The Abandoned Daughter's Second Chance

Chapter 612 - 528: Terrified

Chapter 612: Chapter 528: Terrified

But Xiao Man wasn’t there. No matter how Wu Xiaowen cried and screamed, "I’m Tang Manman’s birth mother! I’m seriously injured, bring Tang Manman here!" not a single person came forward to tell her where Tang Manman had gone or why she hadn’t appeared.

Tang Qingyun had used some of the family’s resources to transfer Wu Xiaowen, so Grandma Tang quickly found out. She simply dispatched more people to confine Wu Xiaowen to a hospital room, leaving her to scream all she wanted, as long as she stewed in her own noise. Not a peep was allowed to escape the room. ’Even though my eldest granddaughter doesn’t care, a bad influence is like polluted air,’ she thought. ’It’s best not to let it spread freely!’

’My second son is being a fool again. I’ll remember this. He’s in for a scolding when he gets home. So indecisive and soft-hearted. That’s how Lin Aizhen and Wu Xiaowen have him wrapped around their little fingers!’

Sun Yiming had been performing major surgeries for several days straight and needed a break. But then he heard from a subordinate that a woman was causing a huge scene in the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. The word was that she was Doctor Tang’s birth mother, and with members of the Tang family standing guard nearby, he figured it must be true. He rushed over and, with a calm and gentle demeanor, began to soothe Wu Xiaowen. When someone next to her explained that this young Vice Director Sun was a foreign-trained medical doctor with exquisite skills, she stopped insisting on waiting for Xiao Man and agreed to be treated by him. Sun Yiming carefully examined her injuries, including the three knife wounds on her cheek, and confidently gave Ms. Wu his word: he could definitely heal her face. The scars would gradually fade, and her original beauty would be restored.

Wu Xiaowen breathed a sigh of relief. Exhausted, she stopped causing a scene. She had a soft spot for refined, handsome men with a gentlemanly air like Sun Yiming. His presence put her at ease, so she had him stay in her room and talk with her for a long while. She didn’t fall into a quiet sleep until her eyes grew too heavy to keep open.

Tang Qingyun had long since left the hospital. His family had sent people over, moved Wu Xiaowen’s room to the most secluded corner of the hospital, and now stood silently guarding the door. They let no one but doctors and nurses enter. How could he not understand what was happening? With guards now in place, he had taken the opportunity to hurry home and plead his case with his mother.

Wu Xiaowen had only been asleep for less than half an hour when a nightmare jolted her awake. She shrieked and cried out for Tang Qingyun. The men at the door were only responsible for security and ignored her pleas. A private nurse went in to check on her, but Wu Xiaowen grabbed the water glass and medicine bottles from the nightstand and hurled them at the nurse. She cursed and screamed, "Are you here to hurt me? How much did Wu Xiaorui pay you?! She bribed that little bitch Wu Qin to kill me, and now she’s sent another strange face..."

The corner of the private nurse’s mouth twitched as she dodged the flying objects. ’Was the trauma so great that she’s developed a persecution complex? We’re in a hospital, and there are security guards watching the door around the clock. Who could possibly harm her?!’

It was no wonder Wu Xiaowen was so hysterical and frantic. Wu Xiaorui had been vicious with her in the past. The sisters had gotten into several knockdown, drag-out fights, but Wu Xiaowen, being the weaker of the two, had only ever been beaten until she was sore and afraid. She’d never found it truly terrifying. Wu Qin’s actions last night, however, had scared her out of her wits.

Yesterday, Wu Qin had asked her for some money, saying she was going to the Xinhua Bookstore and a stationery shop. With the college entrance exams approaching, she needed to buy some new supplies. Shortly after Wu Qin left, Wu Xiaowen finished getting ready and went downstairs. Since it was Sunday and she had nothing better to do, she had arranged to meet a friend to check out the new clothing collections.

When she returned from her shopping trip, the man at the gate, Old Sun, called out to her. He handed her a backpack and asked if it belonged to her daughter. He said a young man had just dropped it off, claiming her daughter had gotten drunk with some people at the Junyi Hotel and that she should hurry over and take a look.

