Chapter 538: Rejection

Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Rejection

"Young Master Meng, we meet again," Su Qing said, looking at Meng Chenghui calmly.

Meng Chenghui saw that Su Qing didn’t take his flowers, instead offering only a detached greeting. He knew then that she was unwilling to accept his confession.

But who was Meng Chenghui? He was a famous playboy in Xiangcheng. He had dated so many women and had seen all sorts of their little quirks. There had been others like Su Qing who weren’t interested in him at first, but didn’t they all end up surrendering to his gentle advances?

So, Meng Chenghui wasn’t bothered by Su Qing’s coldness. Instead, he smiled and said, "Su Qing, I know my arrival today is sudden, and I don’t expect you to accept my feelings right away. But I’m sincere about you. I hope you can give me a chance, an opportunity to pursue you. I truly hope to walk down the aisle with you one day."

Su Qing couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. ’Is this Meng Chenghui for real?’

"Young Master Meng, we’re both adults. Don’t joke with me. Since you’ve looked into me, you should know that I’m not interested in you," Su Qing said coolly.

Meng Chenghui looked at Su Qing with deep affection. "Su Qing, I know my past is a bit promiscuous. It’s understandable that you don’t approve. I get it. But this time, I’m truly sincere about you. I hope you can give me one chance. Just watch how I act. If I don’t satisfy you, you can reject me then, okay?"

Meng Chenghui’s affectionate gaze also held a hint of anticipation.

Su Qing’s intuition told her that Meng Chenghui was being sincere. ’This Young Master Meng can’t actually be serious, can he?’ she thought to herself. She didn’t know him well, but she had heard a little about him from Cheng Beilin. The guy was a classic, wealthy playboy, the type who flits from woman to woman without ever getting attached. His longest relationships never even lasted six months. Afterwards, Meng Chenghui would pay a large sum of money for them to part on good terms before moving on to his next target.

However, even if Meng Chenghui was being sincere, Su Qing had no intention of giving him a chance. "I’m sorry, Young Master Meng, but I’m really not interested in you. I’m focusing on my studies right now and don’t plan on getting into a relationship."

With that, Su Qing glanced at the bicycles and flowers behind him. "As for these gestures, I’m afraid I can’t accept them."

"Su Qing, I really do like you," Meng Chenghui said affectionately. "I’ve liked you since the first time we met in Xiangcheng. You are the wife I’ve always dreamed of, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with."

Su Qing smiled. "Young Master Meng, if I remember correctly, the first time we met, you were in a clothing store buying clothes for your girlfriend."

Meng Chenghui clearly recalled their first meeting as well, and he couldn’t help but feel a flicker of annoyance toward Kang Ziweng. It was because of Kang Ziweng that Su Qing’s first impression of him hadn’t been very good. On top of that, Kang Ziweng had pestered him several times afterward, wanting to be his girlfriend. But ever since meeting Su Qing, how could he possibly still have eyes for Kang Ziweng? Of course, he had refused.

"Uh, Su Qing, I told you back then, I just knew that Miss Kang. She wasn’t my girlfriend. She never was," Meng Chenghui tried to explain himself.

"Regardless, I’m telling you clearly: I will not date you. Go back to Xiangcheng. There is absolutely no possibility between us," Su Qing said, her tone decisive.

"Su Qing." Meng Chenghui wanted to try again, but when he saw her cold eyes, the words he wanted to say suddenly got stuck in his throat. After a pause, he smiled at her and said, "Su Qing, sorry to have bothered you today. However, I’m not someone who gives up easily. I am completely sincere. I hope that one day, when you can feel my sincerity, you’ll give me a chance."

After speaking, he smiled at Su Qing again. Before she could say anything, he motioned to the boys behind him, and they left, pushing the bicycles.

Su Qing watched Meng Chenghui’s retreating back and couldn’t help but frown. ’Meng Chenghui doesn’t have any ill intentions toward me. I can’t just beat him up because he likes me and is persistent in his pursuit, can I?’

Su Qing’s brows furrowed deeply. ’Matters of the heart really are too troublesome.’

Meanwhile, the girls watching from upstairs saw that Su Qing had rejected Meng Chenghui’s advances and began whispering among themselves. Some admired Su Qing for being so direct and decisive. Some felt it was a pity for her. A small minority thought Su Qing was being pretentious and just playing hard to get with Young Master Meng. In short, there was a mix of all kinds of opinions.

Su Qing heard their words but paid them no mind. She returned to her dorm, tidied up a bit, and then went out for a big meal off-campus with her roommates.

These days, there were quite a few small restaurants around Beijing University. Su Qing and her friends went to one on the east side of campus. Although the restaurant wasn’t large, the food was delicious. The braised meat, in particular, was exceptionally good. Rumor had it that the owner’s ancestors had run an inn famous for its braised meat.

Su Qing and her friends entered the restaurant, ordered a few signature dishes, and added a large platter of assorted braised meats.

Chen Juan and the others were curious about why Su Qing had been on leave for over a month. Su Qing obviously couldn’t tell them the real reason, so she just shared some interesting stories from her travels that she could talk about. Soon, the girls were laughing and chatting happily.

"Tch, what a show-off. Just trying to act all special. A student who doesn’t prioritize her studies and is proud of taking leave all the time." Just as they were having a good time, a dissonant voice cut in.

It was obvious the comment was directed at Su Qing. Li Huan was having none of it. She looked angrily at the girl at the next table who had spoken. "What, people can’t take leave when they have something to do? The counselor didn’t even say anything, but you’re over here running your mouth. Who do you think you are?"

"What, she can do it but others can’t talk about it?" the girl retorted, looking at Li Huan without backing down.

"Does it have anything to do with you?" Chen Juan and the others chimed in angrily.

"I’ll say what I want. It’s my mouth. What I say is none of your business," the girl huffed.

Su Qing turned to look at the girl at the next table and smiled faintly. "If you have a problem with it, go to the counselor and get him to deny my leave. If you can manage that, I’ll even admire you. But if you can’t, and you’re just sitting here talking nonsense, then how are you any different from those village gossips who do nothing but talk about other people’s business all day?"

"What? You’re calling me a gossip? You..." The girl was instantly infuriated by Su Qing’s words and was about to stand up to confront her, but her tablemates held her back. "Alright, alright, we came out to have a nice meal. It’s not worth getting into a fight with someone. Just sit down."

Fortunately, the girl’s tablemates were more rational. They calmed her down and apologized to Su Qing, since they were the ones in the wrong to begin with.

Su Qing and her friends didn’t want to press the issue, so they ignored the girl. Su Qing did notice the jealous look the girl gave her, but she didn’t let it bother her.

After happily finishing their meal, the group returned to their dorm. Just as they reached the entrance of the building, a cheerful voice called out, "Su Qing!"
