Chapter 725 - 724: Money or Health

Chapter 725: Chapter 724: Money or Health

A little after seven on Sunday morning, the Yan siblings, Yu Suye, and Duan Yu arrived at Xinfeng Restaurant.

Outside the restaurant, large, red "double happiness" characters were pasted, a red carpet was laid out, and an archway woven from lilies and roses stood at the entrance, creating a festive and welcoming scene.

The Yan siblings and their group passed through the floral archway and entered the restaurant, finding a flurry of activity inside.

In the main hall, a dozen or so smartly dressed men and women were busy—some pasting up "double happiness" characters, some arranging flowers, and others tidying up the tables and chairs.

"Mr. Yan..."

Yan Feifan followed the sudden, pleasantly surprised voice and saw a dark-complexioned man in his thirties running down from the second floor.

The man was Peng Jun. A little over five months ago, Yan Feifan had performed a thumb reconstruction surgery on his right hand.

Yan Feifan looked at his right thumb.

On closer inspection, he could see that the skin color was slightly paler than his other four fingers, and a few faint suture scars were also visible.

"How’s your thumb recovering?"

Peng Jun held up his right hand, wiggling his thumb, and said with a smile, "Look, Mr. Yan. It’s very flexible."

"I can eat and work with it effortlessly now, and I can even use my strength."

Yan Feifan took his thumb and kneaded it a couple of times, asking, "Is there still any numbness or pain?"

Peng Jun shook his head. "The pain was gone a long time ago, and there’s no numbness either. It’s just that the sensation is a little weaker."

He thought for a moment and said, "For example, if I pick up a cup of hot water, my other fingers will feel a burning sensation, but this thumb only feels a little warm."

Yan Feifan released his hand and said, "It was a transplant and reconstruction, after all. The nerves are inevitably damaged, so reduced sensitivity at the tip is normal."

Peng Jun laughed. "Mr. Yan, I’m not complaining at all. I couldn’t be more satisfied."

"I’ve seen a couple of guys who had fingers reattached, and their fingers could barely bend or extend. They were practically just for show. Nothing like my thumb..."

At this point, Peng Jun rubbed his head and said sheepishly, "Look at me, rambling on and on."

"Mrs. Xia is in the large private room on the third floor, having breakfast with family and friends from her hometown..."

In the large private room on the third floor, Yan Feifan met his younger uncle, Shu Lei; his new aunt, Liu Xia; and Liu Xia’s parents and other relatives. There were more than ten people in total.

After some brief introductions and pleasantries, Yan Feifan volunteered, saying they had eaten early and rushed over specifically to help, so they should feel free to ask him to do anything.

Liu Xia chuckled. "There are so many people busy outside, we’re not short one person. You’re a great doctor, so just stay here in the private room with Su Ye, drink some tea, and wait for the banquet to start."

She then looked at Yu Suye and asked, "Su Ye, what about your parents? Should we send someone to pick them up?"

Yu Suye smiled and replied, "Auntie, no need. It’s already arranged. My brother will pick them up from the airport..."

In the end, it was decided that Yan Feifan, Yu Suye, and Duan Yu would stay in a reception room set up on the second floor to drink tea and greet any guests who needed Yan Feifan’s attention.

Yan Ziruo, meanwhile, would stay by their uncle and aunt’s side, helping to welcome guests and acting as a bridesmaid.

Yan Feifan had just sat down in the second-floor reception room, before the tea was even brewed, when the first guest arrived.

It was Mr. Yo from the nearby vegetable market.

Years ago, his son’s chin had been bitten by a dog, losing a large chunk of flesh. Five months ago, Yan Feifan had performed a chin muscle reconstruction surgery for his son.

Mr. Yo had come to deliver fresh vegetables to the restaurant and to congratulate Liu Xia.

When he heard Yan Feifan was here, he came over to express his gratitude.

"Mr. Yan, my son got engaged back in our hometown. He’s getting married next month."

Mr. Yo said with a broad smile, "The girl took a liking to my son right away and didn’t ask for a large betrothal gift."

"This is all thanks to you, Mr. Yan. Otherwise, with the ghastly way my son looked, finding a decent wife would have cost at least several hundred thousand more."

Yan Feifan was a bit stunned and couldn’t help but say, "Mr. Yo, if I remember correctly, isn’t your son only nineteen?"

