Chapter 625: Someone Comes Looking

“Is that… an eagle?” Bai Minyun asked, looking curiously at the Golden Eagle in Su Qing’s arms. She had never seen a Golden Eagle before; the only similar bird of prey that came to mind was an eagle.

The Golden Eagle squinted at Bai Minyun and jabbed its hooked beak in her direction, the feathers on its neck bristling. ‘An eagle? *You’re* an eagle! Your whole family are eagles! I am a Golden Eagle, a Golden Eagle!’

‘If I weren’t injured right now, I’d definitely teach this two-legged beast a lesson she’ll never forget.’

Seeing the Golden Eagle was clearly getting ruffled, Su Qing couldn’t help but smile. She stroked its plumage and said to Bai Minyun, “This is a Golden Eagle. They’re much more formidable than regular eagles.”

“Oh, a Golden Eagle.” Bai Minyun had clearly felt the bird’s disdain when it bristled at her, and now she didn’t dare get any closer, terrified it might suddenly lash out with a claw. Gazing at its sharp talons, she swallowed nervously. “Um, Su Qing, you should be careful. This one seems to have a bad temper.”

“It’s fine. She’s actually quite docile,” Su Qing said as she held the Golden Eagle and began to examine it. The others around them just stared, stunned.

What did Su Qing just say? That this Golden Eagle was docile?

Good grief, they had all been terrified by the look in that Golden Eagle’s eyes. If it weren’t nestled so obediently in Su Qing’s arms right now, they’d all want to run for it. They were a bunch of people who could barely truss a chicken; they were no match for a raptor like that.

But it was obvious the Golden Eagle treated Su Qing differently. Just a moment ago, it seemed to have flown straight toward her.

Cao Zhengming worked up his courage and asked, “Su Qing, what’s going on with this Golden Eagle?”

“It looks like something injured its wing,” Su Qing said, frowning as she examined it. ‘That’s why its flight looked so strange earlier.’ The injury was at the base of one wing, and it didn’t look light.

The wound was large, so it hurt no matter how careful Su Qing was. The Golden Eagle let out a pitiful WHIMPER, snuggling into Su Qing’s arms as if trying to win her sympathy. This behavior was a novel sight for the others, and even Su Qing was surprised. She had never seen this Golden Eagle before, yet it acted as if it knew her well. ‘Have I forgotten something?’

‘Did I actually interact with this Golden Eagle at some point?’

Su Qing sat down with the Golden Eagle in her arms. She first cleaned its wound, then took out a small wooden box and gently applied the medicinal powder inside to the injury. At the same time, the green mist from her palm quietly seeped into the Golden Eagle’s body through the wound.

“COO.”

Perhaps because the green mist had eased the pain, the Golden Eagle let out a gentle cry, its gaze softening as it looked at Su Qing.

“Don’t worry, your wound will heal quickly. It won’t leave any permanent damage,” Su Qing said, completely won over by the eagle’s cute expression. She smiled and gently stroked the tuft of golden feathers on its head.

The Golden Eagle seemed to be enjoying her touch, even craning its neck to press its head more firmly into her palm.

Just then, Wu Wei cautiously sidled over and whispered to Su Qing, “Su Qing, can I… can I pet the Golden Eagle?”

After their initial fear, seeing how reliant and docile the Golden Eagle was with Su Qing, the younger people—especially the boys—were getting restless. After all, what boy doesn’t love such a majestic bird of prey?

Seeing Wu Wei trying to approach, the Golden Eagle vigilantly raised its head, its hooked beak aimed straight at him. Sunlight poured down from above, glinting silver-gray off its smooth, hook-like beak, and a cold light flashed in its dark brown eyes.

‘Does this two-legged beast think he can just pet a magnificent Golden Eagle like me whenever he pleases?’

Seeing the Golden Eagle’s reaction, Wu Wei gave a wimpy swallow and a nervous chuckle before taking two steps back. He didn’t dare say anything else, especially not about wanting to pet the eagle.

Su Qing smiled. “I don’t think she likes being petted by strangers.”

Wu Wei blinked, his eyes flicking from Su Qing’s hand on the Golden Eagle’s head to the bird itself, which was fawning all over her. He sighed internally. ‘Some people have all the luck!’

Just then, Su Qing sensed people heading their way. Through the vines, she could even hear what they were saying.

“The Golden Eagle went down somewhere around here. It must have landed nearby. Let’s search properly.”

“Yeah, probably right around here. Second Bro’s always been a crack shot. That Golden Eagle has to be injured; it couldn’t have flown far. Let’s keep looking.”

“Come on, let’s head that way. I saw the Golden Eagle go down in that direction.”

The three men were walking and talking as they moved through the mountain forest, heading straight for Su Qing’s group.

Su Qing frowned slightly when she heard this. ‘Are these people after this Golden Eagle?’ She glanced down at the eagle in her arms, thought for a moment, then turned to Cao Zhengming. “Dean Cao, I actually met this Golden Eagle when I was here last year. She followed me for several days back then, keeping me company while I gathered herbs in the mountains. I guess she saw me enter the mountains today and came to find me. I just don’t know how her wing got injured.”

Cao Zhengming nodded. “No wonder she came straight for you as soon as she arrived. And she does seem quite fond of you.”

Su Qing smiled, though in truth, she wasn’t entirely sure why the Golden Eagle was so affectionate toward her.

Cao Zhengming continued, “Well, since this Golden Eagle came looking for you and she’s injured, we can’t just abandon her. You should take her with you. Just make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone.”

“Don’t worry, she won’t,” Su Qing replied. Now that her Wood Ability superpower level was higher, she had a much greater affinity for animals. Calming one Golden Eagle was no problem at all.

By this point, everyone had finished eating and was getting ready to pack up and move on.

“Let’s go that way,” Su Qing said, pointing in the opposite direction of the approaching men. For now, she had no intention of running into them. “I have a feeling we’ll find something.”

“Alright, we’ll follow your lead,” Cao Zhengming agreed with a nod.

Soon, the group finished packing and set off in the direction Su Qing had indicated. Not long after they left, the three men arrived at the same spot.

“Hey, that’s weird. It should have come down right around here. Why can’t we find it?”

one of the men said, scratching his head. His voice was rough and tinged with annoyance.

“Don’t get worked up. Let’s search some more. That Golden Eagle is injured; it can’t have gone far. We’ll definitely find it.”

As the two men were talking, the third man emerged from the woods nearby, holding up a feather. “Big Bro, Second Bro, look! This has to be a feather from the Golden Eagle.”
