Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Chapter 410: A Bizarre Clash of Gazes

Chapter 410: Chapter 410: A Bizarre Clash of Gazes

That was why she had brought the issue up with Hua Yusen, regardless of where they were.

Thankfully, a single comment from Little Red Carp immediately improved the atmosphere between them. Hua Yusen was incredibly grateful for her playful interruption.

"Little Red Carp, Nuanyang, do you have enough to eat? We can order more if you don’t!" Hua Yusen said with a chuckle. ’You can always count on Little Red Carp in a pinch.’

Although Zhao Nuanyue had been smiling the whole time, Hua Yusen could clearly sense her unhappiness and suppressed anger.

At the same time, Hua Yusen felt a pang of guilt. Wu Qiaoqiao had indeed made advances toward him before.

The only reason he could promise Zhao Nuanyue with such conviction was that he had flatly rejected Wu Qiaoqiao’s overtures. He had also been actively avoiding her; whenever she appeared, he would make sure to have several people with him to maintain his distance.

Little Red Carp kept grinning. Clever as she was, she had of course sensed Wu Qiaoqiao’s hostility and jealousy, which was why she hadn’t interrupted while her sister was speaking with her brother-in-law.

It was only after Hua Yusen’s repeated assurances, when the atmosphere had grown a little stiff, that Little Red Carp’s cheerful laughter became the perfect antidote to the tension.

"Brother-in-law, you’re the best! I wish I could take a piece of cake home!" Little Red Carp seized the chance to make her request. Other things could be bought elsewhere, but not this cake. Since her brother-in-law had extended an olive branch, she certainly wasn’t going to refuse.

"Just one piece? That’s not enough. Your brother-in-law will buy you a whole cake to take home!" Hua Yusen said. "Nuanyang, what about you? Is there anything you want? Just say the word."

"I’m good, Brother-in-law!" Zhao Nuanyang shook his head and smiled, looking down. He had no intention of getting involved in the lover’s quarrel between his sister and brother-in-law.

Of course, Hua Yusen couldn’t neglect Zhao Nuanyue. He turned to her and asked, "Nuanyue, what about you? Is there anything you’d like?"

"No, that’s alright. A whole cake for Little Red Carp is more than enough for everyone," Zhao Nuanyue said, shaking her head. It wasn’t the food and drinks she cared about, but Hua Yusen’s attitude.

Seeing that the tone and look in Zhao Nuanyue’s eyes had returned to normal, Hua Yusen finally relaxed. ’Still,’ he thought, ’that jealous, slightly indignant look she had just now was actually quite cute.’

The reason she got so jealous and made those biting remarks was because of him, after all.

And what man wouldn’t be happy to be cared for so deeply by the woman he loves? Hua Yusen certainly was!

After their meal, Hua Yusen led Zhao Nuanyue, Little Red Carp, and the others out of the Friendship Restaurant. He made a point of taking a route that bypassed Wu Qiaoqiao and Wu Jingjing’s table, not wanting to upset Zhao Nuanyue again.

Just as they were about to exit, Zhao Nuanyue glanced back. Sure enough, she saw Wu Qiaoqiao looking in their direction.

Their gazes clashed across the dozens of meters separating them, neither willing to back down.

There was no triumph in Zhao Nuanyue’s eyes, nor was there disdain in Wu Qiaoqiao’s. Yet, in that instant, sparks of animosity flew between them.

Zhao Nuanyue would never allow anyone to lay a finger on Hua Yusen. ’Not a woman, and certainly not a man!’

Wu Qiaoqiao, for her part, secretly cemented her resolve. She was determined to have Hua Yusen.

Zhao Nuanyue linked her arm through Hua Yusen’s and walked out, leaving Wu Qiaoqiao with nothing but the sight of her elegant, swaying figure.

Though she appeared calm on the surface, Zhao Nuanyue’s heart was fluttering with anxiety. She knew without a doubt that Hua Yusen loved her, but she also understood that such an outstanding man was destined for an extraordinary life. Many women would be drawn to his name and throw themselves at him.

This Wu Qiaoqiao, for instance. She wouldn’t be the first, and she certainly wouldn’t be the last.

Zhao Nuanyue understood this perfectly.

As for Guo Dongmei, Hua Yusen’s former fiancée, the engagement was off. She might regret it in the future, but she was no longer a threat.

But Wu Qiaoqiao was clearly a different breed from Guo Dongmei. She concealed her intentions much more carefully, making her impossible to guard against.

At this thought, Zhao Nuanyue sighed internally. ’Loving an outstanding man is so much trouble.’ Not only did she have to fend off other women, but she also had to constantly improve herself on the inside and maintain her appearance on the outside, all to ensure Hua Yusen’s love for her would never waver.

Hearing Zhao Nuanyue’s faint sigh beside him, Hua Yusen seized a moment when his younger brother-in-law and sister-in-law were laughing up ahead to sneak a kiss on her forehead.

"I only love Zhao Nuanyue," Hua Yusen said softly. "So, from now on, no more sighing and no more doubting. Please, trust me."

"Okay, I trust you," Zhao Nuanyue nodded, and returned his kiss.

All her previous insecurity vanished, replaced by a surge of confidence. She, Zhao Nuanyue, had been given a second chance at life. Of course she would continue to improve herself and strive to be a partner who could stand with Hua Yusen through thick and thin.

Although Hua Yusen had tried to be discreet, how could someone as perceptive as Little Red Carp not know what was happening behind her?

’But this is a good thing,’ she thought. ’The better my sister and brother-in-law get along, the more delicious food I get to eat!’

In a little foodie’s world, there was no problem that good food couldn’t solve!

In the afternoon, they went to visit Old Sir Qian and Old Madam Qian. They stayed for dinner and didn’t head home until it was dark.

Little Red Carp had gone to several places that day, eaten the cake she had been dreaming about, and even gotten to take a large one home. She was absolutely thrilled.

With Little Red Carp in high spirits, she naturally wouldn’t make things difficult for her brother-in-law. Once they got home, she quickly washed up and hopped into bed.

Zhao Nuanyang was old enough to know better than to deliberately disturb his sister and brother-in-law.

So, Hua Yusen boiled some water. While Zhao Nuanyue washed up, he filled all the thermoses in the house and carried them into their bedroom, along with a basin and a jug of cold water.

That way, after certain... nocturnal activities, they could wash up right in their room.

"Don’t you think bringing all this in here is a bit much?" Zhao Nuanyue asked, not knowing whether to laugh or cry as she watched Hua Yusen arrange everything in their bedroom.

"Not at all. It saves us from having to go out in the middle of the night. It’s so cold, I’d worry about you catching a chill," Hua Yusen said softly, his gaze lingering on Zhao Nuanyue with a deeper meaning. "I’ll take care of it when I get up in the morning."

Zhao Nuanyue smiled, then raised an eyebrow in response to his suggestive gaze.

"When our finances are better and the policies allow it, I want to renovate the bedroom and install an en-suite bathroom. That would make things much more convenient at night," Zhao Nuanyue said with a smile. "Then we wouldn’t have to deal with the trouble of carrying basins back and forth!"
