Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 792: Accusation

A little after seven in the evening, Yan Feifan had a relatively smooth trip back to the Zuimo Court District in Binhai.

While he was eating dinner, he got another call from Song Yi.

“Today we performed the audio hypnosis test on the four people who came in with referrals. We were lucky—we detected the frequency for two of them.”

Song Yi elaborated, “We’re charging them for the ‘Good Sleep’ package, which is 5,888 yuan.”

“No success, no fee.”

“Feifan, we discussed it and decided to officially launch appointment-based services for the ‘Good Sleep’ project.”

“We won’t do any proactive marketing. We’ll only serve clients who come to us through referrals, building our reputation through word-of-mouth.”

“We’ll give it a try first. If we can grow the business to a decent size within the next six months purely through word-of-mouth, we’ll be able to save a substantial amount on costs.”

Yan Feifan said noncommittally, “Song Yi, you guys are the experts on how to move the business forward. You can make the call.”

He then remembered something and asked, “Song Yi, weren’t we planning to contact a trustworthy celebrity for an ad a while ago?”

“How did that go?”

Song Yi sighed. “At first, they looked down on us for not being well-known and wouldn’t even give us the time of day.”

“Later, we managed to get in touch through some connections, but they demanded an exorbitant price. The fee was way too high—they actually wanted fifty million a year for the endorsement.”

“Now that we’re expanding the market based on our product’s tangible results, and doing quite well at it, we’ve all agreed that there’s no need to waste that kind of money on an advertisement.”

Yan Feifan gave a soft “oh” and said, “The public has a discerning eye. Especially when it comes to medical products, tangible results are the most effective form of promotion…”

Yu Suye refilled Yan Feifan’s soup bowl. Once he ended the call with Song Yi, she said, “Feifan, Chuan gathered us investors this morning, and we discussed the closure of Luo’s Private Kitchen.”

“Since their minds are made up, we’ve decided to handle everything officially.”

“Our lawyer, Jiang Jie, will work with an accounting firm to inspect and audit all of Luo’s Private Kitchen’s paperwork and past financial records.”

Yan Feifan murmured an “oh” as Yu Suye continued, “Chuan also said his ex-wife is willing to take over the building and turn it into a small, high-end international hospital.”

“He’s hoping we won’t withdraw our investments, but instead transfer our shares directly to the new private hospital.”

“However, the conversion ratio for the shares can’t be determined yet. We’ll have to wait until the full budget for the hospital is finalized.”

“Chuan promised he won’t treat any of us unfairly.”

“We all agreed. We’re not pulling out; we’ll transfer our shares.”

Yan Feifan nodded and chuckled. “With Chuan backing it, that little hospital could turn a hefty profit just by taking on a few plastic surgeries.”

“Anyone can do that math, so of course, no one would be foolish enough to pull out.”

Yu Suye giggled. “You know, they’re counting you as one of the new hospital’s backers, too.”

Yan Feifan smiled. “We could just stick Berry, with her good looks, in this international hospital as the face of the place.”

“If she just stands by the door, she’d probably draw in a crowd.”

Yu Suye shot him a sidelong glance. “She came all the way to China to learn actual skills from you.”

At this, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Beihua is studying with Dr. Qiu Ge, and Pan Jichuan spends all his free time with the five bigwigs of cardiac surgery.”

“You pawned Zhu Jian and Berry off on Chuan, and that guy Li Tianlin is always seeking guidance from Teacher Qin Ying.”

“And you, their official teacher, have become completely hands-off.”

Yan Feifan quickly defended himself, “Su Ye, I haven’t just left them to their own devices.”

“One, I gave them a long-term assignment that none of them have finished yet.”

“Two, whenever I take on patients relevant to their specialties, I always have them with me for hands-on instruction.”

“And three, I regularly answer their medical questions and check on their learning progress.”

Yu Suye’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Look at you getting all defensive. No one’s saying you’re an unqualified or irresponsible teacher.”

“I heard from Beihua that all of them are actually very happy with the current arrangement and really cherish the opportunity.”

“Really? You’re not just saying that?” Yan Feifan asked, sounding a bit insecure.

“It’s true! Would I lie to you?”

Yu Suye said in a serious tone, “The attending physicians at the hospital each mentor ten or twenty assistants, students, and residents. On top of treating patients every day, where would they find the time or energy for one-on-one instruction?”

“They just have them tag along to observe their diagnostic and treatment procedures. A responsible one might offer a brief explanation.”

“As for whether the students actually learn anything, that’s entirely up to their own aptitude and how hard they study on their own time.”

Yu Suye chuckled. “You’ve managed that kind of teaching, Feifan.”

“But not only that, you also provide them with a wealth of resources for practice, answer their questions, and give them direction.”

“And, most importantly, thanks to your connections, they can get guidance from renowned experts in their fields whenever they need it.”

“With learning conditions like these, they’d be far too greedy if they weren’t satisfied.”

Yan Feifan gave a smug chuckle. “Actually, I could do even better. But let’s wait until I get through this busy period and my body has fully recovered…”

After dinner, Yan Feifan went back to his room and drew the transparent-view diagrams for the intraspinal tumor puncture and injection procedures from the two surgeries he had performed that day.

The moment he set down his charcoal pencil, Yan Feifan let out a long, involuntary sigh.

‘One hundred surgical plans. Finally finished!’

Yan Feifan felt a sense of full-body relief, like reaching his destination after a long trek and finally setting down a heavy pack.

More than six months of continuous work had finally come to a close.

He knew, however, that for the surgical AI, the more of this kind of data, the better.

Yan Feifan would continue to draw these puncture-injection diagrams in the future, but his feelings about it would be entirely different. It wouldn’t be the same experience at all.

He glanced at the time and saw it was past eleven, so he quickly tidied his desk and got ready for bed.

Just then, his phone suddenly rang.

It was Ye Lin, the young nurse.

Yan Feifan answered. “What’s up?”

“Boss, a young doctor in Jingcheng committed suicide this afternoon. Did you hear about it?”

Yan Feifan froze and asked urgently, “Xv Fang?”

“Boss, it wasn’t him. I just got off the phone with him a minute ago. He’s doing fine.”

Yan Feifan felt a wave of relief. “Doctors are under a lot of mental stress, especially young ones.”

“It’s not that rare for a doctor to get overwhelmed and take their own life…”

As he said this, Yan Feifan realized there was more to it.

“Ye Lin, you’re calling me specifically about this. Does this young doctor’s suicide have something to do with me?”

The words had barely left his mouth when Ye Lin’s voice came rushing from the phone.

“Boss, it is related.”

“The guy said in his suicide note that he had been internally selected for some kind of training program for one hundred young doctors at a top international hospital.”

“To focus on his studies, he went so far as to break up with his fiancée.”

“But in the end, because… because of you, Boss, the training program was canceled.”

“When he went to get his fiancée back, he discovered she was already dating one of his good friends.”

“Then, the day before yesterday, he was involved in a medical malpractice incident and faced a lot of blame.”

“In his note, the guy accused you, Boss, saying your selfishness destroyed his love life, his career, and his future…”
