Without waiting for Flora Bloom to react, he swept her up into his arms and carried her back to the room.

Back in the room, he’d intended to toss the woman who was still playfully toying with him onto the bed, but he found Polly wide awake, sitting at the head of the bed and smiling at them.

Seeing his daughter’s innocent smile, the fire in his heart inexplicably died down by more than half. He shot Flora Bloom a glare. "I’ll let you off the hook for today!"

He placed Flora Bloom down next to Polly, then lay down on the bed, wrapping an arm around the mother-daughter pair.

He patted Polly, coaxing her to sleep, while watching the woman beside her who was laughing brazenly.

"Polly is over a year old now..."

Flora Bloom nodded. "She is..."

"You’re with Polly every day. Mom and Dad have been complaining..."

Flora Bloom’s smile widened. "So?"

"Let’s just sleep."

Flora Bloom and Lex Cross lay on either side of Polly, who was the quickest of the three to fall asleep. Lex only closed his eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep after Polly was soundly asleep.

He was a light sleeper and could go without it if he had to. Watching the two women before him filled his heart with a sense of fulfillment and security—a happiness he couldn’t put into words.

But being the only one awake was too lonely. Closing his eyes, even for just a few short hours, brought him a sense of warmth.

In all his years on Earth, he had never slept as soundly as he did during his time at Morhaven Base.

Nor had he ever acted so childishly over certain things.

When Flora Bloom woke up, it was already the next morning. Jade had left her a note in the living room, telling her that she had taken Polly to play in the forest.

Vert, Bai, and Polly’s contracted Divine Beast, the Nightmare Beast, had gone with them, so Flora Bloom wasn’t worried.

For the past year, she had been relentlessly absorbing energy from Zombie Crystal Cores. Now, she was just a hair’s breadth away from breaking through to a High-level Superpower.

Whenever Lex Cross went out to clear zombies, he gave her all the Crystal Cores he collected. She still couldn’t freely harvest the Energy Gemstones in her space, so her demand for Crystal Cores remained immense. However, as her own energy reserves for the High-level stage became more abundant, the Energy Gemstone vein within her Spatial Mountain Range grew faster as well.

Over the past year, the volume of Energy Gemstones in the mountain range had already reached over fifty cubic meters.

At first, Flora Bloom had considered taking some of the Energy Gemstones to absorb herself. But she discovered that the growth rate of the gemstone vein was directly related to its total volume.

For instance, when the Energy Gemstone vein was one cubic meter, its growth rate was two; at two cubic meters, it was four; at three cubic meters, six, and so on.

The growth rate was twice the volume in cubic meters.

At fifty cubic meters, the growth rate reached one hundred. After Flora Bloom took ten cubic meters, the rate dropped to eighty.

It then took a full month for the vein’s growth rate to return to one hundred.

This made Flora Bloom cry out that it wasn’t worth it. It seemed she would have to wait until the vein grew to over a thousand cubic meters before she could harvest from it as needed without dragging down its growth rate.

Flora Bloom continued to train the Water Ability Users every day, while Lex Cross and the special forces—everyone except Nolan Jennings, The Crown Prince, and Li Mao—planned how to assassinate the zombie leaders in the settlement, namely the three High-level zombies.

With Lex Cross’s power having now recovered to the Starry Sky-level, killing three High-level zombies would be as easy as flipping his hand. But if a settlement suddenly lost its three High-level zombie leaders, the thousands of Middle-level zombies left behind would have no one to control them.

Those thousands of Middle-level zombies would then each lead other low-level zombies to fight for their own territory. This would not only easily trigger chaos and rioting among the zombie population but also attract the attention of High-level zombies from the other major zombie settlements.

Stirring up the hornet’s nest like that could prematurely trigger a full-scale war between humans and zombies.

It was a risk they couldn’t afford to take lightly.

Initially, Flora Bloom had recommended Isla Preston to help Lex Cross and his men. The plan was to eliminate the three High-level zombies and have Isla Preston take their place.

The plan had been viable, but Isla Preston’s state as a High-level zombie had recently become unstable. Flora Bloom had recalled her to her space, and only then did she detect strange movements from the fetus in her womb. It seemed Isla was about to give birth.

However, inside Flora Bloom’s space, black veins began to bulge all over Isla Preston’s body, and her belly swelled like a hot air balloon on the verge of bursting.

Zombies feel no pain, but when a High-level zombie is injured, it loses Death Energy. A zombie’s Death Energy is the equivalent of a human’s superpower energy.

Just as human superpower users lose energy during childbirth, leading to postpartum weakness, zombies also lose Death Energy when giving birth. The difference was that the mother’s Death Energy would be absorbed by the fetus in her womb.
