Chapter 89: Chapter 81: Wilderness Survival
Tang Mo lay there stiffly, staring up at the sky. The starry sky, she had to admit, was actually quite beautiful tonight.
All she hoped for now was that the teeth of the approaching mutant beast wouldn’t be too sharp. Ideally, it would bite her carotid artery first, let her be good and dead before it started eating her flesh.
She’d been given a new life, and even though it turned out to be a short one, it was still a bonus.
’Ah, I really wish I could call Mom and Qin Ling one last time. They’ll be sad if I just suddenly die, won’t they?’
Tang Mo closed her eyes.
Suddenly, she felt a furry touch in her palm.
’Is this some kind of pre-meal ritual for mutant beasts? Do we have to hold hands before I get eaten?’
Tang Mo opened her eyes and struggled to look down at her palm.
A fluffy little paw was tentatively poking and prodding at her hand.
It was...
A small, fluffy, silver fox was nestled beside Tang Mo’s hand.
It was the one from the Alliance Beast Fighting Arena. Tang Mo clearly remembered this Little Fox—the one with poison on its claws.
’A mutant beast this small probably doesn’t eat people, right?’ Tang Mo wondered.
She watched as the Little Fox’s paw scraped something from her palm and stuffed it into its mouth.
It was the Crystal Core powder left on her hand from her earlier absorption.
’This Little Fox likes Crystal Cores?’
Tang Mo quickly understood the Little Fox’s intention.
This spot was near the forest’s exit. If she could get this fox to bring someone to her, she might have a chance to survive.
Tang Mo recalled what Qin Fen had said: the intelligence of today’s mutant beasts was higher than humans imagined.
So she decided to make one last desperate attempt to save her own life.
With a thought, her spiritual power stirred, and a Crystal Core instantly materialized in her palm.
Though she couldn’t move her hands, she could still retrieve items from her Space.
"Yip!"
The Little Fox’s eyes went wide at the sight of the Crystal Core. Tang Mo could see clear delight on its face.
It immediately clutched the Crystal Core in its paws, holding it close to its belly.
Soon, the Crystal Core in the Little Fox’s grasp turned into a pile of powder.
’Mutant beasts can absorb Crystal Cores now?’
Watching the fox’s series of actions, Tang Mo was truly stunned.
’If even mutant beasts have learned to evolve on their own, what a terrifying thing that would be for the world.’
But obviously, now was not the time to worry about that.
The Little Fox was clearly not satisfied after absorbing a single Basic Crystal Core. It started jumping up and down on Tang Mo’s hand.
But when it couldn’t find a second Crystal Core, the delight on the Little Fox’s face turned to disappointment.
However, it had clearly figured one thing out: the Crystal Core had been conjured by this human.
The Little Fox leaped onto Tang Mo’s chest and nudged her face with its paw, its intention perfectly clear.
Tang Mo blinked.
The Little Fox bounced on her body again.
Tang Mo blinked.
Not giving up, the Little Fox pressed its paws together and bowed at Tang Mo. The pleading gesture was quite comical.
Tang Mo still just blinked.
.bg-ssp-10081{margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;display:flex;justify-content:center;}Tang Mo was helpless, too. She couldn’t speak or tell the fox to go get help. All she could do was blink to try and convey her intentions.
Seeing that the person beneath it remained unmoved, the Little Fox hopped off Tang Mo and began circling her, observing.
Then it scratched its head with a paw, deep in thought.
’Great, it finally gets it.’
Tang Mo’s heart leaped with joy. ’Even if it’s just for the Crystal Cores, the Little Fox must know it needs to get help to save me.’
But Tang Mo waited for a long time, and the Little Fox still didn’t leave.
Instead, as if it had made a great decision, it pulled a small black bead from somewhere on its body.
Tang Mo took a closer look. It wasn’t a bead, but something that looked like a Crystal Core.
It was just much smaller than a normal Crystal Core and was completely black.
She had never heard of such a thing as a black Crystal Core.
She watched as the Little Fox, its face a picture of reluctance, hopped onto her body, hesitating with every step as it cradled the bead.
It then gave a few forceful bounces, as if venting its frustration, before slowly stuffing the Crystal Core into Tang Mo’s mouth.
When Tang Mo didn’t swallow, it made another effort, lifting her chin to help the bead slide down her throat.
Powerless to resist, Tang Mo wept silently in her heart.
She had ended up in this state precisely because she had absorbed too many Crystal Cores, pushing her body past its limit.
’And now it’s feeding me what looks like an even more High-level Crystal Core. Isn’t this just hastening my death?’
’Whatever,’ she thought. ’Exploding to death is still slightly better than being eaten alive by a mutant beast.’
Tang Mo’s life motto: stay optimistic until the very end.
But the pain she imagined never came. Instead, as the Crystal Core descended, Tang Mo felt a powerful, warm current erupt within her.
If the healing from her own spiritual power was a weak trickle of water, then this warm current was a flash flood.
Tang Mo quickly used her spiritual power to observe her body. She saw that as the warm current passed through, her damaged internal organs were the first to be completely repaired.
Then came the blood vessels and meridians...
With every area it passed through and repaired, the warm current grew a little weaker.
After about half an hour, the warm current had circulated through her body three times, repairing every last inch of her, down to the finest detail.
What little remained of the energy then began to settle into various places within Tang Mo’s body, quickly vanishing from sight.
Tang Mo could clearly feel that the energies she had previously been unable to withstand had now, through repeated repair and integration, merged perfectly with her body.
The last remnants of that warm current also raised the strength of her physical constitution to a whole new level.
Tang Mo tentatively wiggled her finger...
It moved!
She then slowly sat up and rolled her neck.
Then she got to her feet and gave a few vigorous jumps.
Her body hadn’t just completely recovered; it felt even better than it had at its peak. She felt like she was brimming with inexhaustible strength and vitality.
’Is this what the Comprehensive Attribute Value brought me?’
It was something to be happy about, but for some reason, Tang Mo’s eyes suddenly reddened.
From the moment she’d woken up, she had been lying alone and paralyzed in a pitch-black, danger-filled jungle.
She had constantly told herself to be strong and not to be afraid, and she had succeeded.
But in truth, she wasn’t that strong. Even as someone who had lived two lives, she had never experienced anything like this. She was, after all, just a girl in her early twenties.
She had disguised herself with strength, and in doing so, had unknowingly become even stronger.
Just as Tang Mo was basking in the joy of surviving the ordeal, she suddenly felt a tug at her pant leg.
Looking down, she saw the Little Fox looking up at her, one paw extended as if asking for something.
