Chapter 557: Chapter 236: Refinement of the Blood Crystal, Then It’s Settled
’What the hell does "owe me for now" even mean? I don’t quite understand what you’re saying.’
The two exchanged bewildered glances, then instantly realized it was all a misunderstanding.
"No problem! It’s a deal!"
Xiao Chen immediately jumped in. He didn’t care if it was a misunderstanding; he had to lock in the deal first. The matter of the Spirit Fruit could be discussed later.
"Alright!"
Su Li’s eyes brightened. "Then it’s settled."
After speaking, she didn’t haggle over the Spirit Fruit issue. Instead, she continued to stare at Xiao Chen, as if trying to commit his face to memory.
’Is that it? Is the deal done?’
’So who’s giving the Spirit Fruit to whom?’
Xiao Chen looked at Su Li, who seemed to be lost in thought again, and was just about to ask for clarification.
"I..."
But Su Li spoke first. She paused for a moment, pressing her red lips together firmly. "I have something I want to say. It might be a rather boring story, but... would you like to hear it?"
A clear look of anticipation filled her eyes.
It had been far too long since she’d had someone to talk to.
"Of course!"
Xiao Chen nodded and, with a flick of his wrist, produced two jugs of Moonlight Wine. "I’m all ears."
Come to think of it, he had gotten these two jugs of wine back at the Qingyang Spirit Ore mine in Hezhou. He’d just let them sit without drinking them, and now they felt a bit unworthy of the occasion.
Of course, he had higher quality Spirit Wine in his Storage Ring—the White Jade Little Cyan Dragon he’d bought in Hundred Herbs City.
But that stuff could easily reveal he was from the Inner Sea, so it was better not to.
The night was filled with conversation.
By the next morning, Xiao Chen finally understood about Su Li’s Nine Yin Calamity Spirit Body and the Moon Eclipse Spell she carried.
And the reason she was on Silent Calamity Island.
"You’re saying there’s an Inspection Array outside?"
Xiao Chen was a little surprised. ’Doesn’t that mean I was exposed long ago? And I’ll be exposed again when I leave?’
"It doesn’t matter. They don’t care if other people come and go from here."
Su Li, however, was well aware of the situation. "That Array is meant for me. Unless I try to leave, it’s just for show."
’Fair enough.’
Xiao Chen was hardly surprised by such things anymore.
’I should probably thank them for their negligence. Otherwise, if a Nascent Soul True Monarch had shown up to drive me away immediately, I never would have had the chance to get any Blood Crystals.’
"Well, I think I’ll stop my story there for now."
Su Li stood up to face the rising sun. The morning light washed over the side of her face, outlining her flowing white hair with a faint golden edge.
She turned her head to look at Xiao Chen, as if she had a question to ask.
But though she opened her mouth, no sound came out.
"Hm?"
Xiao Chen asked curiously, "What did you say?"
Su Li shook her head slightly. "Nothing."
She looked toward the stone house. "Could I ask you for one more favor?"
Xiao Chen asked, "What is it?"
"Can you help me finish carving the second statue?"
Su Li blinked. "The kind without any payment."
Even though she could now see a glimmer of hope for resolving her curse, she still wanted a new statue. Perhaps after a hundred years, it had simply become a habit.
"No problem!"
Xiao Chen nodded. "As long as you don’t mind if my carving is ugly."
’It was part of our agreement anyway. Since I took the Moon-Dyed Jade Marrow Ganoderma, I might as well finish the job.’
’Come to think of it, if I’d known I could get Blood Crystals, I wouldn’t have plucked that newly matured Jade Marrow Ganoderma.’
’It’s not a big deal, though. Three of them should be enough to refine a batch of finished Elixirs.’
’When I attempt to break through to the Nascent Soul realm in the future, I have to be fully prepared. As long as I can trade for one Rank-Breaking Spirit Pill, that should be enough.’
For the next month, Xiao Chen stayed on the island, chatting with Su Li in between his cultivation sessions.
Whether it was to study the curse or simply to obtain more Blood Crystals, he needed to experience at least one more Lunar Eclipse.
Days spent cultivating always passed quickly.
In the blink of an eye, a month went by.
The fifteenth of the month was fast approaching again.
