Chapter 1671: Chapter 649: The Key to Unlocking the True Treasure
"I don’t know, I didn’t even have time to read the detailed info packet Bailong released before I got hit with heavy interference. Just now the last thing I received was a single ultra‑simple message they aggregated energy to send out—just one word: ’Run’. You should’ve gotten it too, right?"
Only then did Hundred Emperors snap out of it. It checked its comm auxiliary brain and sure enough, heard a terrified shriek from Bailong.
"Ruuun~"
Hundred Emperors: "Tch, that’s clearly two words!"
Double-eyed Beast: "That’s not the point! The point is: run! Zzzzz..."
All of a sudden, the interference in the information stream ramped up, officially announcing the cutoff of contact between Hundred Emperors and the Double-eyed Beast.
Hundred Emperors muttered to itself, "Wait... what am I supposed to do? What the hell is going on?"
Why did Bailong sound that terrified?
From here on out, Hundred Emperors would have to make its own decisions.
Which was just as well; its mood these days was complicated enough as it was. Hundred Emperors wasn’t actually a total idiot—even stumbling around in the dark, it could still tell what had happened in recent years.
It had never intended to betray the Sublimators. Every move it made was aimed at better lurking within and observing the Red Blade Army, laying groundwork for either annihilating or assimilating the Red Blade Army.
But it couldn’t deny that the Red Blade Army must’ve wrung quite a lot of benefits out of it; otherwise they wouldn’t have the guts right now to stand up to a joint Expeditionary Army dozens of times their size. On paper, that shouldn’t be possible.
So on deeds rather than intent, Hundred Emperors knew it had in fact become the first traitor among the Sublimators in millions of years.
It just didn’t dare, and didn’t want, to lift that lid. It was afraid of triggering the self‑destruct instinct buried in its genetic information, so it could only play dumb while fully aware.
Right now, its best choice would be exactly what the Double-eyed Beast advised: treat it as none of its business, cut all ties, and run—decisively retreat back into Sublimator territory, far from the dangerous Red Blade Army and far from the front lines.
Yet in the dead of its heart, it couldn’t help remembering that "impossible" ideal Shi Lin had sketched out.
Instinctively, Hundred Emperors felt the ideal was ridiculous, in fundamental conflict with its own innate cognition, completely at odds with the ingrained worldview of any of the four major human branches in the Ancient Disk Constant Star System.
Only the currently still‑weak Red Blade Army nursed this laughable ambition.
Which made the Red Blade Army look utterly eccentric, totally unreasonable.
But inexplicably, deep in Hundred Emperors’ subconscious, it felt that the ideal Ren Zhong pursued, as painted by Shi Lin, actually had a certain logic to it.
The reasoning was simple enough: we all started out as humans.
Sure, now there was reproductive isolation, and our forms had diverged hugely—but once upon a time, we were one family.
Besides, the universe is far bigger than just the Ancient Disk Star System.
The nearest Constant Star System was extremely distant, with edge‑to‑edge distance reaching tens of thousands of light years, and between them stretched a swath of absolute cosmic vacuum—within that vacuum lurk invisible cosmic‑spectacle‑class dangers, crossing it is incredibly hard—but if the four sides were willing to put their grudges aside, genuinely unite, and pool all top‑tier tech they each held, then in theory, crossing that gap was possible.
So if they really could go outward, wouldn’t the Sublimators’ future be better? Why must you "secure the interior before venturing beyond"? Why must you dance to the tune set by the Origin of life?
If this were a normal First‑Class Mother Empress, it would never have thoughts this tangled.
A normal Sublimator doesn’t need to worry about its emotions, only needs to act on instinct. Every action is instinct‑driven; it won’t perceive the "same‑species" cognition buried in its subconscious. No one bothers pondering the ancestors or their own Origin; they focus only on the present and firmly believe: if there’s reproductive isolation, then we are definitely not the same species.
Obviously, though Hundred Emperors talked tough, its time spent with Shi Lin, plus the goodwill and kept promises the Red Blade Army had shown by really not killing it, plus Ren Zhong’s heavy reliance on Hmm Wei Wu—all these firsthand experiences had been quietly stirring Hundred Emperors, subtly awakening another layer of its genetic instincts.
This layer of instinct sits deeper and with higher priority than its loyalty to the Sublimators, and even higher than its hatred for the other three branches.
This instinct has incredibly ancient historical roots—never vanished, just buried very deep.
Hundred Emperors itself simply hadn’t realized this.
No one else among the four human branches had realized it either; Ren Zhong hadn’t really thought it through, only had a vague suspicion.
But there’s no doubt: this is the key to ending the four‑nation war, and in a sense, it’s the greatest shared treasure of humanity in the Ancient Disk Star System—now quietly surfacing in the depths of Hundred Emperors’ heart.
In the end, Hundred Emperors still chose to ignore everything and head for the battle zone.
Starting out now, it would need at least twelve years to reach its destination. Hundred Emperors didn’t know if it could make it in time, but so what? It had to go and see. It might be marching to its death, might be reinforcing, or might be... defecting? Oh no, just continuing to serve as a close‑range enemy observer.
...
Hmm Wei Wu had never been this busy.
It was pacing all over the highest Command Flagship, continuously pulling up the latest battle‑situation analyses submitted by subordinates.
Red Blade Marquis Ren Zhong was also continuously producing new war‑situation forecasts from some mysterious channel. Every time he made a prediction, it dramatically reshaped Hmm Wei Wu’s overall operational Plan, leaving Hmm Wei Wu in a blissful kind of distress.
On the eve of war, it had assumed Ren Zhong would haul out those senior veterans whose rank sequence was higher than its own, so that it, the Acting Marshal, could gracefully step back to the second line and avoid the psychological torture.
Unexpectedly, that never happened. It really did get officially confirmed as Marshal in wartime, responsible for drafting the entire offensive plan.
The passive traitor was finally going to actively fight its mother‑species, becoming a true traitor.
By this point, Hmm Wei Wu finally saw a more detailed battle report from their own intelligence.
It and the other Fur‑Whisker folk had put on protective suits specially tailored by the Red Blade Science Academy and had taken the custom vaccines in advance.
Those vaccines weren’t any sort of high‑tech marvel; they were basically the same principle as rabies vaccines. They weren’t hard to develop: as long as you got your hands on original samples of the Dust Virus and read the backdoor genes embedded in the Dust Virus, you could produce immune proteins sufficient to block the Dust Virus from wandering between different neurons.
These immune proteins could last for two to three years, after which you’d need another injection to maintain immunity.
But while it sounds simple, the difficulty lay in the original samples and in reading the genetic information of the virus body in its Energy State.
"A virus! So it’s a virus! How did I never think of that! No, how come back in the Mechanical Empire nobody ever thought of this, or managed to pull it off?"
"Damn it, we’re biological beings! No matter how formidable the Mother Empress Ship, even the Founder, they’re still biological! This is just..."
