Chapter 578: Chapter 578: Who Sent the Jadeite?
"You’re just in time. Have a popsicle." Li Huan smiled, took a popsicle from the foam box, and handed it to the girl.
The girl beamed and said, "Well, don’t mind if I do. It’s way too hot today. Your room is so much cooler—you’ve got a fan and popsicles, too."
After accepting the popsicle and thanking her, the girl handed a gift box to Su Qing. "Su Qing, this is for you. I went to the next building to find someone from my hometown, and the dorm manager there asked me to give it to you. I think someone must have delivered it to the wrong dorm."
Beijing University had a lot of students, and there were two female dormitories. Besides Su Qing’s building, there was another one behind it.
"Who’s it from?" Su Qing took the gift box and, out of habit, scanned it with her senses. There was nothing unusual inside.
"I don’t know," the girl said. "The dorm manager said it was delivered this morning when she wasn’t around. She only realized it was sent to the wrong place when she saw your name on it. She didn’t see who dropped it off."
"Thanks," Su Qing said with a smile.
"It was nothing, I was just passing by," the girl chuckled, raising the popsicle in her hand. "Besides, I got a free popsicle out of it."
After the girl left, Li Huan and the others stared curiously at the gift box in Su Qing’s hands. "Su Qing, who do you think sent it?"
Su Qing shook her head. "I’m not sure. The box just says it’s for me, but it doesn’t say who sent it."
Liu Juan said, "Well, if it has your name on it, it must be for you. See what’s inside."
Sun Xiaowen laughed. "Maybe it’s from a boy who likes you but is too shy to confess in person, so he sent a gift instead."
Su Qing laughed. "I doubt there are that many people left to confess. I’ve turned down everyone who’s confessed recently. Who would be stubborn enough to waste money sending me something?"
While Su Qing was at Beijing University, many of her secret admirers felt they finally had a chance. Several had mustered the courage to either send her confession letters or bravely confess in person. However, without exception, Su Qing flatly rejected everyone who approached her directly. As for the secret letters, she never responded to a single one, making her position perfectly clear.
Lately, the number of people confessing to her had dwindled to almost none.
Ye Qingqing nodded. "That’s true. You have no idea, people on campus are secretly saying you’re too hard to get."
Su Qing couldn’t help but smile at that.
Liu Juan chimed in, "Hurry up and see what’s in the box! Maybe someone else sent a gift and a confession letter."
All of them were extremely curious about the gift box Su Qing had received.
Su Qing smiled. She scanned the contents of the box again. There was definitely no danger. However—and she wasn’t sure if it was her imagination—she felt a faint, almost nonexistent wisp of Spiritual Energy inside the box.
’Huh!’
’There’s actually Spiritual Energy in this box! It’s minuscule, but she was certain it was Spiritual Energy.’
Now Su Qing was curious too. She immediately placed the box on the table and opened it.
"Woah!" Seeing the contents of the box, Chen Meizhen was the first to gasp, her eyes widening. "Is that jade? It’s beautiful!"
"It really is gorgeous!" the other girls exclaimed. "Oh my god, Su Qing, who was so extravagant? A piece of jade this beautiful must have been expensive."
Inside the gift box was a piece of watery-green jadeite. The translucency was excellent, almost reaching ice type quality, making it exceptionally beautiful and valuable.
Su Qing stared at the jadeite in the box. She had no idea if the jadeite cut from the raw stones she’d bought in Yun Province had contained any Spiritual Energy, since her Wood Ability’s superpower level wasn’t as high back then. But this piece of jadeite clearly contained some. Although it couldn’t compare to the Spiritual Energy in the mountains and forests, it was relatively dense compared to the environment in the city.
In modern towns and cities—perhaps because of the huge populations—Su Qing couldn’t sense even a trace of Spiritual Energy.
Curious about the jadeite and sensing no danger from it, Su Qing picked it up and examined it closely. She nodded and said, "This is a piece of jadeite. The translucency is good. It must have been expensive."
Li Huan’s relationship with Cheng Beize was growing deeper by the day, and thanks to his influence, she had learned a bit about jadeite and jade. She looked at the piece and nodded. "Qingqing is right. That’s ice type jadeite. If it were made into jewelry, it would be incredibly expensive."
"Ah, it’s that valuable? Who could have sent it?" Liu Juan looked at the jadeite curiously but didn’t dare touch it. It was so expensive, and she didn’t know much about it. It would be a disaster if she broke it.
Liu Juan glanced down at the gift box. But other than the jadeite, there was nothing else. The box really did only contain that single piece of jadeite.
"Huh? You’re kidding. They sent such an expensive gift and didn’t even sign their name?" Liu Juan said in surprise. "So you have no idea who the sender is?"
’Who would send such a valuable item out of the blue, without a name? Now if I want to return it, I don’t even know who to give it back to.’
"Maybe the person was too nervous and forgot to include a letter," Ye Qingqing suggested after a moment, surprised.
"Yeah, that’s possible," Chen Meizhen said. "But that’s way too careless. How could they forget something like that?"
"Su Qing, what are you going to do about this?" The girls all looked at her. They had known Su Qing long enough to have a good sense of her personality. She would never accept such an anonymous gift, no matter how valuable. The problem was, even if she wanted to return it, she had no idea where to send it. What was she supposed to do?
Su Qing looked at the jadeite in her hand, pursed her lips in thought, and then said, "I’ll take it to the police station."
"Huh?!" the girls exclaimed. "The police station?"
"That’s right." Su Qing nodded. "This counts as a valuable item. It’s like I found something valuable but can’t find the owner, so of course I should take it to the police."
Then, Su Qing smiled and said, "So, we’ll let the police officers handle the problem of finding the owner. We’ll just be good Samaritans who turn in lost property."
Hearing Su Qing’s words, the girls all burst out laughing and gave her a thumbs-up.
What Su Qing didn’t know was that at that very moment, in an apartment far away in Xiangcheng, someone was looking at a faintly glowing piece of jadeite and said softly, "Found you."
