Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Chapter 431: A Concerted Effort

Chapter 431: Chapter 431: A Concerted Effort

Chen Lei’s eyes lit up. It was a great idea; the information Zhao Nuanyue had provided was incredibly useful.

"Thank you so much," Chen Lei said. "If we catch all of them, I’ll make sure you get credit for this." With that, he led his men away to check tickets. Using the inspection as a pretext, he took a look for himself and saw that everything was just as Zhao Nuanyue had described.

Chen Lei then went over to Zhao Nuan Yang’s side, found Zhang Hong and Li Wei, and quietly explained the situation in the car. Zhang Hong nodded, agreeing to help Chen Lei apprehend the human traffickers.

Zhao Nuan Yang was thrilled. ’I practice martial arts every morning but I’ve never known how skilled I’ve become. Maybe I can finally help.’

However, Li Wei shot Zhao Nuan Yang a look and whispered, "Your sister’s in the dining car. Go over there and protect them."

Zhao Nuan Yang had wanted to be a hero, but after hearing Li Wei’s words, he suddenly grew worried about his sisters. He nodded and said, "Okay, I’m on my way."

’Fighting for justice is one thing,’ Zhao Nuan Yang thought, ’but nothing is more important than my sisters.’

After Zhao Nuan Yang left, Li Wei and Zhang Hong waited for the right moment to move, awaiting Chen Lei’s command.

Chen Lei had already assembled four people to approach from both ends of the car. Meanwhile, Li Wei and Zhang Hong, using the excuse of needing the restroom, also gradually closed in on the two men.

The two men were highly alert. ’They just checked our tickets. Why are so many staff members coming over now?’ But then they recalled how many times their method had worked on trains, succeeding every single time without fail. This thought made them confident.

As Zhang Hong brushed past Chen Lei, the two exchanged a nod. Chen Lei held up five fingers. In the span of five breaths, Zhang Hong and Li Wei subdued the two middle-aged men with lightning speed.

"Who are you people? What right do you have to grab us?" one of the men screamed.

Zhang Hong narrowed his eyes and dislocated the man’s jaw, silencing him instantly. The other man was so frightened he didn’t dare make a sound, trembling uncontrollably.

Chen Lei and the other five train police subdued the three middle-aged women and took the children from their arms.

The woman’s face was pale with fear, and her whole body trembled.

One of the women, who was older and more composed, shouted loudly, "They’re kidnapping children! Kidnapping!"

Hearing the word "kidnapping," the other passengers immediately stood up and looked over.

"What right do you have to take my child? Are you powerful people trying to eat my baby’s heart and lungs to extend your own lives?! You’ll all die a horrible death!" Seeing the passengers’ curiosity, the woman continued to shriek.

Chen Lei shot a look at the train policeman restraining her, and the officer immediately covered the woman’s mouth.

When Chen Lei saw that the passengers were blocking the aisle, he immediately addressed the crowd. "Fellow passengers! These three women boarded the train with these children over ten hours ago. In all that time, the babies have done nothing but sleep, without a single cry. Don’t you find that strange? We aren’t taking their children; we suspect them of being human traffickers. Please, trust the train police. We won’t wrongly accuse an innocent person, but we won’t let a single criminal escape, either."

As soon as Chen Lei spoke, it was as if a light bulb went off for the passengers sitting nearby. One of them nodded and said, "That’s right, the babies haven’t cried at all. I was just praising how well-behaved they were. But they’re only seven or eight months old. How could they possibly be this quiet, without making a single sound!"

"Yes, yes, I haven’t heard them cry either."

"Those despicable human traffickers!"

"Let’s see what’s in this bag." Chen Lei then grabbed one of their large bags, pulled out some milk powder, and then a box of pills. "My God... this... these are sleeping pills, just as we suspected. Everyone, make way! We need to take them in for questioning."

The crowd was now convinced. There were plenty of other people with children in the car; why were only *their* babies not crying? And why would the police target them specifically? Obviously, it was because they were suspicious!

At that moment, two short men, seeing that the three women and two middle-aged men had been captured, began to sneak away, not daring to stay. When one of the captive women saw the two men leaving, she screamed, "Don’t go! You can’t just abandon us!"

Chen Lei’s eyes followed the woman’s gaze and spotted two figures trying to escape.

"I’ll get them!" Chen Lei shouted immediately, taking off after them.

However, the two short men weaved through the crowded car with ease. The much taller Chen Lei, on the other hand, was slowed by the crush of people and couldn’t catch them.

Soon, the two short men fled into the dining car. Seeing their panicked faces, Zhao Nuanyue quickly pulled Little Red Carp into a corner. Zhao Nuan Yang stood protectively in front of his sisters. Just as the two slender men rushed past, he stuck out his foot. The man in the lead went down with a THUD, groaning in pain. As he tried to get back up, the man behind him tripped too, landing right on top of him.

"AAARGH!" The man on the bottom let out a howl like a pig being slaughtered, drawing the attention of everyone in the dining car.

No one, however, had seen Zhao Nuan Yang stick his foot out.

Chen Lei caught up from behind. Seeing the men sprawled on the floor, he didn’t waste time asking who had helped; he immediately slapped handcuffs on them.

He wasn’t sure if these two were part of the same gang as the other traffickers, but their behavior was too strange. ’If they didn’t have a guilty conscience, why would they run?’ It didn’t matter what crime they had committed. The priority was to arrest them now and question them thoroughly later.

Such was a hallmark of the times.

Crude, perhaps, but often quite effective.

As the two slender men were led away, they shot a vicious glare at Zhao Nuan Yang. ’It was that damned kid who stuck his leg out and tripped us. If it weren’t for him, those losers never would’ve caught us.’

Zhao Nuan Yang narrowed his eyes at the slender man, then his eyes suddenly widened. The sheer intensity in his gaze made the man flinch and quickly lower his head, not daring to meet his eyes again.

Little Red Carp knew these were all bad people. She decided to use a little Spell, one that would ensure that once they got to the interrogation room, they would confess everything without holding anything back. ’Maybe this way,’ she thought, ’they can find more clues and save more children.’

After the traffickers had been taken away to the interrogation room, Zhang Hong and Li Wei came to the dining car to find Zhao Nuanyue and the others. It was nearly dinnertime, so they decided to eat there before heading back to their seats.

’The capture of the traffickers went exceptionally smoothly,’ Zhao Nuanyue thought, surprised.

’But this is a good thing,’ she continued to herself. ’As long as it helps rescue more children, it proves my information was effective.’

After the incident with the traffickers, the other passengers in the car held their own children tightly, as if terrified someone would snatch them away.