Old Sun was a retired employee from their work unit and carried himself with the air of a respected elder. As he spoke, he gave Wu Xiaowen a reproachful look, as if to ask what kind of parent she was. ’Her daughter is still a student, yet she’s allowed to go drinking and dining at a hotel? Isn’t she afraid her child will fall in with a bad crowd?!’

Wu Xiaowen felt a flash of embarrassment. The backpack did look familiar—it really seemed to be Wu Qin’s. She hurriedly thanked Old Sun. To show that she was taking this seriously and was very worried, she didn’t even bother going upstairs. She left her shopping bags and the backpack in Old Sun’s gatehouse, walked to the side of the road, and hailed a taxi. "To the Junyi Hotel," she told the driver.

’Wu Qin is so unreliable, always causing trouble,’ she grumbled internally. At the same time, she was curious. ’Who in the world did that girl go to a fancy hotel to drink with? She went out with twenty yuan, how could she dare step foot in a place like that? Even if they let her in, she couldn’t have afforded anything. This is the Junyi Hotel we’re talking about. Forget alcohol, even a plain glass of juice costs a fortune there.’

When she got out of the taxi at the entrance to the Junyi Hotel, a refined-looking young man in a hotel uniform immediately approached her and asked if she was Ms. Wu Xiaowen. She nodded, and the young man led her inside. His every move was the epitome of a professional hotel attendant—respectful and polite, neither fawning nor arrogant. On the way, he even nodded in greeting to other staff members they encountered.

At the time, Wu Xiaowen only registered that the attendant guiding her had an excellent demeanor that put her at ease. It never occurred to her to wonder how a complete stranger could recognize her as "Ms. Wu" on sight. How could he have known who she was looking for and so accurately direct her to a specific private room, inviting her inside? Later, when Bai Lihua asked who had brought her to them, it was as if that attendant had never existed. No matter how she described him, nobody recognized the description. The manager even came to personally investigate but couldn’t find a single trace of the man.

For the first time ever, Bai Lihua lost his temper with Wu Xiaowen. He stormed off in a fury, completely ignoring both her and her daughter.

The men at the dinner that day were all key personnel from various units he did business with. Normally, these gatherings were just for eating, drinking, and talking shop. But halfway through, beautiful women were inexplicably brought in—all of them voluptuous, seductive, and flirtatious. One of the guests, emboldened by drink, immediately threw his arm around one of them. The others, spurred on by his example, also threw caution to the wind. ’The host already stepped out to arrange things, so it should be fine...’ he had thought. But who could have predicted that Wu Xiaowen would suddenly burst in and ruin everything? Losing face in front of those men was a minor issue, but what if a real scandal broke out? After all, the more he thought about it, the more suspicious that attendant who appeared out of thin air seemed. ’Didn’t you see how those executives covered their faces and bolted, disappearing faster than rabbits!’

Wu Xiaowen knew she was in the wrong, but she was also filled with a tangled mess of grief, resentment, and fury. She hadn’t wanted to make Bai Lihua angry, but she had seen it with her own two eyes—

The men each had a vampish-looking woman in their arms, but Bai Lihua had one on his left and one on his right. He was whispering intimately with the one on his right, kissing and caressing her, all while keeping his other arm around the one on his left. When she looked closely, she saw that the person pressed against his left side was none other than Wu Qin!

Wu Qin had a cheeky grin on her face as she called out "Brother Bai" in a sickeningly sweet, simpering voice, her arms clinging tightly to his neck!

How could Wu Xiaowen not fly into a rage at such a sight? She wished she could have torn those shameless hussies to pieces right then and there. Flipping the table and slapping that little vixen a couple of times was letting them off easy!

Bai Lihua claimed he was only protecting Wu Qin. He said she had one glass of champagne and got so drunk she couldn’t recognize anyone. She was swaying and couldn’t even sit up straight; if he hadn’t held onto her, she would have fallen to the floor.

Wu Xiaowen didn’t believe a word of it. ’Wu Qin is a grown young woman!’

’Bai Lihua is my man! No! I will absolutely not allow this!’
