Chapter 467: Chapter 467: Paper Puppets
Su Qing smiled faintly, standing there without speaking. It was late at night, and the area around the derelict factory was pitch-black. Only the courtyard was lit by a few hanging lamps. The flickering light played across her face, adding to her beauty.
’What a pity,’ Ye Yuefeng thought. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Quite fearless, aren’t you? Little girl, today I’ll teach you what happens when you overestimate yourself."
With that, Ye Yuefeng said to the men around him, "She’s all yours."
In Ye Yuefeng’s eyes, Su Qing was just an ordinary person. The fact that she could follow Da Yao and Er Yao here simply meant she had some decent skills and was good at hiding. But no matter how skilled a young woman was, she could never overcome several grown men.
"Yes, Lord Ye Yue." Hearing Ye Yuefeng’s words, the eyes of the Japanese men glinted with malice as they stared at Su Qing with ill intent. ’This girl is to be offered to Lord Qiutian, but surely there’s no harm in us having a little fun first, right?’
Without another word, the men lunged at Su Qing.
Su Qing sneered. She extended her hand, and a long whip formed from dry branches materialized in her grasp. She cracked it viciously. She hadn’t planned on letting any of them go tonight, so there was no reason to hide her abilities.
"AHH—" Amid several bloodcurdling screams, the men were viciously lashed by the whip and sent flying. They collapsed to the ground, rolling in agony before staring at Su Qing in terror and scrambling backward.
’This... this girl isn’t an ordinary person at all! What kind of ordinary person can just conjure a whip out of dry branches?!’
"L-Lord Ye Yue... She... she..." one of them stammered, trying to hide behind Ye Yuefeng. ’This girl’s methods are so bizarre. I only took one lash, but the wound hurts so much I feel like I’m going crazy.’
"Useless!" Ye Yuefeng kicked the man away and narrowed his eyes at Su Qing. "Who are you?"
In his years in Hua Country, Ye Yuefeng had encountered many of its gifted individuals and experts. He had even interacted with several Feng Shui Masters from Xiangcheng. But he had never seen abilities like Su Qing’s before.
Conjuring a whip out of thin air!
’What school does this fighting style belong to?’
"The one who’s here to deal with you," Su Qing snorted, lashing her whip toward Ye Yuefeng.
Ye Yuefeng gritted his teeth. "Insolent!"
Then, Ye Yuefeng drew a Japanese blade and slashed at Su Qing’s whip.
However, the Japanese blade hit nothing but air. The whip suddenly changed direction in mid-air, abruptly extending as it coiled toward Ye Yuefeng from another angle.
A chill went down Ye Yuefeng’s spine. In all his years, he had never seen such a bizarre ability. Without a second thought, he ducked and rolled, barely dodging the whip of dry branches. He then casually tossed several paper figures toward Su Qing.
The moment they appeared, the paper figures latched onto the whip and began crawling up it toward Su Qing, letting out piercing wails as they moved.
Su Qing glanced at Ye Yuefeng and saw his lips moving slightly, as if he were chanting a Spell. As he continued, the paper figures moved faster, and their cries grew even more shrill. It was a good thing there were no houses nearby; otherwise, hearing such piercing cries in the middle of the night would have terrified someone.
Others might be afraid, but Su Qing was not. She gave a cold laugh. With a slight twitch of her fingers, countless vines sprouted from the branch whip, tightly entangling the paper figures. Then, she gave a sharp tug.
However, the vines failed to tear the paper figures to shreds, only making their wails more piercing.
Ye Yuefeng sneered. "My puppets? You think a little girl like you can destroy them? Hah! In your dreams!"
After he spoke, Ye Yuefeng waved his Japanese blade. The paper figures instantly shattered, escaping the bondage of the vines. The fragments then reassembled into new paper figures and leaped through the air toward Su Qing.
Su Qing raised an eyebrow slightly. ’So, this must be one of the techniques of a Japanese Onmyoji. They really are more formidable than the Feng Shui Masters I’ve met in Xiangcheng. To think they can control paper figures remotely like this.’
Though she was thinking, Su Qing’s hands didn’t slow. With a gentle wave, Ye Yuefeng watched a green wall rise before her.
There were many cypress trees around the derelict factory, and Su Qing had woven their branches and leaves into a wall. The paper figures couldn’t stop in time and slammed into it. Cypress leaves are naturally needle-like, and now, empowered by Su Qing’s superpower, they became even sharper. They pierced straight through the paper figures, pinning them to the wall. Immobilized, the paper figures immediately began to struggle.
"Hmph, a petty trick," Ye Yuefeng sneered. But before he could reform the paper figures, wisps of gray mist began to spread from the wall. The moment the mist touched the paper figures, they stopped struggling. Simultaneously, Ye Yuefeng felt his connection to them sever. He was shocked. He could only watch as the paper figures turned a dull gray and crumbled into dust.
Su Qing raised an eyebrow slightly. ’It actually worked. I didn’t expect my gray mist to have this kind of effect. I was just trying it out, and it succeeded immediately. Does this count as unlocking a new skill?’
Su Qing was in a great mood for unlocking a new skill, but Ye Yuefeng was not nearly as pleased.
"You bastard!" Ye Yuefeng flew into a rage at the sight. He could tear up and reform his own puppets, but he couldn’t tolerate someone else destroying them like this.
Enraged, Ye Yuefeng released several more paper figures. These, however, were different from the previous ones. They had a metallic sheen and glinted with a strange, cold light under the flickering lamps. A closer look revealed they had sharp, black fingernails that gave off a dark gleam. The sight created a truly terrifying atmosphere in the dim surroundings.
At the very least, when the other Japanese men saw Ye Yuefeng release these paper figures, their faces paled. They scrambled to hide in the corners, terrified of being caught in the crossfire.
"You damn girl! Since you destroyed my puppets, don’t blame me for what comes next," Ye Yuefeng ground out, glaring at Su Qing. He silently chanted a Spell, and the metallic paper figures pounced on the cypress wall, their sharp claws raking viciously at it. This time, however, the cypress branches and leaves failed to pierce their bodies.
With every swipe of the metallic figures’ claws against the wall, the cypress leaves they touched withered, crumbled into dust, and fell to the ground.
