Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 742 - 741: A Good Teacher

Chapter 742: Chapter 741: A Good Teacher

It was Saturday at Binhai University Affiliated Hospital. While there were fewer medical personnel than on a weekday, it was no less busy.

Medical staff in white coats could be seen everywhere, their expressions serious and their steps hurried.

Not everyone was in such a rush, however.

Bathed in the morning sun, sometime after eight o’clock, Yu Beihua pushed a gurney carrying a bald, middle-aged male patient. Together with the patient’s family, he left the Little Red House and began the slow journey to the neurosurgery department.

At their current pace, the journey would take about ten minutes.

There was no way around it. The bulky yet delicate instruments required for the patient’s treatment were all located in the neurosurgery lab.

And it wasn’t feasible to have this first group of deep-coma patients, who were part of an experimental treatment, stay in Inpatient Building Five, which was near the neurosurgery department and full of other neurological patients. The primary issue was confidentiality.

"Once bitten, twice shy," both Qiu Ge and Yan Feifan were being extra cautious. The tenth-floor ward in the Little Red House and the neurosurgery lab were the two locations currently under their tightest control.

Besides, the patient was in a deep coma; the slight movement and jostling along the way wouldn’t worsen his condition.

It was morning, and autumn had set in over a month ago. The sunlight was still warm on the skin but no longer scorching enough to make one seek shade.

Lv Xing gazed at her father’s face on the gurney. The sunlight cast a faint golden hue upon it, and his eyelashes fluttered in the gentle breeze, making it seem as though his eyes might open at any moment.

A surge of excitement coursed through her.

Lv Xing grasped her father’s hand, giving it a firm shake in the sunlight. "All right, Mr. Lv," she said loudly, "I’m taking you to get treatment from Mr. Yan. You have to be good and stay strong, okay?"

"When the treatment is over, you’ll be able to wake up."

"Then we can enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and explore the gorgeous, modern, international metropolis of Binhai."

"Ahem..."

Yu Beihua, who was pushing the gurney, cleared his throat. "Uh, Lv Xing," he said, "this is an experimental treatment, and a long-term one at that. We’re not likely to see immediate, dramatic results."

Lv Xing turned to the tall, handsome young doctor and gave him a sweet smile.

"I know, Dr. Yu."

Her voice was cheerful as she recited the plan. "Starting today, it’s one day of treatment followed by one day of observation. There will be fifteen treatments in total, which will take thirty days."

"If any abnormalities occur, the treatment will be suspended!"

"If there are no positive changes after fifteen treatments, the treatment will be suspended."

"After that, they’ll conduct a comprehensive review and either revise the treatment method or end the experimental therapy altogether."

"I got all that right, didn’t I, Dr. Yu?"

Yu Beihua smiled back and nodded.

Lv Xing’s smile widened. "I’ve learned a bit more about Mr. Yan recently," she said.

"He woke up from a deep coma that lasted a year and three months. It was practically a miracle."

"And since Mr. Yan returned to work at the hospital, he’s had one success after another, creating miracle after miracle."

"To this day, Mr. Yan has never failed—not once. Whether it’s surgery or diagnosis, he’s maintained a one-hundred-percent success rate."

"He won’t fail this time either. I’m sure of it!"

’It’s true that our teacher hasn’t failed and has a perfect success rate,’ Yu Beihua thought, ’but that doesn’t guarantee your father will wake up from his coma.’

’This experimental therapy is a matter of probability.’

Of course, Yu Beihua wasn’t foolish enough to point this out to Lv Xing.

He just went along with it. "I also have complete confidence in the experimental therapy our teacher is conducting."

Lv Xing gently brushed a few stray strands of hair from her face that had been blown there by the breeze. "Mr. Yan is younger than you, isn’t he? Yet he’s your teacher," she asked curiously.

"Does that feel awkward to you, Dr. Yu?"

Yu Beihua chuckled. "As the saying goes, ’He who is proficient is the master.’ What’s there to feel awkward about?"

"Besides, our teacher’s brilliance makes us completely forget about his age."

"It’s not just us. Even renowned senior physicians, our own elders in the medical field, have to humbly come and ask our teacher for guidance."

"In the field of medicine, you can’t bluff or fake your way through. Anyone in the profession can tell at a glance who’s truly skilled."

"Oh," Lv Xing said, then asked, "Everyone knows Mr. Yan is brilliant, but is he a good teacher?"

"..."

Yu Beihua opened his mouth, but for a moment, he didn’t know how to answer.

Lv Xing, however, looked as if she’d just discovered a new continent. "You hesitated, Dr. Yu!" she said, excited.

"Is Mr. Yan very strict with you all?"

"Or maybe... he doesn’t really know how to teach?"

After a moment to gather his thoughts, Yu Beihua had come up with a response.

"We’ve only been his students for a very short time. A month at most, if you count everything."

"We’re still in the process of getting to know our teacher, and he’s getting to know us."

"Besides, he’s been so busy lately that he hasn’t had much time to formally teach us."

Yu Beihua said slowly, "So, it wouldn’t be appropriate to pass judgment on him as a teacher under these circumstances."

"Most importantly, young doctors like us don’t need to sit in a formal classroom to learn."

"We learn just by listening and watching."

"By being around our teacher, not only do we get to witness his incredible surgical techniques, but we also get to observe the clinical procedures of top experts from both home and abroad and see complex treatment processes firsthand."

"Sometimes, just sitting by and listening to their discussions can feel like a sudden epiphany—more enlightening than ten years of reading books."

Lv Xing let out a long "Ohhh" of understanding. "Mr. Yan is a genius, a top-tier doctor, so most of the people he interacts with are also top-tier experts."

"Just by being in that environment for a few years, you’ll absorb so much and become top-tier medical experts yourselves through osmosis."

Yu Beihua chuckled. "It’s not quite that easy. Personal effort and understanding are still essential."

Lv Xing smiled gently. "Of course. I know you can’t succeed in any field without hard work."

"So," she pressed, "is Mr. Yan strict with you?"

"Are you afraid of him?"

Yu Beihua shook his head. "Our teacher might not seem very approachable, but he’s actually very good to the people around him."

"He’s not strict with us."

"As for being afraid of him..."

Yu Beihua thought for a moment. "We are, a little bit."

"A single word from our teacher could determine our entire future. We wouldn’t dare step out of line..."

The ten-minute journey passed quickly as they talked, one asking questions and the other answering.

They pushed the patient into the lab, transferred him to the treatment bed, and then left.

The entire treatment process was to be handled personally by Yan Feifan and Qiu Ge. It was completely confidential, so the others were not permitted to observe.

Inside the lab, the patient lay prone on the treatment bed. He wore a monitoring headpiece designed to precisely measure the intensity of brainwave activity in various regions of his brain. He was also connected to monitors tracking his heart rate, respiration, and other vital physiological signs.

Most strikingly, six rigid metal wires, each 0.5 millimeters in diameter, were inserted into different parts of the patient’s brainstem.

These long wires spanned nearly two meters through the air, converging at their ends into a single cable that was plugged into a special port on the infrasound resonance generator.

Dr. Qiu Ge carefully checked all the instruments and the values they displayed, then looked at Yan Feifan.

"Mr. Yan, the equipment is functioning normally, and the patient’s vital signs are all normal."

Yan Feifan nodded and announced clearly, "First experimental trial for awakening a deep-coma patient using infrasound resonance, commencing now!"

As he spoke, he pressed a control button on the infrasound resonance generator...
