Chapter 410: Chapter 364: How Could He Not Know What His Nephew Likes?
Idelos was getting annoyed by his pacing.
"Would you just sit down."
Deviant’s mind was completely on Yuanbao. Still agitated, he said, "Tell me, with a face like that, how could she possibly be a virtual female?"
Idelos’s mind was also on "Yuanbao," so he didn’t really feel like dealing with Deviant. But hearing his uncle’s question, he glanced up at him. "Why couldn’t she be? It’s not like this is some incredibly rare technology. Other big companies can pull it off."
Deviant said, "They can, but don’t you think Yuanbao is completely different from other virtual females?"
Though he said he didn’t believe Yuanbao was a virtual female, he was really just marveling at Gu Demiao Ning’s skill and aesthetic sense. Deep down, he was even more certain she wasn’t a *real* female, leaning toward the theory that this was all a marketing ploy by Gu Demiao Ning and Gu Li.
After so many years in the film and television industry, he’d seen his share of tricks like this.
"I don’t," Idelos said.
Deviant knew his nephew had never liked virtual females, so he didn’t press the issue. He admired the video by himself for a while longer. Once satisfied, he placed a call to that fox, Gu Li.
The call connected, but was hung up less than two seconds later.
Deviant’s brow furrowed, and he tried again.
He was hung up on again.
He tried a third time, but the call wouldn’t go through.
"I knew that guy would play hard to get." Deviant’s excitement faded after being hung up on repeatedly, and his usual rationality began to return.
With Yuanbao’s new video being such a hit, he had fully expected Gu Demiao Ning and that fox to get arrogant or try to negotiate new terms.
Calling that red fox was his way of testing their attitude.
"Has Gu Demiao Ning sent you any messages?" Deviant, having calmed down, sat beside Idelos. "That one... she hasn’t sent me any private messages either. I bet she and that fox planned this, and they’re waiting for us to come crawling to them."
Idelos asked, "She hasn’t messaged you?"
"Nope," Deviant said. "She used to reply to my messages, but she hasn’t responded at all for the last few days."
Deviant glanced over and saw Idelos on the PawsClaw interface. "You should look for Gu Demiao Ning. Try to sound out her attitude. If they think they can hold us for ransom just because they filmed one good minute-long video, I’ll have to teach them a lesson."
With spring approaching, he had a mountain of work to deal with. On top of that, he was agitated by issues with Zone 5 and his own nephew trying to kick him out of the company. Now that he saw such a bright future with this Yuanbao business, he just wanted to see some results, and fast.
He believed Idelos wasn’t joking about kicking him out of the company. ’The little fox cub has grown up and has ideas of his own now.’
He wouldn’t fight his nephew right now—he simply didn’t have the time or energy to spare. Once he dealt with the Zone 5 situation, then he would deal with his nephew.
Fortunately, he was the one who had signed the contract with Yuanbao. Even if he left the company, he could take Yuanbao’s contract with him.
Unless Idelos was willing to completely give up on collaborating with Yuanbao.
Given Yuanbao’s popularity, every major company would be fighting over her. He wasn’t worried on that front.
It wasn’t as if Idelos’s company was his only venture. He also had shares in Feixing Shengyang and had started several smaller companies of his own. He understood the principle of not putting all one’s eggs in one basket; it was just that his biggest egg happened to be in Idelos’s company.
’Of all the times that little fox cub could have chosen to kick him out, he just had to do it now.’ The thought really pissed him off.
He had offered to hand over full control of the company to Idelos before, but his nephew had always seemed uninterested. This new move showed he was finally interested in managing it. While Deviant was furious, he also felt a sense of gratification.
Deviant picked up a photo of Yuanbao from the coffee table and tapped it against his palm. He was starting to get a read on Idelos’s intentions.
Gu Demiao Ning and that red fox’s intentions were still unclear, but he had raised his nephew, after all. He knew him very well.
Given Idelos’s previous attitude toward virtual females, he might have been worried. But now...
"Beautiful, isn’t she?" He nudged his nephew with his elbow.
’They were uncle and nephew, after all.’ How could he not know what type his nephew liked?
Even if he claimed to hate virtual females, when he found one that was just his type, he’d still have to fold.
"Aren’t you leaving?" Idelos snatched the photo away.
Deviant said, displeased, "What, now that you’ve kicked me out of the company, you won’t even let me hang around?"
He picked up another picture of Yuanbao from the table, gave it a kiss, and said, "Like her? The moment I walk out of this company’s doors, you can forget about ever working with my adorable little Yuanbao again."
Idelos frowned at the gesture, snatched the photo from him, and gathered up the rest of the pictures on the coffee table. He then stood up. "Go home and get some sleep. Come back to the company to talk to me about her when your head is clear."
"..."
Idelos pushed open the balcony doors, and a damp, cold wind rushed to meet him.
Winter in the Second District wasn’t terribly cold, and it rarely snowed. A light dusting from two days ago had already melted, leaving only a damp chill in the air.
The cold wind helped clear Idelos’s muddled head, which was foggy from two sleepless nights. He took a deep breath of the frigid air, leaned against the railing, and opened his terminal to play Yuanbao’s new video again.
After the one-minute video finished, his gaze lingered on the frame where Yuanbao’s face was revealed.
[This is the proposal draft for my next video (file)]
A message from Gu Demiao Ning popped up on the screen.
Idelos opened the chat window. He stared at her message for a long time before, after careful consideration, sending his personal contact code.
[I don’t log into PawsClaw very often. Lately, I’ve been busy with some matters regarding the company transition, so I might not reply to your messages in time. If you have anything you want to tell me, you can call my comms directly.]
After sending the message, Idelos waited for Gu Demiao Ning’s... or rather, Yuanbao’s, reply.
About thirty seconds later, Gu Demiao Ning replied: [Okay]
A slight smile touched Idelos’s lips. As he looked at Gu Demiao Ning’s avatar and name in the chat window, something occurred to him. He scrolled through his contact list and found the entry for the one named Gu Li.
After staring at Gu Li’s name for a moment, Idelos returned to his chat with Gu Demiao Ning and edited her contact name to: Gu Ning
*
’Big shots are so busy.’
Gu Ning read the message from Idelos in the chat window and sighed to herself. She saved his contact code, then clicked on her new video.
After a hectic day, she finally had a moment to watch her own video.
The moment it loaded, the screen was assaulted by a barrage of bullet comments.
However, compared to the dazzling, special-effect-laden comments on her previous videos, this one looked much cleaner.
Right now, snowflake effects were drifting across the screen, along with the title of her video: This Is Our Winter.
It wasn’t until later in the video that the comments turned into a cacophony of shouts, accompanied by other flashy special effects.
Gu Ning saw almost no one spamming the comments with poop emojis.
Just from the comments, it was clear that the Beastman audience loved this video even more than her previous ones.
Gu Ning nodded in satisfaction.
She had put so much effort into this video; it would have been a crime against all her hard work if the feedback wasn’t this good.
