Chapter 641: Chapter 639: Did I Hear That Right?
"Mm." At the mention of this, Yarn’s expression darkened, and he looked troubled.
At that moment, Alton completely forgot about his own gloom from being rejected by Su Qing. His eyes went wide as he said to Yarn, "What are you still sitting here for? Call your father, quickly! Have him figure out a way to stop Angela from coming to Beijing. My God, you’ve already hidden all the way out here, and the Walker family still won’t give up?"
Yarn frowned. "If my father wrote to tell me Angela was coming to Beijing, it means he couldn’t stop it. After what happened to Angela on the cruise ship, the Walker family holds me responsible and insists that she marry me. But my family isn’t happy with this marriage. As you know, our families cooperate on a lot of business, and both sides have to consider their interests. Me coming to Beijing to avoid Angela is my stance, and her coming to Beijing to find me is hers. Basically, this is a contest of wills to see which of us gives in first."
"Hmph." Alton pursed his lips. "So basically, the families can’t afford to have a falling out, which means all the pressure is on you. If you can hold out, you won’t have to marry Angela. But if you can’t handle her relentless pestering, then you’ll just have to marry her, won’t you?"
After he finished, Alton added indignantly, "Angela brought that on herself. Why are they pushing the blame onto you? It’s shameless."
Although the Walker family had done their utmost to cover up what Angela went through on the cruise ship and minimize the fallout, families like Alton’s still knew the inside story. So naturally, Alton felt it was an injustice to his friend.
Yarn pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
Alton blinked a few times as he looked at Yarn. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He asked, "Yarn, you have a girl you like, don’t you?"
Before Yarn could even answer, Alton continued, "Back in that village, you mistook Su Qing for someone else. Don’t tell me Su Qing looks like the girl you like?"
Then, Alton’s eyes flew wide open. "My God, brother, don’t tell me we’ve fallen for the same girl?"
Yarn said helplessly, "Alton, what are you talking about? I just mistook her for someone else. Su Qing isn’t the one I’m looking for."
"So that means you really do have a girl you like?" Alton reacted as if he’d discovered a new world, punching Yarn on the shoulder. "Aha, brother! The moment I fell for a girl, I told you, but you’ve been hiding this from me! Quick, tell me. What does she look like? What’s her name? Where is she from?"
Yarn sighed and said dejectedly, "It’s not that I was intentionally hiding it from you. To be honest, I only know her name and what she looks like. As for her background or anything else, I’m completely in the dark."
"Ah? Then how are you supposed to find her?" Alton was dumbfounded.
"That’s why I’m pretty envious of you," Yarn said. "Even though Su Qing hasn’t accepted your pursuit, at least you know things about her, you know where to find her, and your father has even approved. There’s still hope for you. But the girl I like... I have no idea where to find her. Plus, she’s already rejected me. I don’t even have any bargaining chips to use with my father."
Alton was speechless. He felt like his brother had just twisted the knife, but it seemed he’d also managed to subtly twist it right back.
’Come to think of it, my brother seems to have it worse than I do!’
"So, what are you going to do when Angela arrives?" Alton asked.
"What else can I do?" Yarn felt he had been too indecisive in the past. He hadn’t been firm enough in rejecting Angela, which led to this whole mess. But no matter what, he wasn’t going to compromise on his own marriage. He decided to take a harder stance. "Angela is free to come to Beijing. Besides, she’s bringing bodyguards this time. She’s just here as a tourist. It has nothing to do with me."
"Hey, that’s more like it," Alton said. "I told you a long time ago: you need to be decisive and make Angela give up completely. It’s better for both of you. That way you can avoid getting entangled in the future, which would only cause more pain."
Yarn pressed his lips together and nodded, but then the image of that beautiful figure flashed through his mind again, and he let out a deep sigh.
「Three days later.」
At the Beijing train station, Angela emerged with four bodyguards. She looked all around, stamped her foot in frustration, and then asked the head of her security detail, "Are you sure Yarn knows I’ve arrived?"
"Miss Angela," the head of security hurriedly stepped forward and said in a low voice, "the Hall family definitely sent a letter to Young Master Yarn. So, he most certainly knows you’ve come to Beijing."
Angela scanned the area again. Confirming that there was truly no sign of Yarn, she felt a pang of indignation. "He really doesn’t want to see me that badly!"
The four bodyguards behind Angela exchanged a look, but none of them dared to speak. ’Truth be told, Miss Angela’s temper has gotten even worse ever since that business with A Tai. They all knew what was going on, but they’d never dare discuss it. If they did, they wouldn’t even know what hit them. It was best to just play dumb.’
After waiting a while longer and seeing that Yarn was really not going to show up, Angela huffily ordered the head of security to get the car. They would head back to the residence their family kept in Beijing for now.
Of course, Angela knew where Yarn was living. However, before coming to Beijing, her family’s elders had warned her to take things slow this time. She was told to absolutely not get into an argument with Yarn like she did on the cruise ship. Therefore, Angela planned to go back to her residence and regroup before heading to Yarn’s place.
"Miss Angela," a nearby bodyguard hurriedly reminded her, "your mother said that after you arrived in Beijing, you shouldn’t forget to write her a letter or give her a call."
"I know," Angela said impatiently. "Have someone look into Yarn’s recent activities. Also, I seem to recall Alton is in Beijing too, isn’t he? If he’s here, he’s probably with Yarn."
"Yes, Miss Angela."
As the group talked amongst themselves, they left the train station. However, standing nearby, Song Yufang and Zhao Xiaohui exchanged a look.
The new semester had already started, but Song Yufang was returning to school a few days late because of some family matters. She arrived in Beijing today, and since it was the weekend, Zhao Xiaohui came to pick her up. They never expected to overhear a foreign stranger mention the names Yarn and Alton.
"I didn’t mishear that, did I?" Zhao Xiaohui’s English wasn’t as good as Song Yufang’s, so she was afraid she had misunderstood. "Did she say Mr. Yarn and Mr. Alton?"
Song Yufang shook her head. "No, you heard correctly. That woman just now definitely mentioned Mr. Yarn and Mr. Alton."
