Chapter 144: Chapter 141: Foundation Establishment Auxiliary Material, The Layout of the Immortal City
Inside a guest room at the Immortal Inn.
Three Moonstones were embedded in the walls, casting a bright, silvery glow that illuminated the room as if it were day.
Lin Changheng immediately began to take stock of his spoils.
There were seven Magical Artifacts in total.
The only Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact belonged to the tall Male Cultivator—the Flying Shuttle.
It was astonishingly fast, had decent attack power, and possessed a special Confusion effect that allowed for an Illusion Transformation into three identical shuttles. If Lin Changheng hadn’t had the Earth Escape Demon Technique, distinguishing the real one and blocking it would have been quite troublesome.
"Not bad."
Lin Changheng concluded. Even if it wasn’t an Upper Grade Masterpiece Magical Artifact, it likely wasn’t far off.
Even for a Cultivator who had recently reached the Foundation Establishment Stage but was too poor to afford a Spiritual Artifact, this Magical Artifact would still be quite useful.
However, because Lin Changheng possessed Earth Escape, a rare Magic for the Qi Cultivation Stage, he could move and shift his position underground, making him slippery and hard to track, which rendered the Magical Artifact ineffective against him.
’I can keep it for myself.’
Lin Changheng checked it over once more. Finding no hidden marks or tricks left behind, he happily put it away.
Currently, his only impressive Magical Artifact was the Middle Grade Masterpiece, the Sinking Sand Bag. While it gave him a great advantage against Eighth Layer Qi Cultivation Cultivators, he was at a disadvantage when facing Ninth Layer Qi Cultivation Practitioners who possessed Upper Grade Spiritual Artifacts.
He urgently needed to supplement his arsenal.
...
The rest were all Middle Grade Spiritual Artifacts, three of which were of Masterpiece Quality.
One was the Red Silk Spiritual Artifact used by the Female Cultivator, which was adept at both offense and control.
The second was the tall Male Cultivator’s umbrella-shaped spiritual artifact, which was mainly for Defense. Unfortunately, it had lost a great deal of its Spiritual nature and was badly damaged after taking a hit from Lin Changheng’s Red Sky Profound Flame.
The third belonged to the Rat-bearded Cultivator and had been kept in his Storage Bag. It was a bow and arrow set.
Lin Changheng had thought he never took it out. In reality, the Rat-bearded Cultivator had already nocked an arrow and was about to fire when the Sinking Sand Bag smashed into his face. Forced to react, he had put away the bow and swapped it for a Shield Spiritual Artifact to block the attack. But as it turned out, it was useless. The shield was shattered in a single blow, and the man was killed. In a way, though, this had protected the bow and arrow Magical Artifact from any damage.
He’d done him a favor, in a sense.
’These three probably weren’t ordinary Tribulation Cultivators. Each of them had a Middle Grade Masterpiece Spiritual Artifact, their leader had an Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact, and they even set up an Array...’
Lin Changheng muttered to himself as he looked at the Magical Artifacts.
Ordinary Tribulation Cultivators might coordinate their attacks, but they wouldn’t be this meticulous.
Besides, a Late Stage Qi Cultivation Cultivator’s Magical Power and Divine Thought could only control one Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact at a time. Therefore, most would choose to rely on two Middle Grade Spiritual Artifacts—one for offense and one for defense—for a more well-rounded approach.
They wouldn’t go all-in on a single Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact.
If their power was insufficient and they had some money to spare, they would upgrade one or both of their Middle Grade Spiritual Artifacts to Masterpiece quality.
In a prolonged battle between ordinary Cultivators, this setup performed better than a single Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact. The only exception was in a situation of overwhelming power, where a single Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact could just bulldoze through for a quick kill.
The exception was for Cultivators who were powerful in Magical Combat and had fine control, able to retract and switch Magical Artifacts freely. For them, an Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact was naturally better—just like the tall Cultivator.
...
Of these three Magical Artifacts—the Red Silk, which wasn’t suitable for him, and the damaged umbrella-shaped spiritual artifact—Lin Changheng had no intention of keeping either. He could sell them.
As for the bow and arrow Magical Artifact, Lin Changheng decided to keep it for now. A Masterpiece Middle Grade Attacking Spiritual Artifact, it could be used in combination and alternated with the Upper Grade Flying Shuttle for a potentially miraculous effect.
There were also three other genuine Middle Grade Spiritual Artifacts, but their power was too low to be of much use to Lin Changheng, so he would sell them all.
...
In addition, Lin Changheng also found a special Artifact: the Silver Needle Spiritual Artifact that the Rat-bearded Cultivator had first used in his sneak attack. It was a Middle Grade Masterpiece single-use consumable.
Its power was ordinary, only managing to break through a single layer of a Middle Grade Talisman’s defense, but its advantage was its speed and silence.
It could be used as a hidden weapon, making it nearly impossible to defend against.
However, only two needles remained in the box, which Lin Changheng found to be a great pity.
’And that tall Male Cultivator’s Life-Saving Jade Pendant was crushed. Otherwise, I would’ve had another life-saving measure.’
The Cyan Light Barrier had left a deep impression on Lin Changheng. The screen of light had been dense and its aura profound; even a Masterpiece among Tier One Upper Grade Defense Talismans couldn’t compare.
Yet it had still been shattered in a single blow.
No wonder the tall Male Cultivator had looked so helpless at the end:
He couldn’t break through his opponent’s physical defense, while his own strongest defense was easily shattered. How could he not feel despair?!
Soon, Lin Changheng estimated the approximate price of the Magical Artifacts he planned to sell:
’Around eight hundred Lower Grade Spirit Stones. If that umbrella-shaped spiritual artifact hadn’t been damaged, I probably could have gotten another fifty or sixty Spirit Stones for it.’
After inventorying the Magical Artifacts, Lin Changheng moved on to counting the Spirit Stones.
The Spirit Stones in the Storage Bags of the Rat-bearded Cultivator and the Female Cultivator totaled around five hundred, which both surprised and delighted Lin Changheng.
’Had they not had time to spend it yet?’
Cultivators who lived on the edge like this usually didn’t save up Spirit Stones, instead converting them into tangible power.
This increased their chances of success and survival.
In contrast to the other two, however, the tall Male Cultivator’s Storage Bag was practically empty, containing a mere twenty Spirit Stones.
This was the other extreme—he had spent it all too cleanly.
’Could it be...’
Lin Changheng immediately began to search through the Storage Bag, digging through it as if he were excavating three feet deep.
A long box with an Upper Grade Spirit-Sealing Talisman affixed to it caught his eye.
’Since it’s sealed with an Upper Grade Spirit-Sealing Talisman, the item inside must be quite valuable.’
He carefully opened it and found an amber-colored Spirit Fruit about the size of a baby’s fist, its surface slightly mottled.
His thoughts raced, and Lin Changheng recognized the fruit, a wave of shock and delight washing over him.
"The Jade Marrow Nascent Essence Fruit!"
A rare supplementary ingredient for refining the Foundation Establishment Pill.
