Chapter 420: Chapter 372: What Does It Feel Like to Like Her?
’This Doctor Lanuo must stay up late a lot, too,’ she guessed. ’He probably doesn’t get enough sleep.’ Compared to Alex’s strong, powerful build, he was much more slender. He seemed like the type who would skip meals for work, or maybe just wasn’t very interested in food.
"Relax. Open a little wider." Lanuo sensed Gu Ning’s tension. The hand holding her chin moved up slightly, and he gently squeezed her cheek instead. "I need to get in a bit deeper to check your tonsils."
Gu Ning tilted her head back slightly, trying her best to open her mouth wider. The medical examination light above her was uncomfortably bright, forcing her to close her eyes.
"You’re recovering very well," she heard Lanuo say beside her ear. Then, she felt another shadow fall over her and caught Alex’s scent.
The two Beastmen leaned close to her face, each using a cotton swab to collect a bit of her saliva.
They needed more samples.
"Your heat scent is very strong," Lanuo explained to Gu Ning. "I’ll need to create a custom Inhibitor for you to suppress it."
Gu Ning understood now why they needed to examine her. She nodded, trying her best to cooperate.
After collecting the saliva, Lanuo performed a simple palpation exam. His gaze swept over a certain part of her body before he looked at Alex beside him. "You take it from here."
With that, he stepped aside, already writing in her chart.
SWISH— Alex pulled the curtain shut.
Gu Ning turned her head to look at him. "Is there something else?"
"We need to collect other fluid samples."
Alex said, pulling on a pair of medical gloves.
Gu Ning lay back down. A second later, a thought struck her and she whipped her head around to look at Alex again.
’Collect what?’
Alex paused in the middle of putting on the gloves. He touched Gu Ning’s face with his gloved hand. "What do you think?"
Gu Ning: "Wh-what?"
Alex: "Does this feel uncomfortable? If it does, I’ll take them off."
Gu Ning: "...Either is... fine."
Alex brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. Just as he was about to take off the gloves, Lanuo’s voice came from behind the curtain. "Keep the gloves on for the collection. Don’t contaminate the sample with your scent."
Then, as if he was still worried, he added, "And only use your hand."
Alex finished pulling the medical gloves on, then leaned down and kissed Gu Ning’s cheek. "Just bear with me. This will be quick."
"..."
"..."
It was, in fact, very quick.
Gu Ning squeezed her eyes shut, biting her lip to stifle the sounds threatening to escape her throat.
"Don’t be tense. Relax a little."
Alex kissed her reassuringly.
But in this environment, Gu Ning couldn’t relax at all.
The examination light overhead, the slightly-too-firm medical bed beneath her, the faint clinking of medical instruments, and the smell of disinfectant lingering in the air—it all reminded her that she was in a clinic.
And then there was the undeniable heat of Alex’s body.
The thin layer of the medical gloves did nothing to block his warmth.
After she tensed and relaxed three or four times, Alex finally said, "All done."
Gu Ning let out a long sigh of relief and weakly opened her eyes.
Alex switched off the examination light, sat on the edge of the bed, and pulled her into his arms to comfort her.
"I needed to collect your perspiration, so I had to... do it a few times," Alex whispered, kissing her ear.
Gu Ning caught her breath. "Is it over now?"
Alex held her without a word, his breath ghosting across her face. The muscles in his arms were as tight as stone.
When he didn’t respond, Gu Ning looked up at him. "Al—"
Alex’s face was beaded with sweat, and he wore that familiar expression—the one that made him look like he was about to devour her.
Seeing her gaze, Alex closed his eyes and whispered, "Just let me hold you for a moment, okay?"
His brow was slightly furrowed, his expression a mask of patience and restraint.
Seeing him like that, Gu Ning paused, then grabbed his wrist and pushed him away with decisive force.
Alex fought the urge to tighten his arms and hold her closer. In the end, he suppressed it with an inward sigh. He was about to stand up and leave to cool down when Gu Ning wrapped her arms around his neck.
"..." Alex’s body went rigid, and his breath hitched.
Gu Ning knelt on the examination bed, cradling his head and gently patting and stroking it.
The fire raging inside Alex felt as if it had been doused with cold water. With a TSSSS—, it was extinguished.
"Is this a little better?"
Gu Ning stroked down from the back of the alpha wolf’s head to his stiff, tense spine, as if she were soothing a large, agitated dog by smoothing its fur.
