they’ve specifically requested your presence at the meeting."

Yan Feifan was taken aback for a moment, then replied bluntly, "Professor, I have three surgeries tomorrow. How could I possibly have time to attend some meeting?"

"Besides, I’m just a doctor. Their inspection shouldn’t have much to do with me. It won’t make a difference whether I’m there or not."

Liu Jin sounded troubled. "That may be so, but the problem is, the official inspection notice states that you are required to attend."

"They’re such a pain in the ass," Yan Feifan complained. "Professor, just make an excuse for me. If there’s something that truly concerns me, we can talk about it then."

After a brief pause, Liu Jin said with a note of resignation, "Alright, I’ll cover for you for now."

"You’re not who you used to be. Not just anyone would be foolish enough to provoke you now..."