Mr. Yo chuckled. "Kids from the countryside usually get married earlier. My daughter-in-law is a bit older, though, three years older than my son."

"After they get married, they’ll come to Binhai to sell vegetables with me. When that time comes, I’ll bring them to serve you tea as a sign of respect."

Yan Feifan quickly waved it off. "Mr. Yo, that’s not necessary at all. You really don’t have to..."

After a few more minutes of small talk, Mr. Yo took his leave.

Yu Suye looked at Duan Yu and asked with a mischievous grin, "Duan Yu, when you took your boyfriend back to your hometown, did you talk about marriage?"

Duan Yu wasn’t the least bit shy. She nodded and said, "We did. After all, at my age, I’m considered an old maid in my hometown. My parents started pressuring me two or three years ago."

"I’m going with Lei to his hometown for the Spring Festival. If there are no issues, we’ll probably get married around May Day next year."

This made Yu Suye’s expression turn a bit complicated. "You two are certainly moving fast."

Duan Yu sighed softly. "This is actually considered slow."

"A lot of migrant workers have a ’one-stop’ matchmaking, engagement, and wedding process right before the Spring Festival. After the holiday, they head out to work together."

"The whole thing takes about half a month."

Yu Suye found this hard to imagine. "That fast? Can they even get to know each other?"

"Can they develop any feelings for each other?"

Duan Yu looked as if she had seen through the ways of the world. "The pressures of life in the countryside are immense. It’s mostly about whether the family conditions are suitable and if the person is easy on the eyes. Then they get together."

"As for things like love and affection, only people like you, Mr. Yan and Dr. Yu, have the luxury of talking about that."

Yan Feifan couldn’t help but interrupt. "What’s there for you two to talk about when it comes to love?"

"Duan Yu, go talk to Mo Xiaolei."

"Su Ye, come over here and watch your uncle Mr. Youyi’s surgery video with me. Let’s journey hand in hand through the sea of medicine together."

Duan Yu rolled her eyes at his words.

Yu Suye, however, picked up her chair and moved closer to Yan Feifan.

She then leaned her body softly against Yan Feifan, smiling sweetly as she watched the surgery video on his phone with him...

A little over half an hour later, Yan Feifan, who was engrossed in the video, was suddenly disturbed by the sound of a child and an adult wailing at the top of their lungs from outside the door.

He stood up, quite displeased, and prepared to go out and see what was happening.

’Today is my uncle’s big day. Who would be so tactless as to come here crying and causing a scene?’

"Mr. Yan, you stay in the room. I’ll go check it out!"

Duan Yu stopped Yan Feifan and went out herself.

However, she quickly returned with Liu Yan, a waitress dressed in a festive red uniform.

"Mr. Yan, Mrs. Xia and Mrs. Yan asked me to tell you not to go out."

After relaying the message, Liu Yan explained, "Mr. Yan, Dr. Yu, the ones crying and making a scene out front are Mr. Shu’s bad friend, Rong Bin, who’s now mentally disabled, along with his family and child."

"They say they came specially to offer their congratulations and even brought what looks like a very thick red envelope."

"Mr. Shu didn’t accept it and told them to leave. That’s when they started making a fuss—the child crying, the adult crying too."

"They also said..."

Liu Yan said indignantly, "That if Mr. Shu doesn’t forgive them, they’ll keep kneeling at the entrance to atone and won’t get up."

Yan Feifan snorted, his face full of contempt. "Even if my uncle forgives them, they’ll just claim that if he *truly* forgave them from the bottom of his heart, he would definitely ask me to treat Rong Bin."

He pondered for a moment, then said, "Liu Yan, tell that family this on my behalf..."

"Because of Rong Bin, my uncle lost four houses and four to five million in cash. The anger also worsened my grandparents’ health, causing them to pass away several years prematurely."

"Tell them, if they want my treatment, it’s simple..."

"I don’t want their compensation. All they have to do is donate all of their current property—houses, cars, everything."

"Simply put, they have to choose: money or health. They can only have one!"

"And tell them, if they continue to make a scene, I’ll have the police come and arrest the whole family!"

"Got it, Mr. Yan! I’ll go deliver the message right now!"

Liu Yan acknowledged and scurried out...
